INTRODUCTION
A chainsaw is a high‐speed wood‐cutting tool. Special safety precautions must be observed to reduce the risk of accidents.
Failure to follow all safety rules and precautions can result in serious injury.
If situations occur which are not covered in this manual, use care and good judgment. If you need assistance, contact your authorized service dealer or call consumer support.
PLANNING AHEAD
Read this manual carefully until you completely understand and can follow all safety rules, precautions, and operating instructions before attempting to use the unit.
Restrict the use of your saw to adult users who understand and can follow safety rules, precautions, and operating instructions found in this manual.
Wear protective gear. Always use steel‐toed safety footwear with non‐slip soles; snug‐fitting clothing; safety chaps; heavy‐duty, non‐slip gloves; eye protection such as non‐fogging, vented goggles or face screen; an approved safety hard hat; and sound barriers (ear plugs or mufflers) to protect your hearing. Regular users should have hearing checked regularly as chainsaw noise can damage hearing. Secure hair above shoulder length.
Keep all parts of your body away from the chain when the engine is running.
Keep children, bystanders, and animals a minimum of 30 feet (10 meters) away from the work area. Do not allow other people or animals to be near the chainsaw when starting or operating the chainsaw.
Do not handle or operate a chainsaw when you are fatigued, ill, or upset, or if you have taken alcohol, drugs, or medication. You
must be in good physical condition and mentally alert. Chainsaw work is strenuous. If you have any condition that might be aggravated by strenuous work, check with your doctor before operating a chainsaw.
Carefully plan your sawing operation in advance. Do not start cutting until you have a clear work area, secure footing, and, if you are felling trees, a planned retreat path.
OPERATING YOUR SAW
Do not operate a chainsaw with one hand. Serious injury to the operator, helpers, bystanders or any combination of these persons may result from one‐handed operation. A chainsaw is intended for two‐handed use.
Operate the chainsaw only in a well‐ventilated outdoor area.
Do not operate saw from a ladder or in a tree.
Make sure the chain will not make contact with any object while starting the engine. Never try to start the saw when the guide bar is in a cut.
Do not put pressure on the saw at the end of the cut. Applying pressure can cause you to lose control when the cut is completed.
Stop the engine before setting the saw down.
Do not operate a chainsaw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or not completely and securely assembled. Always replace bar, chain, hand guard, or chain brake immediately if it becomes damaged, broken or is otherwise removed.
Exposure to vibrations through prolonged use of gasoline powered hand tools could cause blood vessel or nerve damage in the fingers, hands, and joints of people prone to circulation disorders or abnormal swellings. Prolonged use in cold weather has been linked to blood vessel damage in otherwise healthy people. If symptoms occur such as numbness, pain, loss of strength, change in skin color or texture, or loss of feeling in the fingers, hands, or joints, discontinue the use of this tool and seek medical attention. An

anti-vibration system does not guarantee the avoidance of these problems. Users who operate power tools on a continual and regular basis must monitor closely their physical condition and the condition of this tool.
With the engine stopped, hand-carry the chainsaw with the muffler away from your body, and the guide bar and chain to the rear, preferably covered with a scabbard.
MAINTAINING YOUR SAW
Have all chainsaw service performed by a qualified service dealer with the exception of the items listed in the maintenance section of this manual. For example, if improper tools are used to remove or hold the flywheel when servicing the clutch, structural damage to the flywheel can occur and cause the flywheel to burst.
Make certain the saw chain stops moving when the throttle trigger is released. For correction, refer to Carburetor Adjustment.
Never modify your saw in any way.
Keep the handles dry, clean, and free of oil or fuel mixture.
Keep fuel and oil caps, screws, and fasteners securely tightened.
Use only genuine accessories and replacement parts as recommended.
Your saw is equipped with a temperature limiting muffler and spark arresting screen which meets the requirements of California Codes 4442 and 4443. All U.S. forest land and the states of California, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington require by law that many internal combustion engines to be equipped with a spark arresting screen. If you operate a chainsaw in a state or locale where such regulations exist, you are legally responsible for maintaining the operating condition of these parts. Failure to do so is a violation of the law. Refer to the SERVICE section for maintenance of the spark arresting screen.
HANDLING FUEL
Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the saw.
Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame in the areas where fuel is mixed or poured. There should be no smoking, open flames, or work that could cause sparks. Allow engine to cool before refueling.
Always have fire extinguishing tools available if you should need them.
Mix and pour fuel in an outdoor area on bare ground; store fuel in a cool, dry, well ventilated place; and use an approved,
marked container for all fuel purposes. Wipe up all fuel spills before starting saw.
Move at least 10 feet (3 meters) from fueling site before starting engine.
Turn the engine off and let saw cool in a non‐combustible area, not on dry leaves, straw, paper, etc. Slowly remove fuel cap and refuel unit.
Store the unit and fuel in an area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters, electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
UNDERSTANDING KICKBACK
WARNING: Avoid kickback which can result in serious injury. Kickback is the backward, upward or sudden forward motion of the guide bar occurring when the saw chain near the upper tip of the guide bar contacts any object such as a log or branch, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Contacting a foreign object in the wood can also result in loss of chainsaw control.
Rotational Kickback
Rotational kickback can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper tip of the guide bar. This contact can cause the chain to dig into the object, which stops the chain for an instant. The result is a lightning fast, reverse reaction which kicks the guide bar up and back toward the operator.
Pinch Kickback
Pinch kickback can occur when the wood closes in and pinches the moving saw chain in the cut along the top of the guide bar and the saw chain is suddenly stopped. This sudden stopping of the chain results in a reversal of the chain force used to cut wood and causes the saw to move in the opposite direction of the chain rotation. The saw is driven straight back toward the operator.
Pull-In
Pull‐in can occur when the moving chain contacts a foreign object in the wood in the cut along the bottom of the guide bar and the saw chain is suddenly stopped. This sudden stopping pulls the saw forward and away from the operator and could easily cause the operator to lose control of the saw.
REDUCING THE CHANCE OF KICKBACK Recognize that kickback can happen. With a
basic understanding of kickback, you can reduce the element of surprise which contributes to accidents.
Never let the moving chain contact any object at the tip of the guide bar.

Keep the working area free from obstructions such as other trees, branches, rocks, fences, stumps, etc. Eliminate or avoid any obstruction that your saw chain could hit while you are cutting. When cutting a branch, do not let the guide bar contact branch or other objects around it.
Keep your saw chain sharp and properly tensioned. A loose or dull chain can increase the chance of kickback occurring. Follow manufacturer's chain sharpening and maintenance instructions. Check tension at regular intervals with the engine stopped, never with the engine running. Make sure the bar nuts are securely tightened after tensioning the chain.
Begin and continue cutting at full speed. If the chain is moving at a slower speed, there is greater chance of kickback occurring.
Use wedges made of plastic or wood. Never use metal to hold the cut open.
Cut one log at a time.
Use extreme caution when re‐entering a previous cut.
Do not attempt cuts starting with the tip of the bar (plunge cuts).
Watch for shifting logs or other forces that could close a cut and pinch or fall into chain.
Do not twist the saw as the bar is withdrawn from an undercut when bucking.
Use the reduced-kickback guide bar and low-kickback chain specified for your saw.
MAINTAINING CONTROL
Keep a good, firm grip on the saw with both hands when the engine is running and don't let go. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and maintain control of the saw. Keep the fingers of your left hand encircling and your left thumb under the front handlebar. Keep your right hand completely around the rear handle whether you are right handed or left handed. Keep your left arm straight with the elbow locked.
Position your left hand on the front handlebar so it is in a straight line with your right hand on the rear handle when making bucking cuts. Never reverse right and left hand positions for any type of cutting.
Stand with your weight evenly balanced on both feet.
Stand slightly to the left side of the saw to keep your body from being in a direct line with the cutting chain.
Do not overreach. You could be drawn or thrown off balance and lose control of the saw.
Do not cut above shoulder height. It is difficult to maintain control of saw above shoulder height.
KICKBACK SAFETY FEATURES
WARNING: The following features are included on your saw to help reduce the hazard of kickback; however, such features will not totally eliminate this danger. As a chainsaw user, do not rely only on safety devices. You must follow all safety precautions, instructions, and maintenance in this manual to help avoid kickback and other forces which can result in serious injury.
Reduced Kickback Guide Bar
The reduced-kickback guide bar is designed with a small radius tip which reduces the size of the kickback danger zone on the bar tip. A reduced-kickback guide bar has been demonstrated to significantly reduce the number and seriousness of kickbacks when tested in accordance with safety requirements for gasoline powered chainsaws as set by ANSI B175.1.
Low-Kickback Chain
A low-kickback chain is designed with a contoured depth gauge and guard link which deflect kickback force and allow wood to gradually ride into the cutter. Low-kickback chain has met kickback performance requirements when tested on a representative sample of chainsaws below 3.8 cubic inch displacement specified in ANSI B175.1.
Front Hand Guard
The front hand guard is designed to reduce the chance of your left hand contacting the chain if your hand slips off the front handlebar.
The distance and “in‐line” position of the hands provided by the front and rear handles work together to give balance and resistance in controlling the pivot of the saw back toward the operator if kickback occurs.
Chain Brake
The chain brake is designed to stop the chain in the event of kickback.
NOTE: We do not represent and you should not assume that the chain brake will protect you in the event of a kickback. Do not rely upon any of the devices built into your saw. You should use the saw properly and carefully to avoid kickback.
Chain brake repairs should only be made by a Sears or other qualified service dealer.
NOTE: If this saw is to be used for commercial logging, a chain brake is required and shall not be removed or otherwise disabled to comply with Federal OSHA Regulations for Commercial Logging.

