ST101 Solar Hot Water (40 hour course)Theory, Design & Installation Techniques necessary to install and maintain a solar domestic hot water system. Passive solar water heaters, drain-back systems, antifreeze system, pool and space heating systems Safety, code compliance, sizing and solar collector performance Based upon the NABCEP Solar Thermal Task Analysis
PV101 Solar Electric Fundamentals and Grid-Direct Design (40 hour course)Fundamentals of Photovoltaic site analysis, mounting, and grounding Students wire a grid-direct system, including the inverter, disconnects, racking and grounding using commercially available components and small 20-watt modulesPreparation for the NABCEP Solar PV testing requirements
PV 202 Grid Direct Solar Electric Systems and Code Criteria (40 hour course)Hands-on installation practice with grid direct systems Students will install, tear down, dissect, and reinstall different grid-direct PV systems. The lab workshop will focus on safe installation and commissioning practices.Preparation for the NABCEP Solar PV testing requirements
Acquired a one (1) year, renewable training license from SEI

Solar Training Curricula
Solar Energy International selected as the initial training material provider
After successfully completing PV 101, participants are eligible to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam. Both NABCEP and SEI recommend students do not take the exam immediately following PV 101, but rather spend additional time preparing. The NABCEP exam includes questions on grid-direct and battery-based PV systems.

NABCEP PV Installer Certification
The NABCEP PV installer certification is a voluntary certification that provides a set of national standards by which PV installers with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from their competition.
Certification provides a measure of protection to the public by giving them a credential for judging the competency of practitioners.
It is not intended to prevent qualified individuals from installing PV systems nor to replace state licensure requirements.

The 20-24 PV panels associated with the RFP:16 are intended to be used for demonstration purposes on campus and to offset energy consumption at one of our training classrooms/test houses. The remaining PV panels will be used during the mock installation portion of our trainingA test roof is being constructed
Solar ThermalDiscussions with a solar thermal manufacturer for a donation of a packaged solar thermal system for use in training students in credit and non credit programs. Solar Thermal training will be incorporated into the plumbing trades credit degree program and will be incorporated into the solar training course in the Corporate and Continuing Education division
