Gutsy Performace Lifts Purple Eagles Over Colgate• The Purple Eagles picked up their second win of the season against the defending Patriot League champion and unanimous preseason favorite Colgate Raiders, 93-82, on December 8.• The Purple Eagles erased a 16-point fi rst half defi cit, watched Colgate rallied in the fi nal minute to send the game into overtime, and then powered past the Raiders in overtime in a suspenseful contest. • The Purple Eagles showed great poise in overtime as they dominated the extra period, outscoring the Raiders 13-2.

You Can Always Come Home? • The Purple Eagles played only two home games - Bryant on November 18 and Colgate on December 8 - in the fi rst two months of the season. • Niagara’s two home games in November and December are the program’s fewest home games since the 1993-94 season. NU did not have a single home game in either November or December and played their fi rst home game on January 6, 1994.

Going OT• Niagara won its second game of the season by defeating Colgate, 93-82, in overtime. • The win was Niagara’s fi rst victory in a single overtime period since January 31, 2013 when NU topped Iona, 93-90, in the National MAAC Game of the Week on ESPN3. • The Purple Eagles had dropped their last seven games that were decided in one overtime period.

Challenging Slate For Young Purple Eagles• NU faced a challenging non-conference schedule with matchups at Syracuse, Rutgers, Buf-falo and St. Bonaventure.• Niagara had the highest ranked SOS (strength of schedule), 142, amongst MAAC members during the non-conference season.• The Purple Eagles start their 20-game MAAC schedule in January and the pursuit for a MAAC Tournament title begins on March 10 at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

Academic Success• Niagara posted a 3.40 team GPA during the summer school session. • The Purple Eagles followed with a 3.18 GPA in the fall 2019 semester.

NU To Broadcast All Home Games On ESPN • All of Niagara men’s and women’s basketball home games will be broadcast on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ for the fi rst time. • The broadcasts will continue to add to Niagara’s enhanced gameday experience, which includes three high-defi nition LED video boards in its athletic venues and a renovated video production studio in Dunleavy Hall. • The improvements are thanks to the generosity of Bill McKnight (‘66), president of Auto-mated Petroleum and Energy Co., and his wife, Kathy, who gifted Niagara University Athlet-ics with $1 million to transform the gameday experience.• Each of the upgrades allows communication studies, sport management and other appli-cable majors practical experiences in gameday operations, including roles as camera opera-tors, technical directors, assistant directors, graphics producers, video and replay operators and sideline reporters.

Atlantic City’s Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall To Host 2020-22 MAAC Championships • The MAAC announced in May that the Jim Whelan Boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ has been selected to host the 2020-22 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships.• Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall will host the MAAC Basketball Championships for the fi rst time in history. The MAAC Basketball Championships will return to the state of New Jersey for the fi rst time since 2003. • The 2020-22 Basketball Championships will be co-hosted by MAAC member institutions Monmouth University and Rider University. The 2020 championships take place March 10-14, while the 2021 championships are March 9-13, and 2022 championships are March 8-12. The championship games will take place on the Saturday of the event each year.

Greg Paulus, whose stellar resume includes eight NCAA Tournament appearances as a player and a coach, has developed his craft after 14 years of playing and coaching at some of the most prestigious programs in collegiate athletics.

Paulus is highly regarded in college athletics for his dedication to the holistic development of student-athletes. Paulus joined the Purple Eagles staff in May as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, and he has been instrumental in building this incoming class for the team.

Paulus, who started at point guard for legendary college basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University, previously served on the coaching staffs at George Washington, Louisville, Ohio State and Navy.

Paulus was on the staff at George Washington for the 2018-19 season and spent the 2017-18 season at Louisville where he helped the Cardinals to an NIT Quarterfi nals appearance. While at Louisville, he assisted in the development of two NBA players - Deng Adel and Ray Spalding.

He was an assistant coach for four seasons at Ohio State (2013-17) after serving as the program’s video coordinator for two years (2011-13).

During six years on the staff there, Paulus served as both offensive and defensive coordinator as Ohio State produced a 147-66 record, two Big Ten Championships and participated in the NCAA Tournament on four occasions, including playing in two NCAA Regional Finals and reaching the 2012 Final Four.

Paulus helped the Buckeyes sign top-10 recruiting classes in 2014 and 2015 and was recognized by college basketball national reporter Jeff

Goodman as one of the nation’s top assistant coaches in 2015. He had extensive work player development which helped lead to four NBA draft selections - Jared Sullinger, Deshaun Thomas, Keita Bates-Diop and D’Angelo Russell. Paulus began his coaching career as an assistant coach at the Naval Academy (2010-11).

Paulus was recognized by the NABC 30-Under-30 program, and has attended nationally recognized leadership development programs like

Villa 7, Ethics Coalition Coaches Academy, and the 2019 Collegiate Coaching Consortium. Paulus had a successful four-year playing career at Duke (2005-09). A three-year starter and two-time captain for Duke, he played on three

ACC Championship teams and four NCAA Tournament teams, helping Duke to a combined 112-28 record while leading the team in assists in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

As a freshman in 2006, Paulus was a member of the ACC All-Freshman First Team, the ACC All-Tournament Second Team and a second-team freshman All-American while averaging 6.7 points and 5.2 assists. He is one of just four freshmen in ACC history to lead the league in assists. He scored 1,193 career points at Duke and ranks among the career top 10 in assists (468), three-point fi eld goals (210) and three-point fi eld goal percentage (.398).

Paulus spent the 2009-10 season at Syracuse as a graduate student transfer on the football team where he was the starting quarterback and

captain. He passed for 2,024 yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 games. His 67.7 completion percentage (193-of-285) is a Syracuse single-season record.