The ON/STOP SWITCH (8) is used to stop the engine.
The THROTTLE TRIGGER (18) controls engine speed.
The THROTTLE LOCK--OUT (16) must be pressed before you can squeeze the throttle trigger. This feature prevents you from accidentally squeezing the trigger.
The choke and fast idle are set by pulling the CHOKE/FAST IDLE LEVER (9) out to the full extent for cold starting or after refueling. The choke provides additional fuel to the engine during cold starting.
The PRIMER (AIR PURGE) BULB (10) circulates fuel to the carburetor to provide quicker starting.
The CHAIN BRAKE (3) is a device designed to stop the chain if kickback occurs. The chain brake activates automatically in the event of kickback. The chain brake activates manually if the front hand guard is pushed forward. The chain brake is disengaged by pulling the front hand guard back toward the front handle as far as possible.
ASSEMBLY If received assembled, repeat all steps to ensure your saw is properly assembled and all fasteners are secure.
1. Check that the chain brake is in the unlocked position by pulling the front hand guard towards the front handle.
2. Loosen and remove the bar nuts and the
clutch cover from the saw. 3. Remove the plastic shipping spacer (A) if
present.
4. An adjusting pin and screw is used to adjust
the tension of the chain. It is very important when assembling the bar that the adjusting pin located on the adjusting screw aligns into a hole in the bar. Turning the screw will move the adjusting pin up and down the screw. Locate this adjusting pin before you begin mounting the bar onto the saw. See following illustration.
5. Turn the adjusting screw by hand
counterclockwise until the adjusting pin is positioned between the indicator marks (B) on the clutch cover. This should allow the adjusting pin to be near the correct position.
6. Slide guide bar with chain on bar bolts until guide bar stops against clutch drum
sprocket. Cutters must face in the direction of rotation.
7. Check that the drive links of the chain fit
correctly on the drive sprocket and that the chain is in the groove on the bar.
8. Fit the clutch cover and insert the adjusting pin in the cut-out in the bar.
9. Tighten the bar nut finger-tight. 10. Tension the chain by turning the chain
tensioning screw clockwise using the combination tool. The chain is correctly tensioned when it does not sag from the underside of the bar, but can still be turned easily by hand.

11. Hold up the bar tip and tighten the bar nuts with the combination tool.
When fitting a new chain, the chain tension has to be checked frequently until the chain is run-in. Check the chain tension regularly. A correctly tensioned chain ensures good cutting performance and long life.

STARTING AND STOPPING
PRE-OPERATION INSPECTION
Perform the following steps before every use of the machine:
Check fuel mixture level
Check bar lubrication
Check chain sharpness
NOTE: Chain sharpening is a complicated task that requires special tools. We recommend that you refer chain sharpening to a professional chain sharpener.
Check chain tension
Inspect and clean the guide bar
Check for damaged parts
Check for loose caps
Check for loose fasteners
Check for loose parts
Check for fuel and oil leaks
NOTE: It is normal for a small amount of oil to appear under the saw after the engine stops. Do not confuse this with a leaking oil tank.
FUELING THE ENGINE
WARNING: Be sure to read the fuel handling information in the safety rules section of this manual before you begin. If you do not understand the fuel handling information do not attempt to fuel your unit. Seek help from someone that does understand the information or call the consumer assistance help line.
WARNING: Remove the fuel cap slowly when fueling.
This equipment is designed to operate on unleaded gasoline with a minimum 87 octane (R+M/2 method), with ethanol blended up to 10% maximum by volume (E-10).
Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a good quality full synthetic 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 50:1.
A 50:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 2.6 fluid ounces of full synthetic oil with 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline. DO NOT USE automotive oil or marine oil. These oils will cause engine damage.
When mixing fuel, follow the instructions printed on the container. Once the oil is added to the gasoline, shake the container momentarily to assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed.
Fill the fuel tank completely with properly mixed fuel.
Always read and follow the safety rules relating to fuel before fueling your unit.
Purchase fuel in quantities that can be used within 30 days to assure fuel freshness.
HELPFUL TIP
During storage of your fuel mixture, the oil will separate from the gasoline.
Shake the fuel can weekly to insure proper blending of the gasoline and oil.
CAUTION: Never use unmixed gasoline in your unit. This will cause permanent engine damage and void the limited warranty.
CAUTION: Do not use alternate fuels such as ethanol blends above 10% by volume (E-15, E-85) or any methanol blended fuel. Use of these fuels can cause major engine performance problems and void the limited warranty.
BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION
The bar and chain require continuous lubrication. Lubrication is provided by the automatic oiler system when the oil tank is kept filled. Lack of oil will quickly ruin the bar and chain. Too little oil will cause overheating shown by smoke coming from the chain and/or discoloration of the bar. In freezing weather oil will thicken, making it necessary to thin bar and chain oil with a small amount (5 to 10%) of #1 diesel fuel or kerosene. Bar and chain oil must be free flowing for the oil system to pump enough oil for adequate lubrication.
If bar and chain oil is not available, use a good grade SAE 30 oil.
Fill the oil tank completely with oil.
CAUTION: Never use waste oil for bar and chain lubrication.
CAUTION: Always stop the engine before removing the oil cap.
STARTING POSITION
1. Lay the chainsaw on a flat surface. The cutting attachment must not be in contact with the ground.
2. Lock the chain brake by pushing forward on the handguard.
3. Place your left hand on the handlebar and your right hand on the starter rope. Push your right foot into the rear handle to stabilize the chainsaw.
4. Follow the starting instructions.

STOPPING THE CHAIN
To stop the chain, release the throttle trigger. The chain will stop moving, but the engine will continue to run.
Wait until the chain has completely stopped before setting down the chainsaw or carrying it to another location.
WARNING: NEVER touch the chain if it is still moving! Even a very slowly moving chain can inflict severe cuts to hands and fingers.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Press the red stop switch to stop the engine.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Follow these instructions to start your chainsaw. Your chainsaw has a starting reminder decal similar to the one shown below:
Starting A Cold Engine
Before starting, push the front hand guard toward guide bar to lock chain brake.
Press the primer (air purge) bulb 10 times until fuel begins to fill the bulb. The primer (air purge) bulb does not need to be completely filled.
Pull the blue choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position. The red ON/STOP switch will be switched automatically to the ON position.
Using your right hand, pull the starter rope until the machine attempts to start, or a maximum of 5 times.
NOTE: This unit has the SIMPUL+ starting system. You do not have to pull the starter rope handle sharply or briskly.
NOTE: If the engine sounds as if it is trying to start before the fifth pull, stop pulling and immediately proceed to the next step.
NOTE: Do not attempt to cut material with the choke/fast idle lever in the FULL CHOKE position.
Push the blue choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position.
NOTE: In temperatures above 90°F (32°C), push the blue choke lever completely in.
Pull the starter rope sharply with your right hand until the engine starts.
Allow the engine to run for 30 seconds.
Push the blue choke lever completely in.
Before accelerating to full throttle, pull the front hand guard towards the front handle. The chain brake is now unlocked. Your chainsaw is now ready for use.
WARNING: The chain must not move when the engine runs at idle speed. If the chain moves at idle speed refer to CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT within this manual.
WARNING: Do not attempt to throw or drop-start the chainsaw. Doing so will put the operator at risk of serious injury due to loss of control of the chainsaw.
WARNING: The muffler is very hot during and after use. Do not touch the muffler or allow combustible material such as dry grass or fuel to do so.
HELPFUL TIP
If your engine still does not start after following the instructions, contact consumer assistance.
Starting A Warm Engine
Before starting, push the front hand guard toward guide bar to lock chain brake.
Press the primer (air purge) bulb 10 times until fuel begins to fill the bulb. The primer (air purge) bulb does not need to be completely filled.
Pull the blue choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position. The red ON/STOP switch will be switched automatically to the ON position.
Push the blue choke lever completely in.
Pull the starter rope with your right hand until the engine starts.
Before accelerating to full throttle, pull the front hand guard towards the front handle. The chain brake is now unlocked. Your chainsaw is now ready for use.

