Horizon’s Spring Auction is Here!
Please plan to join us for FIASCO! Saturday, March 22 @ 7:00 PM - Doors open at 6:30 PM
PASTA and FIASCO make it fun to raise funds that support our church. Actually, they are really just a great excuse for a party twice a year!
Our annual spring fundraising auction is called FIASCO while PASTA is usually held in the fall
and features a delicious Italian dinner (thus the name!) Members donate items, events,
services, and classes that are then put into a silent auction. A few good examples include use
of members’ vacation homes, a private dinner in a home or special restaurant, a bridge
party, hand-made jewelry and even Spanish lessons. There is always entertainment,
refreshments and lots of fun!
FIASCO IS THIS SATURDAY - FEATURING "A TASTE OF HERB"! Live Entertainment – Spectacular Auction – Great Food
The Taste of Herb is the premier Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass tribute band in the North
Texas - Metroplex area. It is dedicated to reviving the sounds and feel of the once popular
style of music. In the 1960s, the music of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass could be heard
on the top radio shows of the time, as well as television and the big screen. The music of
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass is quirky, retro, hip, sometimes cheesy, but always groovy!

FUTURE SUNDAYS
Horizon encourages you to attend weekly worship here within your community, Sundays 10:30AM * Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church, 1641 W. Hebron Pkwy, Carrollton TX 75010
March 30, Planting Horizon - Lyssa Jenkens, Intern Minister Church start-ups have the same slim odds of survival as any non-profit or small business, maybe even less among UU churches. Yet, Horizon has prospered in the 27 years since it was planted to serve the northwestern suburbs of Dallas. What conditions conspired to make this so? And, what is the yield of this success?

Come Explore Horizon with Us!
For those who are visiting and want to know more about Unitarian Universalism and
Horizon, or for members who want to learn more about how Horizon works, a series of
classes may answer your questions.
On Sunday, March 23rd, Reverend Dennis Hamilton will lead “New to UU” from 12:30-2:30.
Light lunch served. Learn about the history and structure and uniqueness of Unitarian
Universalism. Hear about our Seven Principles that we strive to understand and integrate
into our lives. This class will be in the Fellowship Hall after the Sunday service.
On Saturday, March 29th “How Do U Fit into UU?” will (PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A NEW DATE),
be presented by members of the Membership Committee and other Horizon leaders. It
starts at 10:30 AM and runs until 2:30 PM. Hear about the history of Horizon, how our
members participate in the life of the church and what activities and offerings we have.
We’ll also cover the expectations of membership. A light lunch will be served during class,
which will be held in the church library.
On Sunday, March 30th, Reverend Hamilton will conduct a New Member Sunday
where anyone wanting to join Horizon may do so at that time. Contact him at
[email protected] if you would like to join.
You can enroll in the Exploring Horizon classes by sending an email to membership
@horizonuu.org. Or, look for a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center in the church lobby.
Please also feel free to send questions to the email address above—we sincerely hope you
will join us!

Horizon helpers in action!
Last Sunday Horizon children from Kindergarten-8th grade spent their class period doing a social action project. They put together twenty-five Easter baskets for abused and neglected children served by the Community Partners of Dallas. A big thank you goes out to the parents who helped and to the Horizon Social Justice Committee for purchasing the supplies.
Thank you for supporting the Coming of Age
Carwash! The Coming of Age class earned more than expected last Sunday even though the cold temperatures and the high winds kept them from completing their car wash. Thank you so much for supporting their efforts and helping them earn the money towards their heritage trip to Boston this summer.

A Long Strange Trip: The Complete Video Guide
to Unitarian Universalist History with Lauren Daniell and guests
Part III – The Birth of Unitarianism (1620 - 1860)
Becoming fully Unitarian, new frontiers forded by the Transcedentalists, and developing into a force for social justice
Two showings:
Sunday, April 13th 12:30-2:00 pm OR Wednesday, April 16th 7:30-9:00pm Horizon Library Fellowship Hall
This segment is about the development of Unitarianism in America from 1620 through the death of Theodore Parker in 1860. The early fractures between religious liberals and Congregationalists in Colonial America will be discussed. It covers the effect of Joseph Priestley’s immigration and William Ellery Channing’s role in the formation of the American Unitarian movement. It tells the story of the final split between the Unitarians and the Trinitarian Congregationalists in the 1820s from both a theological and a legal perspective. This segment will cover the Arian/Socinian fracture and the Transcendentalism of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, and Theodore Parker. It will talk about the key role Fuller played in moving Transcendentalism out from a niche movement in Concord to becoming the driving force behind Unitarianism. Finally, the role Theodore Parker played in advancing Unitarianism beyond its traditional Bible-centered roots is covered, and highlights his role in some of the great social justice issues of the day, especially the abolition of slavery.
The same segment will have two showings to accommodate members’ schedules. Close-captioned. Reserve childcare at childcare@ horizonuu.org
