The life of ASC’s keynote speaker, Liz Murray, is a stunning example of the importance of dream-ing big. The child of drug-addicted parents who routinely ate from dumpsters and sought refuge at all-night subway stations, Murray was home-less at age 15 and fending for her life. Deter-mined not to be defined by her circumstances, she recognized education as the key to a whole new way of living. While homeless, she earned her high school diploma in just two years and won a scholarship to Harvard University that would turn her bleak circumstances into a future filled with limitless possibility. With sincerity, matu-rity, and graciousness, Murray takes audiences along on her personal journey from street smarts to classroom triumphs, instantly becoming an inspiration. The subject of Lifetime Television’s Emmy-nominated original film, Homeless to Harvard, Murray completed her degree at Harvard in 2009. Her memoir, Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival, and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard, was a huge success, making the New York Times’ best-seller list within a week of its release, and has been published in twelve countries and in eight languages.

The mission of Rainbow Days is to help children and youth in adversity build coping skills and resilience to create positive futures.

Rainbow Days works with children and youth in the Dallas area who are experiencing adversity, including poverty, homelessness, family violence, parental addiction or incarceration, academic failure and many other difficult challenges.

Through Rainbow Days’ evidence-based Curriculum Based Support Group Program (CBSG®), trained staff serve children and youth, ages 4-17, in small groups at local partnering schools and shelters.  Children and youth learn how to resist negative peer pressure, cope with difficult prob-lems, set goals for the future and commit to staying in school and being drug free.  Rainbow Days also provides Classroom Presentations, Summer Day Camps, Family Outings and tangible items such as new school supplies and uniforms to meet the physical, social, and emotional needs of children and youth.

For over 36 years, Rainbow Days has been making a lasting, positive impact in the lives of over 11,000 at-risk children and youth in our community each year.