NOTE: If the product does not restart, the problem could be overheated fuel.
To fix this problem, try the following procedure:
1. Set the product in a cool area away from direct sunlight.
2. Allow the product to cool for at least 20 minutes.
3. Press primer (air purge) bulb repeatedly for 10-15 seconds.
4. Follow the cold starting procedure.
Repeat this procedure if the problem still exists.
NOTE: Always use fresh seasonal fuel and shorten operation time during unseasonably warm weather.
Starting A Flooded Engine
The engine may be flooded with too much fuel if it has not started after 10 pulls.
Flooded engines can be restarted by pushing the blue choke lever in completely to the OFF CHOKE position and then following the warm engine starting procedure listed above. Ensure the red ON/STOP switch is in the ON position.
Starting could require pulling the starter rope handle many times depending on how badly the unit is flooded. If the engine fails to start, refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call the consumer assistance help line.
CHAIN TENSION
It is normal for a new chain to stretch during the first 15 minutes of operation. You should check your chain tension each time before you start the chainsaw. See the chain tensioning instructions in the ASSEMBLY section.
WARNING: If the saw is operated with a loose chain, the chain could jump off the guide bar and result in serious injury to the operator and/or damage the chain, making it unusable.
CHECKING THE CHAIN BRAKE
The chain brake must be checked before each use. The engine must be running when performing this procedure.
This is the only instance when the saw should be placed on the ground with the engine running.
1. Place the saw on firm ground.
2. Grip the rear handle with your right hand and the front handle with your left hand.
3. Apply full throttle by fully depressing the throttle trigger.
4. Activate the chain by turning your left wrist to contact the front hand guard without releasing your grip around the front handle. The chain should stop immediately.
CHECKING THE INERTIA ACTIVATING FUNCTION CONTROL
WARNING: When performing the following procedure, the engine must be turned off.
1. Grip the rear handle with your right hand and the front handle with your left hand.
2. Hold the chainsaw approximately 16-18 inches (40-45 centimeters) above a stump or other wooden surface.
3. Release your grip on the front handle and use the weight of the saw to let the tip of the guide bar fall forward and contact the stump. When the tip of the bar hits the stump, the brake should activate as observed by the front hand guard snapping forward toward the guide bar.
WORKING TECHNIQUES
PRACTICING YOUR CUTS
Practice cutting a few small logs using the following techniques to get the “feel” of using your saw before you begin a major sawing operation.
Squeeze the throttle trigger and allow the engine to reach full speed before cutting.
Begin cutting with the saw frame against the log.
Keep the engine at full speed the entire time you are cutting.
Allow the chain to cut for you. Exert only light downward pressure. If you force the cut, damage to the guide bar, chain, or engine can result.
Release the throttle trigger as soon as the cut is completed, allowing the engine to idle. If you run the saw at full throttle without a cutting load, unnecessary wear can occur to the chain, guide bar, and engine. It is recommended that the engine not be operated for longer than 30 seconds at full throttle.
To avoid losing control when cut is complete, do not put pressure on saw at end of cut.
Stop the engine before setting the saw down after cutting.

FELLING A TREE
Planning
WARNING: Check for broken or dead branches which can fall while cutting causing serious injury. Do not cut near buildings or electrical wires if you do not know the direction of tree fall, nor cut at night since you will not be able to see well, nor during bad weather such as rain, snow, or strong winds, etc. If the tree makes contact with any utility line, the utility company should be notified immediately.
Carefully plan your sawing operation in advance.
Clear the work area. You need a clear area all around the tree so you can have secure footing.
The chainsaw operator should keep on the uphill side of the terrain as the tree is likely to roll or slide downhill after it is felled.
Study the natural conditions that can cause the tree to fall in a particular direction.
Natural conditions that can cause a tree to fall in a particular direction include:
The wind direction and speed.
The lean of the tree. The lean of a tree might not be apparent due to uneven or sloping terrain. Use a plumb or level to determine the direction of tree lean.
Weight and branches on one side.
Surrounding trees and obstacles.
Look for decay and rot. If the trunk is rotted, it can snap and fall toward the operator. Check for broken or dead branches which can fall on you while cutting.
Make sure there is enough room for the tree to fall. Maintain a distance of 2-1/2 tree lengths from the nearest person or other objects. Engine noise can drown out a warning call.
Remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, staples, and wire from the tree where cuts are to be made.
Plan a clear retreat path to the rear and diagonal to the line of fall. Note the danger zone (1), retreat path (2), and felling direction (3) in the following diagram.
Using The Notch Method
The notch method is used to fell large trees. A notch is cut on the side of the tree in the desired direction of fall. After a felling cut is made on the opposite side of tree, the tree will tend to fall into the notch.
NOTE: If the tree has large buttress roots, remove them before making the notch. If using saw to remove buttress roots, keep saw chain from contacting ground to prevent dulling of the chain.
Make the notch cut by cutting the top of the notch first. Cut through 1/3 of the diameter of the tree. Next complete the notch by cutting the bottom of the notch. Once the notch is cut remove the notch of wood from the tree.
After removing the wood from the notch, make the felling cut on the opposite side of the notch. This is done by making a cut about two inches (5 cm) higher than the center of the notch. This will leave enough uncut wood between the felling cut and the notch to form a hinge. This hinge will help prevent the tree from falling in the wrong direction.
NOTE: Before felling cut is complete, use wedges to open the cut if necessary to control the direction of fall. To avoid kickback and chain damage, use wood or

plastic wedges, but never steel or iron wedges.
Be alert to signs that the tree is ready to fall: cracking sounds, widening of the felling cut, or movement in the upper branches.
As tree starts to fall, stop saw, put it down, and get away quickly on your planned retreat path.
DO NOT cut down a partially fallen tree with your saw. Be extremely cautious with partially fallen trees that may be poorly supported. When a tree doesn’t fall completely, set the saw aside and pull down the tree with a cable winch, block and tackle, or tractor.
CUTTING A FALLEN TREE (BUCKING)
Bucking is the term used for cutting a fallen tree to the desired log size.
WARNING: Do not stand on the log being cut. Any portion can roll causing loss of footing and control. Do not stand downhill of the log being cut.
Important Points
Cut only one log at a time.
Cut shattered wood very carefully; sharp pieces of wood could be flung toward operator.
Use a sawhorse to cut small logs. Never allow another person to hold the log while cutting and never hold the log with your leg or foot.
Do not cut in an area where logs, limbs, and roots are tangled such as in a blown down area. Drag the logs into a clear area before cutting by pulling out exposed and cleared logs first.
Make sure the chain will not strike the ground or any other object during or after cutting.
WARNING: If saw becomes pinched or hung in a log, don’t try to force it out. You can lose control of the saw resulting in injury and/or damage to the saw. Stop the saw, drive a wedge of plastic or wood into the cut until the saw can be removed easily. Restart the saw and carefully reenter the cut. To avoid kickback and chain damage, do not use a metal wedge. Do not attempt to restart your saw when it is pinched or hung in a log.
Types Of Bucking Cuts
Overcutting begins on the top side of the log with the bottom of the saw against the log. When overcutting use light downward pressure.
Undercutting involves cutting on the underside of the log with top of saw against the log. When undercutting use light upward pressure. Hold saw firmly and maintain control. The saw will tend to push back toward you.
WARNING: Never turn saw upside down to undercut. The saw cannot be controlled in this position.
Always make your first cut on the compression side of the log. The compression side of the log is where the pressure of the log’s weight is concentrated.
Bucking Without A Support
1. Overcut through 1/3 of the diameter of the log.
2. Roll the log over and finish with a second overcut.
NOTE: Watch for logs with a compression side to prevent the saw from pinching.
Bucking Using A Log Or Support Stand
1. Make the first cut on the compression side of the log. Your first cut should extend 1/3 of the diameter of the log.
2. Finish with your second cut.

LIMBING AND PRUNING
WARNING: Be alert for and guard against kickback. Do not allow the moving chain to contact any other branches or objects at the nose of the guide bar when limbing or pruning. Allowing such contact can result in serious injury.
WARNING: Never climb into a tree to limb or prune. Do not stand on ladders, platforms, a log, or in any position which can cause you to lose your balance or control of the saw.
Important Points
Work slowly, keeping both hands firmly gripped on the saw. Maintain secure footing and balance.
Watch out for springpoles. Springpoles are small size limbs which can catch the saw chain and whip toward you or pull you off balance. Use extreme caution when cutting small size limbs or slender material.
Be alert for springback. Watch out for branches that are bent or under pressure. Avoid being struck by the branch or the saw when the tension in the wood fibers is released.
Keep a clear work area. Frequently clear branches out of the way to avoid tripping over them.
Limbing
Always limb a tree after it is cut down. Only then can limbing be done safely and properly.
Leave the larger limbs underneath the felled tree to support the tree as you work.
Start at the base of the felled tree and work toward the top, cutting branches and limbs. Remove small limbs with one cut.
Keep the tree between you and the chain. Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you are cutting.
Remove larger, supporting branches with the cutting techniques described in BUCKING WITHOUT A SUPPORT.
Always use an overcut to cut small and freely hanging limbs. Undercutting could cause limbs to fall and pinch the saw.
Pruning
WARNING: Limit pruning to limbs shoulder height or below. Do not cut if branches are higher than your shoulder. Get a professional to do the job.
1. Make the first cut one-third of the way through the bottom of the limb.
2. Make the second cut all the way through the limb.
3. Make the third overcut leaving a 1 to 2 inch (2.5 to 5 cm) collar from the trunk of the tree.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
WARNING: Disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance except for carburetor adjustments.
The warranty on this unit does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from the warranty, the operator must maintain the unit as instructed in this manual. Various adjustments will need to be made periodically to properly maintain your unit.
Have all repairs other than the recommended maintenance described in the instruction manual performed by a Sears or other qualified service dealer. It is your responsibility to maintain and perform general maintenance.

