1. Introduction
The Bancroft area is known as Canada's Mineral Capital. The claim area of this report lies in the Grenville Structural Province of the Canadian Shield and is adjacent to one of Bancroft's best mineral sites, the Bear Lake Diggings. The property was staked for its potential as an economical mineral deposit.
The report covers the geological mapping and prospecting completed in the 1998 season. Whole rock analysis, mineral identification, fire assay, petrographic analysis and thin section work was performed on representative samples on the property.
2. Location and Access
The mining claim SO1077067 is located in the following(see Figures land 2):
Area - Southeastern Haliburton CountyTownship - MonmouthMining Division - Southern OntarioClaim map sheet - Monmouth Township # G-1298NTS map sheet - Gooderham 31 D/16Latitude and longitude - 44058'; 78 0 18'
3. Access to Property
Starting in the town of Bancroft, Ontario, drive south on Highway 28 until you reach the junction of Highway 121. Continue west on Highway 121 to the town of Tory Hill. Take Highway 503 south towards Gooderham. Turn north on the Bear Lake Road, continue for 4.2 kms and turn right onto Madill Road. Continue on Madill Road until it becomes single lane. Watch for signs for the Bear Lake Diggings collecting site and park on the south side of the roadway. Continue by foot east on the trail for approximately 800m, passing two stream crossings. Approximately 150m along the trail, past the second stream you will cross the northern east-west boundary of the claim, 38m east of the #4 claim post.
4. Description of Property
The property has moderate forest cover of mature maples and evergreens. Very large boulders blanket most of the property, making outcrop difficult to spot. A northeast - southwest trending ridge with a relief of approximately 50m bisects the claim. To the south of this system, a pond and low lying area makes traversing difficult but there are clear areas to gain access. A second northwest - southeast ravine crosscuts this area and provides excellent outcrop exposure, but caution is recommended as the relief is quite drastic. The intersection of these two structural features is located in the southern central portion of the claim, in the area of the pond.

5. Regional Geology
The regional geology of the area consists of early to mid Proterozoic sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, situated in the southeastern border zone of the Glamorgan Gneiss Complex of the Central metasedimentary Belt of the Grenville Structural Province of the Canadian Shield. The area lies within a northeast - southwest trending fault zone.
The claim area is situated in the southeast border zone of the Glamorgan Gneiss Complex, composed of amphibolite, granite, granitic gneiss and minor amounts of marble.
Locally, alkalic plutonic rocks such as nepheline syenite and mafic, ultramafic and carbonatitic rocks are associated with the area. Calcite filled veins cut horneblende - syenite gneiss. Pegmatitic lenses and bands of marble are present. This area is predominantly underlain by quartz-feldspar gneiss and amphibolite.
6. Work Done
Prospecting was carried out throughout the property. Once landmarks were located, access to the various areas on the property was achieved with minor difficulty. Spring and summer in this area of Ontario can be notorious for black flies and mosquitoes. The late summer and fall of 1998 was excellent for accessibility and the insects were minimal. Take all the necessary precautions during the hunting season in this area.
Hand samples were taken from surface outcrops and sent to Lakefield Research laboratories for assessment. ( see pull-out map) Six samples had petrographic analysis, four had XRD, fifteen had XRF and one fire assay was completed.
Four of the XRF samples were apatite crystals discovered on adjacent claims. The minerals were selected to determine, if any, chemical variations present, are responsible for the difference in colour of the local apatite crystals. The purpose of this is to better understand the nature of the gem quality apatite that is so indicative of this area. The analysis results are located in Appendix I.

The whole rock analysis of the apatite crystals indicated a few chemical trends. The dark green colour, which is more valuable as a gem stone had a 400: l ratio of P2Os to Fe^Os. The lightest green apatite had a 200: l ratio. The lightest green colour had twice the amount of SiO2 and A12O3, with slightly elevated MgO. The iron staining in the B crystal was due to three times the Fe2O3 in the D sample. The darkest green sample, D, has the highest percentage of phosphorous.
8. Recommendations
The potential for gold mineralization is indicated in the quartz veins. Further study should originate in the western boundary of the property. An indepth study of the quartz veins should be done. The gravel in the N-W running ravine should be examined for potential placer deposits.
Granite pegmatites can host a number of minerals formed in successive waves of mineralization producing zones of crystallized specimens in the pegmatite pockets. Further detailed mapping is recommended to locate larger calcite veins and pegmatite bodies. The potential for gem quality minerals is very good.
A detailed study of the mineralogy of the host rocks would help as a guide to prospecting not only on this claim but on the numerous claims in the area. Understanding the host rock chemistry can indicate the mineral potential in the numerous pegmatites and veins throughout the property.

Massive crystals, green pleochroic. Characterized asferro-actinolite based on WRA composition and opticalfeatures.Anhedral grains, occur as fracture-controlled.Disseminated subhedral crystals.Rounded inclusions in amphibole.Euhedral crystals occurring as inclusions in amphibole.Anhedral grains rimmed by iron oxyhydroxides.Serichized.Disseminated crystals.Fine alteration on microcline.
Staining along fractures.Disseminated crystals. Rounded.
MDC-020B was a pan of massive amphibole-bearing rock. Based on whole rock analysis, the amphibole is classified as ferro-actinolite. The amphibole is weakly replaced by calcite along fracture planes. Trace amounts of disseminated inclusions of sphene, apatite, microcline, quartz, zircon and pyrite were noted. Microcline grains were altered to sericite. Fine-grained iron oxyhydroxides were present along fractures.

MDC-020C was a fragment of massive sparry calcite. Whole rock analysis indicated the presence of trace magnesium in the structure. The calcite contained trace inclusions of pyrite. Iron oxyhydroxides were present as staining on fracture planes and as alteration rims on pyrite.

MDC-030A is fine-to medium-grained, hypidiomorphic and inequigranular monzonite. It was composed of granular potassium and plagioclase feldspar, with minor amounts of quartz. Trace amounts of euhedral zircon, sphene, Fe-oxyhydroxides and pyrite were also noted. The rock exhibited minor iron staining along fracture planes and between mineral grains.

Disseminated oystals. Rimmed by Fe-oxyhydroxides.Rimming on pyrite and staining along fractures.
MDC-040 was a fine- to medium-grained, hypidiomorphic, and inequigranular syenite. It was composed of medium-grained potassium and plagioclase feldspar, with minor amounts of quartz, apatite, and Fe-oxyhydroxides, and trace amounts of zircon, biotite, chlorite and sphene. The sample was somewhat coarser-grained than MDC-030A, with feldspar crystals greater than 2500 nm in diameter. MDC-040 contained a higher proportion of ferro-magnesian minerals (predominantly amphibole) than MDC-30A and MDC-050A1.

MDC-050A1 was a fine- to medium-grained, hypidiomorphic, and inequigranular graaute. It was composed of a medium-grained potassium and plagioclase feldspars, and quartz. Trace amounts of amphibole, apatite, sericite, sphene, pyrite and Fe-oxyhydroxides were also present. The proportion of quartz was higher in this sample than in MDC-030A and MDC-040.