CHAIN
WARNING: Improper chain sharpening techniques and/or depth gauge maintenance will increase the chance of kickback which can result in serious injury.
WARNING: Wear protective gloves when handling chain. The chain is sharp and can cut you even when it is not moving.
Conditions which indicate the need for chain sharpening:
Reduction in size of wood chips. The size of the wood chip will decrease as the chain gets duller until it becomes more like a powder than a chip. Note that dead or rotted wood will not produce a good chip.
Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
Saw has to be forced through the cut.
Tools required:
5/32 inch (4 mm) diameter round file and filing guide
Flat file
Depth gauge tool
To sharpen chain:
1. Move ON/STOP switch to the STOP position.
2. Check chain for proper tension. Adjust chain tension if necessary. See CHAIN TENSION section.
3. Sharpen cutters.
To sharpen the cutters, position the filing guide level (90°) so that it rests on the top edges of the cutter and depth gauge.
NOTE: The chain has both left and right hand cutters.
Align the 30° filing guide marks parallel with
the bar and to the center of the chain.

Sharpen cutters on one side of the chain first. File from the inside of each cutter to the outside. Then, turn the chain saw around and repeat the process for the other side of the chain.
File on the forward stroke only. Use 2 or 3 strokes per cutting edge.
Keep all cutters the same length when filing.
File enough to remove any damage to cutting edges (side plate and top plate of cutter).
File chain to meet the specifications as shown.
WARNING: Maintain the proper hook angle according to the manufacturer’s specifications for the chain you are using. Improper hook angle will increase the chance of kickback which can result in serious injury.
4. Check and lower depth gauges.
Place gauge tool on cutter.
If the depth gauge is higher than the depth gauge tool, file it level to the top of the depth gauge tool.
Maintain rounded front corner of depth gauge with a flat file.
NOTE: The very top of the depth gauge should be flat with the front half rounded off with a flat file.
GUIDE BAR
Conditions which require guide bar maintenance:
Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
Saw has to be forced through the cut.
Inadequate supply of oil to bar/chain.
Check the condition of guide bar each time chain is sharpened. A worn guide bar will damage the chain and make cutting difficult.
After each use, ensure ON/STOP switch is in the STOP position, then clean all sawdust from the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:
1. Move ON/STOP switch to STOP.
2. Loosen and remove bar nuts and clutch cover. Remove bar and chain from saw.
3. Clean the oil holes (A) and bar groove (B).
4. Burring of guide bar rails is a normal process of rail wear. Remove these burrs with a flat file.
5. When rail top is uneven, use a flat file to restore square edges and sides.
Replace guide bar when the groove is worn, the guide bar is bent or cracked, or when excess heating or burring of the rails occurs. If replacement is necessary, use only the guide bar specified for your saw in the repair parts list or on the decal located on the chainsaw.
INSPECT AND CLEAN THE UNIT AND DECALS
After each use, inspect complete unit for loose or damaged parts. Clean the unit and decals using a damp cloth with a mild detergent.
Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth.
CHECK THE CHAIN BRAKE
See CHAIN BRAKE in the OPERATION section.
MUFFLER
As the unit is used, carbon deposits build up on the muffler and spark arresting screen, and

must be removed to avoid creating a fire hazard or affecting engine performance.
Replace the spark arresting screen if breaks occur.
1. Loosen and remove the nut (A) from the exhaust outlet cover (B).
2. Remove the exhaust outlet cover.
3. Remove the spark arresting screen (C). Handle the screen carefully to prevent damage.
4. Clean the spark arresting screen gently with a wire brush. Replace screen if breaks are found.
5. Replace any broken or cracked muffler parts.
6. Reinstall spark arresting screen, exhaust outlet cover, and nut. Tighten nut securely to 25-35 in-lb.
SPARK PLUG
NOTE: For models sold in Canada, the spark ignition system complies with the Canadian standard ICES-002.
1. Loosen the three screws (A) on the cylinder cover (B).
2. Remove the cylinder cover.
3. Pull off the spark plug boot (C).
4. Remove spark plug (D) from the cylinder and discard.
5. Install a new spark plug and tighten securely with a 3/4 inch (19 mm) socket wrench to 15-25 ft-lb. The spark plug gap should be 0.025 inch (0,6 mm).
6. Reinstall the spark plug boot.
7. Reinstall the cylinder cover and the three screws. Tighten securely to 13-18 in-lb.
FUEL FILTER
To replace fuel filter, drain your unit by running it dry of fuel. Remove fuel cap and its connected retainer from tank. Pull filter from tank and remove from line. Replace and reassemble.
AIR FILTER
CAUTION: Do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent to avoid creating a fire hazard or producing evaporative emissions.
A dirty air filter decreases the life and performance of the engine and increases fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Always clean your air filter according to the maintenance schedule. Clean more frequently in dusty conditions.
A used air filter can never be completely cleaned. It is advisable to replace your air filter with a new one according to the maintenance schedule.
1. Loosen the three screws (A) on the cylinder cover (B).
2. Remove the cylinder cover.
3. Remove the air filter cover (C) and air filter (D).
4. Clean the air filter using hot soapy water. Rinse with clean cool water. Air dry completely before reinstalling.
5. Reinstall the air filter and air filter cover.
6. Reinstall the cylinder cover and three screws. Tighten securely to 13-18 in-lb.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: The chain will be moving during most of this procedure. Wear your protective equipment and observe all safety precautions. The chain must not move at idle speed.
Indications for idle speed adjustment:
The carburetor has been carefully set at the factory. Adjustments may be necessary if you notice any of the following conditions:
The chain moves at idle. See IDLE SPEED-T ADJUSTMENT procedure.
The saw will not idle. See IDLE SPEED-T ADJUSTMENT procedure.
Idle speed-T adjustment:
Allow the engine to idle. If the chain moves, the idle is too fast. If the engine stalls, the idle is too slow.
Adjust the speed until the engine runs without chain movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too slow).
The idle speed screw is located in the area above the primer (air purge) bulb and is labeled “T”.
Turn the idle speed screw (T) clockwise to increase the engine speed.
Turn the idle speed screw (T) counterclockwise to decrease the engine speed.
STORAGE
WARNING: Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Secure the unit before storing or transporting it in a vehicle. Store the unit and fuel in an area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters, electric motors, switches, furnaces, etc.
WARNING: Store the unit with all guards in place. Position so that any sharp object cannot accidentally cause injury to passersby. Store the unit out of reach of children.
Before storing, drain all fuel from the unit. Start the engine and allow it to run until it runs completely out of fuel.
Clean the unit before storing. Pay particular attention to the air intake area, keeping it free of debris. Use a mild detergent and sponge to clean the plastic surfaces.
Ensure the machine is cleaned and that a complete service is carried out before long-term storage.
The guide bar and chain should be covered with a scabbard when the machine is being transported or in storage in order to prevent accidental contact with the sharp chain. Even a non-moving chain can cause serious cuts to yourself or others that make contact with an exposed chain.
CAUTION: It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential fuel system parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose, or fuel tank during storage. Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol) or using ethanol or methanol can attract moisture which leads to fuel mixture separation and formation of acids during storage. Acidic gas can damage the engine.

TROUBLESHOOTING
WARNING: Always stop the unit and disconnect the spark plug before performing all of the recommended remedies below except remedies that require operation of the unit.
TROUBLE: Engine will not start or will run only a few seconds after starting.
CAUSE REMEDY
1. Ignition switch off. See “STARTING” in the STARTING AND STOPPING section.
2. Engine flooded. See “Starting a Flooded Engine” in the OPERATION section.
3. Fuel tank empty. Fill tank with correct fuel mixture. See “FUELING THE ENGINE” in the STARTING AND STOPPING section.
4. Spark plug not firing. Install new spark plug. See “SPARK PLUG” in the MAINTENANCE section.
5. Fuel not reaching carburetor. Check for dirty fuel filter; replace.
Check for kinked or split fuel line. For repair or replacement, contact a Sears or other qualified service dealer.
TROUBLE: Engine will not idle properly.
CAUSE REMEDY
1. Idle speed re q u i r es adjustment. See “CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT” in the MAINTENANCE Section.
2. Carburetor requires adjustment. Contact a Sears or other qualified service dealer.
TROUBLE: Engine will not accelerate, lacks power, or dies under a load.
CAUSE REMEDY
1. Air filter dirty. Clean or replace air filter.
2. Spark plug fouled. Clean or replace plug and regap.
3. Chain brake locked. Unlock chain brake. See “STARTING POSITION” in the STARTING AND STOPPING section.
4. Carburetor requires adjustment. Contact a Sears or other qualified service dealer.
TROUBLE: Engine smokes excessively.
CAUSE REMEDY
1. Too much oil mixed with gasoline. Empty fuel tank and refill with correct fuel mixture.
TROUBLE: Chain moves at idle speed.
CAUSE REMEDY

TECHNICAL DATA The computed kickback angle (CKA) listed on your saw and listed in the CKA table below represents angle of kickback your bar and chain combinations will have when tested in accordance with CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and ANSI standards. When purchasing replacement bar and chain, considerations should be given to the lower CKA values. Lower CKA values represent safer angles to the user, higher values indicate more angle and higher kick energies. Computed angles represented indicate total energy and angle associated without activation of the chain brake during kickback. Activated angle represents chain stopping time relative to activation angle of chain break and resulting kick angle of saw. In all cases lower CKA values represent a safer operating environment for the user.
The following guide bar and chain combinations meet kickback requirements of CSA Standards Z62.1, Z62.3, & ANSI B175.1 when used on saws listed in this manual. Use of bar and chain combinations other than those listed is not recommended and may not meet the CKA requirements per standard.

INTRODUCCIÓN
Una motosierra es una herramienta de corte de madera de alta velocidad. Se deben tener precauciones especiales de seguridad para reducir el riesgo de accidentes.
Si no se siguen todas las normas y precauciones de seguridad, se pueden producir daños graves.
Si se producen situaciones que no están cubiertas en este manual, tenga cuidado y buen juicio. Si necesita ayuda, póngase en contacto con su taller de servicio autorizado o llame al centro de asistencia al consumidor.
PLANIFICACIÓN PARA EL FUTURO
Lea este manual cuidadosamente hasta queentienda completamente todas las normas deseguridad, las precauciones y lasinstrucciones de funcionamiento y puedaseguirlas antes de utilizar la unidad.

FUNCIONAMIENTO DE LA SIERRA
No opere la motosierra con una sola mano.Usar la motosierra con una mano puedecausar daño graves al operador, susayudantes, transeúntes o cualquiercombinación de estas personas. Lasmotosierras deben usarse con dos manos.
Haga funcionar la motosierra solo en lugaresbien ventilados y al aire libre.
No opere la sierra desde una escalera o unárbol.
Asegúrese de que la cadena no entrará encontacto con algún objeto mientras arranca elmotor. Nunca intente arrancar la sierracuando la espada guía está en un corte.
No ejerza presión sobre la sierra al final delcorte. Aplicar presión puede provocar quepierda el control al terminar el corte.
Detenga el motor antes de dejar la sierra.

La exposición a las vibraciones a través uso prolongado de herramientas de mano a gasolina puede causar daños a los vasos sanguíneos o los nervios de los dedos, las manos y las articulaciones de las personas propensas a o trastornos de la circulación y a las hinchazones anormales. El uso prolongado en condiciones de clima frío se ha relacionado con daños en los vasos sanguíneos en personas por lo demás sanas. Si se presentan síntomas como adormecimiento, dolor, pérdida de la fuerza, cambio en el color o la textura de la piel o pérdida de la sensibilidad en los dedos, las manos, o en las articulaciones, suspenda el uso de esta herramienta y busque atención médica. Un sistema de antivibración no garantiza la prevención de estos problemas. Los usuarios que utilizan herramientas motorizadas en forma continua y regular deben vigilar de cerca su condición física y el estado de las herramientas.
Con el motor parado, transporte la motosierra con el silenciador lejos de su cuerpo, y la espada y cadena guía hacia atrás, preferiblemente con una cubierta.
MANTENIMIENTO DE LA SIERRA

MANEJO DEL COMBUSTIBLE
No fume mientras manipula combustible o mientras opera la sierra.
Elimine todas las fuentes de chispas o llamas en las áreas donde se mezcla o vierte el combustible. No se debe fumar, tener llamas o realizar trabajos que puedan provocar chispas. Permita que el motor se enfríe antes de volver a llenar el tanque de combustible.
Siempre tenga un extintor de incendios disponible, por si fuera necesario.
Mezcle y vierta el combustible en una zona al aire libre sobre el suelo desnudo; almacene el combustible en un lugar fresco, seco y bien ventilado, y utilice un contenedor aprobado y etiquetado para todos los propósitos relacionados con el combustible. Limpie todos los derrames de combustible antes de arrancar la sierra.
Aléjese por lo menos 3 metros (10 pies) de distancia del sitio de preparación de combustible antes de arrancar el motor.
Apague el motor y deje que se enfríe en un área sin combustibles, no sobre hojas secas, paja, papel, etc. Lentamente quite la tapa de combustible y cargue la unidad.
Almacene la unidad y el combustible en un área donde los vapores del combustible no puedan llegar a las chispas o llamas abiertas de calentadores de agua, motores eléctricos o interruptores, hornos, etc.
COMPRENSIÓN DE LA RECULADA
ADVERTENCIA: Evite la reculada, que puede provocar daños graves. La reculada es un movimiento repentino, hacia atrás o hacia arriba de la espada guía que ocurre cuando la cadena de sierra cerca de la punta superior de la espada guía entra en contacto con objetos como troncos o ramas, o cuando la madera se cierra y aprieta la motosierra en el corte. El contacto con un objeto extraño en la madera también puede causar la pérdida de control de la motosierra.
Reculada Giratoria
La reculada giratoria puede ocurrir cuando la cadena móvil entra en contacto con un objeto en la punta superior de la espada guía. Este contacto puede causar que la cadena se

entierre en el objeto, lo que detiene la cadena por un instante. El resultado es una rapidísima reacción contraria, que lanza la espada guía hacia arriba y hacia atrás, hacia el operador.
Reculada De Aplastamiento
La reculada de aplastamiento puede ocurrir cuando la madera se cierra y aplasta la sierra en movimiento en el corte en la parte superior de la espada guía, y la sierra de cadena se detiene repentinamente. Esta súbita parada de la cadena tiene como resultado la inversión del impulso de la cadena utilizado para cortar madera y hace que la sierra se mueva en la dirección opuesta a la del giro de la cadena. La sierra se lanza en línea recta hacia atrás, hacia el operador.
Tiro
El tiro puede ocurrir cuando la cadena en movimiento entra en contacto con un objeto extraño en la madera en el corte a lo largo de la parte inferior de la espada guía y la cadena de sierra se detiene repentinamente. Esta súbita parada tira de la sierra hacia adelante y lejos del operador y fácilmente podría causar que el operador pierda el control de la sierra.
REDUCIR LA POSIBILIDAD DE RECULADA
Reconozca que la reculada puede ocurrir.Con una comprensión básica de la reculada,se puede reducir el elemento de sorpresaque contribuye a los accidentes.
Nunca deje que la cadena en movimientoentre en contacto con algún objeto en lapunta de la espada guía.
Mantenga el área de trabajo libre deobstáculos, como otros árboles, ramas,piedras, vallas, tocones, etc. Elimine o evitecualquier obstrucción que la cadena de sierrapodría golpear mientras está cortando.Cuando corta una rama, no deje que laespada guía entre en contacto con ramas uotros objetos a su alrededor.
Mantenga su cadena de sierra afilada y bientensada. Una cadena floja o desafiladapuede aumentar la posibilidad de la reculada.Siga las instrucciones de afilado ymantenimiento de cadena del fabricante.Revise la tensión en intervalos regulares conel motor parado, nunca con el motor enmarcha. Asegúrese de que las tuercas de laespada estén bien apretadas después detensar la cadena.
Comience y continúe cortando a todavelocidad. Si la cadena se mueve a unavelocidad más lenta, hay más posibilidadesde reculada.
Use cuñas de plástico o de madera. Nuncause metal para sujetar el corte.
Corte un tronco a la vez.
Sea extremadamente cuidadoso al volver aentrar a un corte previo.
No intente realizar cortes a partir de lapuntera de la espada (rehundir).
Tenga cuidado con los troncos inestables uotras fuerzas que puedan cerrar un corte yapretar la cadena o caer en ella.
No gire la sierra al retirar la espada deun corte inferior de segmentado.
Utilice la espada guía para reculada reduciday la cadena de baja reculada especificadaspara su sierra.
MANTENER EL CONTROL
Mantenga la sierraagarrada firmemente conambas manos cuando elmotor está en marcha yno la suelte. Un agarrefirme lo ayudará a reducirla reculada y mantener elcontrol de la sierra.Mantenga los dedos desu mano izquierda alrededor del manillar, y elpulgar izquierdo bajo la parte delantera deeste. Mantenga la mano derechacompletamente alrededor del mango trasero,sin importar si es diestro o zurdo. Mantengasu brazo izquierdo recto con el codo firme.
Coloque su mano izquierda en la partedelantera del manillar para que esté en unalínea recta con la mano derecha sobre elmango trasero para hacer cortes deseccionado. Nunca invierta la posición de susmanos para ningún tipo de corte.
Distribuya su peso de forma pareja entreambos pies.
Párese levemente haca la izquierda de lasierra para que su cuerpo no esté en unalínea directa con la cadena cortante.
No se estiredemasiado.Podría serarrastrado operder elequilibrio yperder elcontrol de lasierra.
No corte porencima de laaltura de loshombros. Es difícil mantener el control de lasierra por sobre la altura de los hombros.

CARACTERÍSTICAS DE SEGURIDAD PARA RECULADA
ADVERTENCIA: Las siguientes funciones se incluyen en la sierra para ayudar a reducir el riesgo de la reculada; sin embargo, estas características no eliminarán por completo este peligro. Como usuario de una motosierra, no confíe solamente en los dispositivos de seguridad. Debe seguir todas las precauciones de seguridad, instrucciones y mantenimiento incluidos en este manual para evitar la reculada y otras fuerzas que pueden causar daños graves.
Espada Guía De Reculada Reducida
La espada guía de reculada reducida se diseñó con una punta de radio pequeño que reduce el tamaño de la zona peligro de reculada en la puntera. Se ha demostrado de que la espada guía de reculada reduce de manera significativa la cantidad y la gravedad de reculadas al realizar pruebas en conformidad con los requisitos de seguridad para motosierras a gasolina según lo establecido por ANSI B175.1.
Cadena De Baja Reculada
La cadena de baja reculada se diseñó con un calibre de profundidad y un eslabón de protección contorneados que desvían la fuerza de la reculada y permiten que la madera pase gradualmente sobre la cortadora. La cadena de baja reculada cumple los requisitos de rendimiento al realizar pruebas en una muestra representativa de motosierras con un
desplazamiento inferior a 3,8 pulgadas cúbicas, según lo especificado en la norma ANSI B175.1.
Protección Contra Reculadas
La protección contra reculadas está diseñada para reducir la posibilidad de que su mano izquierda entre en contacto con la cadena si la mano se desliza desde la parte delantera del manillar.
La distancia y la posición "en línea" de las manos provistas por las empuñaduras delantera y trasera trabajan juntas para dar equilibrio y resistencia al controlar el pivote de la sierra hacia el operador ocurre una reculada.
Freno De Cadena
El del freno de cadena está diseñado para detener la cadena en el caso de reculada.
NOTA: No garantizamos, ni usted debe asumir, que el freno de la cadena lo protegerá en caso de una reculada. No dependa de los dispositivos integrados en la sierra. Usted debe usar la sierra correctamente y con cuidado para evitar la reculada.
Las reparaciones a la freno de cadena deben ser llevadas a cabo por Sears o un taller de servicio autorizado.
NOTA: Si esta sierra se utilizará para la tala con fines comerciales, se requiere un freno de cadena, que no se debe retirar ni desactivar de ninguna otra forma, para mantener el cumplimiento con los reglamentos federales de OSHA para la tala comercial.

El INTERRUPTOR DE INICIO/PARADA (8) está acostumbrado a detener la máquina.
El GATILLO DEL ACELERADOR (18) controla velocidad de máquina.
Es necesario apretar primero la BLOQUEO DEL ACELERADOR (16) para poder accionar el acelerador. Este dispositivo previene el acionamiento accidental del acelerador.
El cebador y la marcha lenta rapida son fijadas tirando la PALANCA DE ESTRANGULADOR/RALENTÍ RÁPIDO (9) completamente para arrancar el aparato en frío o después reaprovisionado de combustible.
La palanca del cebador provee combustible adicional al motor al arrancar frío.
El BULBO CEBADOR (BOMBA DE COMBUSTIBLE) (10) circula combustible al carburador.
El FRENO DE CADENA (3) está diseñado para detener la cadena en caso de reculada. El freno de cadena se activa automáticamente en caso de reculadas. El freno de cadena se activa manualmente si empujan al protector de mano delantero adelante. Para desactivar el freno de cadena, tire lo más posible del protector de mano delantero hacia la manija delantera.
ARMADO Si se recibe armada, repita todos los pasos para garantizar que su sierra está bien armada y que las fijaciones son seguras.
1. Verifique que el freno de cadena se encuentra en la posición de desbloqueo, tirando de la protección contra reculadas hacia el mango delantero.
2. Afloje y extraiga las tuercas de la espada yla cubierta del embrague de la sierra.
3. Retire el espaciador plástico de transporte(A) si está presente.
4. Se usan un pasador de ajuste y un tornillopara ajustar la tensión de la cadena. Es muyimportante al momento de montar la espadaque el pasador de ajuste que se encuentraen el tornillo de ajuste se alinee en unagujero en la espada. Al girar el tornillo semoverá el pasador de ajuste hacia arriba yhacia abajo del tornillo. Localice el pasadorde ajuste antes de comenzar a montar laespada en la sierra. Consulte la siguienteilustración.
5. Gire el tornillo de ajuste con la manoizquierda hasta que el pasador de ajusteesté situado entre el indicador (B) de lacubierta del embrague. Esto debe permitirque el pasador de ajuste esté cerca de laposición correcta.
6. Deslice la espada guía con cadena sobrelos tornillo de espada hasta que la espadaguía se detenga contra el tambor delembrague rueda dentada. Las cortadorasdeben estar orientadas en el sentido derotación.
7. Compruebe que los eslabones de arrastrede la cadena se quepan correctamente en elpiñón de arrastre y que la cadena está en laranura de la espada.
8. Coloque la tapa del embrague e inserte elpasador de ajuste en el corte de la espada.
9. Apriete la tuerca de la espada con losdedos.
10. Tense la cadena girando el tornillo detensado de cadena hacia la derecha usandola herramienta combinada. La cadena estácorrectamente tensada cuando no cuelga enla parte inferior de la espada, pero todavíase puede hacer girar fácilmente a mano.

11. Levante la puntera y apriete las tuercas dela espada con la herramienta combinada.
Cuando se monta una cadena nueva, la tensión de la cadena tiene que ser revisada con frecuencia hasta que la cadena esté en marcha. Compruebe la tensión de la cadena con regularidad. Una cadena correctamente tensada garantiza un buen rendimiento de corte y una larga vida útil.
ARRANQUE Y PARADA
INSPECCIÓN PREVIA A LA OPERACIÓN
Realice los pasos siguientes antes de cada uso de la máquina:

Compruebe el filo de la cadena
NOTA: El afilado de la cadena es una tarea complicada que requiere herramientas especiales. Le recomendamos que deje que un afilador de cadenas profesional se encargue del afilado de la cadena.

NOTA: Es normal que haya una pequeña cantidad de aceite bajo la sierra después de que el motor se detenga. Esto no se debe confundir con una fuga de aceite del depósito.
ABASTECIMIENTO DEL MOTOR
ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese de leer la información de control de combustible en la sección normas de seguridad de este manual antes de empezar. Si no comprende la información de manejo de combustible, no intente cargar su unidad. Busque la ayuda de alguien que comprenda la información o llame al teléfono de asistencia al consumidor.
ADVERTENCIA: Quite la tapa de combustible lentamente cuando llene el tanque de combustible.
Este equipo está diseñado para funcionar con gasolina sin plomo de 87 octanos mínimo (método R+M/2), mezclado con etanol hasta un 10 % en volumen (E-10).
Antes de la operación, la gasolina debe ser mezclada con un aceite del motor completamente sintético refrigerado por aire de 2 ciclos de buena calidad, diseñado para mezclarse en una proporción de 50:1.
Se obtiene la proporción de 50:1 mezclando 2.6 onzas de líquido de aceite completamente sintético con 1 galón de gasolina sin plomo. NO UTILICE aceite automotriz o para barcos. Estos aceites producen daños en el motor.
Cuando mezcle el combustible, siga las instrucciones impresas en el envase. Una vez que agregue el aceite a la gasolina, agite el recipiente por unos segundos para asegurar que el combustible esté bien mezclado.
Llene completamente el depósito de combustible con el combustible mezclado adecuado.
Siempre lea y siga las normas de seguridad con respecto al combustible antes de abastecer su unidad.
Compre combustible en cantidades que se puedan usar en 30 días para garantizar que no esté viejo al usarlo.
SUGERENCIA ÚTIL
Durante el almacenamiento de la mezcla de combustible, el aceite se separará de la gasolina.
Agite el recipiente de combustible semanalmente para asegurar la mezcla apropiada de gasolina y aceite.

AVISO: Nunca use gasolina pura en la unidad. Esto causará daños permanentes al motor. Y anulará la garantía limitada.
AVISO: No utilice combustibles alternativos como mezclas de etanol superiores al 10 % en volumen (E-15, E-85) o cualquier combustible mezclado con metanol. El uso de estos combustibles puede causar importantes problemas de rendimiento del motor y anular la garantía limitada.
LUBRICACIÓN DE LA ESPADA Y CADENA
La espada y cadena requieren una lubricación continua. La lubricación es proporcionada por el sistema de lubricación automático cuando el depósito de aceite está lleno. La falta de aceite causará que la espada y la cadena se arruinen rápidamente. Muy poco aceite causará sobrecalentamiento, que se demostrará por el humo procedente de la cadena y/o la decoloración de la espada. En los climas fríos el aceite se espesa, por lo que es necesario adelgazar el aceite de espada y cadena con una pequeña cantidad (entre un 5 y un 10 %) de combustible diésel o queroseno #1. El aceite de espada y cadena debe fluir libremente para que el sistema bombee suficiente aceite para lograr una lubricación adecuada.
Si no hay aceite para espada y cadena, use un aceite de grado SAE 30 de buena calidad.
Llene el depósito de aceite completamente con aceite.
AVISO: Nunca utilice aceite residual para la lubricación de la espada y la cadena.
AVISO: Siempre pare el motor antes de quitar el tapón de aceite.
POSICIÓN INICIAL
1. Coloque la motosierra sobre una superficie plana. El equipo de corte no debe estar en contacto con el suelo.
2. Bloquee el freno de cadena empujando hacia adelante en el guardamanos.
3. Coloque la mano izquierda sobre el manillar y la mano derecha en la cuerda de arranque. Empuje el mango trasero con el pie derecho para estabilizar la motosierra.
4. Siga las instrucciones de arranque.
PARADA DE LA CADENA
Para detener la cadena, suelte el gatillo del acelerador. La cadena dejará de moverse, pero el motor continuará funcionando.
Espere hasta que la cadena se haya detenido completamente antes de colocar la motosierra o transportarla a otra ubicación.
ADVERTENCIA: ¡NUNCA toque la cadena si todavía se está moviendo! Incluso una cadena de movimiento muy lento puede infligir graves cortes en las manos y los dedos.
PARADA DEL MOTOR
Presione el interruptor de parada rojo para detener el motor.
ARRANQUE
Siga estas instrucciones para arrancar su motosierra. La motosierra tiene una etiqueta de recordatorio de arranque similar a la que se muestra a continuación:
Arrancar Un Motor Frío
Asegúrese de que el freno de cadena esté bloqueado antes de empezar.
Presione el bulbo cebador (bomba de combustible) 10 veces hasta que el combustible comience a llenarlo. No es necesario que el bulbo cebador (bomba de combustible) se llene por completo.
Tire de la palanca del estrangulador azul a la posición de ESTRANGULAMIENTO COMPLETO. El interruptor rojo ENCENDIDO/PARADA se debe colocar automáticamente en la posición de ENCENDIDO.
Con su mano derecha, tire la cuerda de arranque hasta que la máquina intente arrancar o un máximo de 5 veces.
NOTA: Esta unidad cuenta con un sistema de arranque SIMPUL+. No tiene que jalar brusca ni enérgicamente del mango de la cuerda de arranque.
NOTA: Si el motor suena como si tratara de arrancar antes tirar por quinta vez, deje de tirar y pase de inmediato a la etapa siguiente.
NOTA: No intente cortar materiales con la palanca de estrangulamiento/ralentí en la posición de ESTRANGULACIÓN COMPLETA.
Empuje la palanca del estrangulador azul a la posición de ESTRANGULACIÓN MEDIA.
NOTA: En temperaturas por encima de los 90 °F (32 °C), empuje la palanca del estrangulador azul completamente.
Tire con fuerza de la cuerda de arranque con la mano derecha hasta que el motor arranque.

Deje que el motor se caliente por 30 segundos.
Empuje la palanca del estrangulador azul completamente.
Antes de acelerar al máximo, tirela protección contra reculadas hacia el mango delantero. El del freno de cadena ya está desbloqueado. La motosierra ya está lista para ser utilizada.
ADVERTENCIA: La cadena no debe moverse cuando el motor funciona al régimen de ralentí. Si la cadena se mueve al régimen de ralentí, consulte AJUSTE DEL CARBURADOR en este manual.
ADVERTENCIA: No intente arrancar la motosierra lanzándola o dejándola caer. Si lo hace, el operador se arriesga daños graves debido a la pérdida de control de la motosierra.
ADVERTENCIA: El silenciador está muy caliente durante y después de su uso. No toque el silenciador ni permita que entre en contacto con materiales combustibles tales como la hierba seca o el combustible.
SUGERENCIA ÚTIL
Si el motor todavía no arranca después de seguir las instrucciones, comuníquese con asistencia al cliente.
Arrancar Un Motor Caliente
Asegúrese de que el freno de cadena esté bloqueado antes de empezar.
Presione el bulbo cebador (bomba de combustible) 10 veces hasta que el combustible comience a llenarlo. No es necesario que el bulbo cebador (bomba de combustible) se llene por completo.
Tire de la palanca del estrangulador azul a la posición de ESTRANGULAMIENTO COMPLETO. El interruptor rojo ENCENDIDO/PARADA se debe colocar automáticamente en la posición de ENCENDIDO.

Para solucionar este problema, intente el siguiente procedimiento:
1. Coloque el producto en un área fresca alejada de la luz directa del sol.
2. Deje que el producto se enfríe durante al menos 20 minutos.
3. Presione el bulbo cebador (purga de aire) repetidamente durante 10 a 15 segundos.
4. Siga el procedimiento de arranque en frío.
Repita este procedimiento si el problema persiste.
NOTA: Siempre utilice combustible estacional y reduzca el tiempo de funcionamiento durante climas inusualmente cálidos.
Arrancar Un Motor Ahogado
El motor puede inundarse con demasiado combustible si no arranca tras tirar 10 veces.
Los motores inundados se pueden reiniciar empujando completamente la palanca de estrangulamiento azul a la posición ESTRANGULAMIENTO DESACTIVADO y luego siguiendo el procedimiento de arranque de motor caliente. Asegúrese de que el interruptor rojo ENCENDIDO/APAGADO esté en la posición de ENCENDIDO.
El arranque podría requerir tirar la cuerda de arranque muchas veces, dependiendo del nivel de inundación de la unidad. Si el motor no arranca, consulte la TABLA DE RESOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS o llame a la línea de ayuda al consumidor.
TENSIÓN DE CADENA
Es normal que una cadena nueva se estire durante los primeros 15 minutos de funcionamiento. Debe verificar su tensión de cadena cada vez que arranque la motosierra. Consulte las instrucciones tensión de la cadena en la sección de ARMADO.
ADVERTENCIA: Si la sierra se opera con una cadena floja, esta podría saltar de la espada guía y causar daños graves al operador y/o a la cadena, dejándola inservible.

COMPROBACIÓN DEL FRENO DE CADENA
El freno de cadena se debe revisar antes de cada uso. El motor debe estar en marcha para realizar este procedimiento.
Este es el único caso en que la sierra debe colocarse en el suelo con el motor en marcha.
1. Coloque la sierra sobre tierra firme.
2. Agarre el mango trasero con la mano derecha y el mango delantero con la mano izquierda.
3. Aplique el acelerador al máximo pisando a fondo el gatillo del acelerador.
4. Active el freno de cadena girando la muñeca de la mano izquierda hacia la protección de manos sin soltar el mango delantero. La cadena debe detenerse de inmediato.
COMPROBACIÓN DEL CONTROL DE FUNCIÓN DE ACTIVACIÓN POR INERCIA
ADVERTENCIA: Para realizar el siguiente procedimiento, el motor debe estar apagado.
1. Agarre el mango trasero con la mano derecha y el mango delantero con la mano izquierda.
2. Sostenga la motosierra aproximadamente 40 a 45 cm (16 a 18 pulgadas) por encima de un tocón u otra superficie de madera.
3. Suelte el mango delantero y use el peso de la sierra para que la puntera de la espada caiga hacia adelante y entre en contacto con el tocón. Cuando la puntera de la espada golpee el tocón, se debe activar el freno.
TÉCNICAS DE TRABAJO
PRACTICAR LOS CORTES
Practique cortando troncos pequeños usando las siguientes técnicas para acostumbrarse a usar su sierra antes de comenzar una operación de sierra mayor.
Apriete el gatillo del acelerador y deje que el motor alcance la velocidad máxima antes de cortar.
Comience a cortar con el marco de la sierra contra el tronco.
Mantenga el motor a su velocidad máxima durante todo el tiempo en que esté cortando.
Permita que la cadena corte por usted. Ejerza solo una ligera presión hacia abajo. Si fuerza el corte, puede causar daño a la espada, a la cadena o al motor.
Suelte el gatillo del acelerador tan pronto como complete el corte, lo que permite que el motor entre en ralentí. Si pasa la sierra en plena aceleración sin una carga de corte, puede producirse un desgaste innecesario en la cadena, la espada y el motor. Se recomienda no operar el motor por más de 30 segundos con el acelerador al máximo.
Para evitar perder el control cuando se haya completado el corte, no ejerza presión en la sierra al final del corte.
Detenga el motor antes de dejar la sierra después de cortar.
TALAR UN ÁRBOL
Planificación
ADVERTENCIA: Compruebe que no hayan ramas rotas o muertas que puedan caer durante el corte y causar daños graves. No corte cerca de edificios o cables eléctricos si no sabe en qué dirección caerá el árbol, ni corte de noche, ya que no podrá ver bien, ni durante el mal tiempo, como la lluvia, nieve o fuertes vientos, etc. Si el árbol entra en contacto con cualquier línea de servicios públicos, debe notificar a la empresa correspondiente de inmediato.
Planifique cuidadosamente la operación de sierra de antemano.
Despeje el área de trabajo. Se necesita un área limpia alrededor del árbol para poder pisar con seguridad.
El operador de la motosierra debe mantenerse en el lado de terreno en subida ya que es probable que el árbol ruede o se deslice hacia abajo tras ser cortado.
Estudie las condiciones naturales que pueden causar que el árbol caiga en una dirección en particular.
Las condiciones naturales que pueden causar que un árbol caiga en una dirección en particular incluyen:
La dirección y la velocidad del viento.
La inclinación del árbol. La inclinación del árbol puede no ser aparente debido a terrenos irregulares o con pendientes. Utilice

una plomada o un nivel para determinar la dirección de la inclinación del árbol.
El peso y las ramas en un lado.
Los árboles y los obstáculos a su alrededor.
Busque si hay deterioro y podredumbre. Si el tronco está podrido, puede romperse y caen hacia el operador. Compruebe que no esté roto o que no hayan ramas muertas que puedancaer sobre usted durante el corte.
Asegúrese de que haya suficiente espacio para que caiga el árbol. Mantenga una distancia de unas 2 y media veces la longitud del árboles desde la persona u objeto más cercanos. El ruido del motor puede ocultar un llamado de atención.
Retire la suciedad, las piedras sueltas, la corteza, los clavos, las grapas y el alambre del árbol que va a cortar.
Planee una ruta de escape clara hacia atrás y en diagonal a la línea de caída. Anote la zona de peligro (1), la ruta de escape (2) y la dirección de la tala (3) en el siguiente diagrama.

Usar El Método De Muesca
El método de muesca se usa para talar árboles altos. Se corta una muesca en el lado del árbol en la dirección de caída deseada. Después de realizar un corte de derribo en el lado opuesto del árbol, el árbol tiende a caer en la muesca.
NOTA: Si el árbol tiene grandes raíces, retírelas antes de hacer la muesca. Si usa una sierra para extraer raíces, evite que la cadena de sierra entre en contacto con el suelo para que la cadena pierda su filo.
Haga el corte de muesca cortando la parte superior de la muesca primero. Corte 1/3 del diámetro del árbol. Luego complete el corte de la muesca en la parte inferior de la muesca. Cuando termine de cortar la muesca, extraiga la muesca de madera del árbol.
Tras extraer la madera de la muesca, haga el corte de derribo en el lado opuesto de la muesca. Esto se realiza haciendo un corte de aproximadamente 5 cm (2 pulgadas) por sobre el centro de la muesca. Esto dejará suficiente madera sin cortar entre el corte de derribo y la muesca para formar una bisagra. Esta bisagra le ayudará a evitar que el árbol caiga en la dirección equivocada.
NOTA: Antes de terminar el corte de derribo, use cuñas para abrir el corte si es necesario para controlar la dirección de la caída. Para evitar reculadas y daños a la cadena, utilice cuñas de plástico o de madera, pero nunca cuñas acero o de hierro.
Esté atento a las señales de que el árbol está a punto de caer: crujidos, ensanchamiento del corte de derribo o movimiento de las ramas superiores.
A medida que el árbol comienza a caer, detenga la sierra, déjela y aléjese rápidamente por su ruta de escape planificada.
NO tale un árbol caído parcialmente con la sierra. Sea muy cauteloso con los árboles parcialmente caídos que pueden tener un mal soporte. Cuando un árbol no se cae por completo, deje la sierra y tire hacia abajo del árbol con un malacate para cables, aparejos, o un tractor.
CORTAR UN ÁRBOL CAÍDO (SEGMENTACIÓN)
"Segmentación" es el término que se utiliza para cortar un árbol caído al tamaño de tronco deseado.

ADVERTENCIA: No se coloque directamente sobre el tronco que va a cortar. Cualquier parte puede rodar y causar la pérdida del equilibrio y del control. No se coloque hacia abajo en la pendiente con respecto al tronco que va a cortar.
Aspectos Importantes
Corte un solo tronco a la vez.
Corte la madera destrozada con mucho cuidado; pueden saltar trozos filosos de madera hacia el operador.
Utilice un caballete para cortar troncos pequeños. Nunca permita que otra persona sostenga el tronco mientras lo corta y nunca sostenga el tronco con su pierna o pie.
No corte en un área en el que estén enredados los troncos, las ramas y las raíces, como en un área de derribo por explosión. Arrastre los troncos a un área despejada antes de cortarlos sacando primero los troncos expuestos y limpios.
Asegúrese de que la cadena no golpee el suelo o ningún otro objeto durante o después de cortar.
ADVERTENCIA: Si la sierra se queda atrapada o colgada en un tronco, no trate de sacarla a la fuerza. Puede perder el control de la sierra, lo que puede dar lugar a lesiones y/o daños en la sierra. Detenga la sierra, coloque una cuña de plástico o de madera en el corte hasta que la sierra se pueda sacar fácilmente. Reinicie la sierra y cuidadosamente vuelva a introducirla en el corte. Para evitar las reculadas y el daño a la cadena, no utilice una cuña de metal. No intente volver a arrancar la sierra cuando se encuentre atrapada o colgada en un tronco.
Tipos De Cortes De Segmentación
Corte superior comienza en la parte superior del tronco con la parte inferior de la sierra contra el tronco. Cuando realice cortes superiores, aplique una leve presión hacia abajo.
Corte inferior involucra realizar un corte en la parte inferior del tronco con la parte superior de la sierra contra el tronco. Cuando realice cortes inferiores, aplique una presión leve hacia arriba. Sostenga firmemente la sierra y mantenga el control. La sierra tenderá a empujar hacia atrás.
ADVERTENCIA: Nunca gire la sierra de cabeza para realizar un corte inferior. La sierra no se puede controlar en esa posición.
Siempre realice su primer corte en el lado comprimido del tronco. El lado comprimido del tronco es donde se concentra la presión del peso del tronco.
Segmentar Sin Soporte
1. Realice un corte superior hasta 1/3 del diámetro del tronco.
2. Ruede el tronco y termine con un segundo corte superior.
NOTA: Tenga cuidado con los troncos con un lado comprimido, para evitar que se aplaste la sierra.
Segmentar Usando Un Tronco O Un Soporte
1. Realice el primer corte en el lado comprimido del tronco. El primer corte debe abarcar 1/3 del diámetro del tronco.
2. Termine con el segundo corte.

DESRAMADO Y PODA
ADVERTENCIA: Manténgase alerta y cuídese de la reculada. No permita que la cadena en movimiento entre en contacto con cualquier otra ramas u objeto en la nariz de la espada guía cuando desrama o poda. Este tipo de contacto puede provocar daños graves.
ADVERTENCIA: Nunca se suba a un árbol para desramar o podar. No se suba a escaleras, plataformas, troncos o se pare en cualquier posición que pueda hacerle perder el equilibrio o el control de la sierra.
Aspectos Importantes
Trabaje lentamente, sosteniendo firmementela sierra con ambas manos. Asegúrese de pisar con seguridad y mantener el equilibrio.
Tenga cuidado con los lazos. Los lazos sonextremidades pequeñas que pueden atraparla cadena y lanzarla hacia usted o hacerleperder el equilibrio. Sea extremadamentecuidadoso al cortar extremidadeso materiales delgados.
Tenga cuidado con los lazos. Tenga cuidadocon las ramas dobladas o que están bajopresión. Evite ser golpeado por ramas o porla sierra cuando se libere la tensión en lasfibras de la madera.
Mantenga una zona de trabajo despejada.Saque las ramas del área frecuentementepara evitar tropezarse con ellas.
Desramado
Siempre corte las extremidades de un árbol después de talarlo. Solo entonces se puede desramar de forma segura y adecuada.
Deje las extremidades más grandes bajo el árbol talado para brindar soporte al árbol mientras trabaja.
Empiece en la base del árbol talado y trabaje hacia la parte superior, cortando las ramas y las extremidades. Eliminar las extremidades pequeñas con un corte.
Mantenga el árbol entre usted y la cadena. Corte desde el lado opuesto del árbol a la rama que está cortando.
Retire las ramas más grandes y de apoyo con las técnicas de corte descritas en SEGMENTACIÓN SIN SOPORTE.
Utilice siempre un corte superior para cortar extremidades pequeñas y colgantes. Si se usa un corte inferior para las extremidades, estas pueden caer y aplastar la sierra.
Poda
ADVERTENCIA: Limite la poda de extremidades a la altura de los hombros o inferior. No corte las ramas que seencuentran por sobre el nivel de sushombros. Haga que un profesionalrealice el trabajo.
1. Realice el primer corte un tercio del caminoa la parte inferior de la extremidad.
2. Realice el segundo corte hasta terminarde cortar a través de la extremidad.
3. Realice un tercer corte superior dejando unespacio de 2,5 a 5 cm (1 a 2 pulgadas)desde el tronco del árbol.
MANTENIMIENTO
ADVERTENCIA: Desconecte la bujía antes de realizar el mantenimiento, excepto para los ajustes del carburador.
RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES

AFILACION DE LA CADENA
ADVERTENCIA:: Las técnicas de afilado de la cadena y/o el mantenimiento del marcador de profundidad incorrectos aumentan las probabilidades de reculadas, que pueden producir lesiones graves.
ADVERTENCIA:: Use guantes protectores al manejar la cadena. La cadena tiene filo y podría causarle graves cortaduras, aun cuando ésta no se encuentre en movimiento.
Condiciones que indican la necesidad de afilar la cadena:
Reducción del tamaño de las astillas de madera. El tamaño de las astillas de madera se reduce a medida que la cadena se desafila, hasta volverse más un polvo que una astilla. Observe que la madera muerta o podrida no produce una buena astilla.
La sierra corta de lado o en ángulo.
La sierra debe ser forzada a través del corte.
Herramientas necesarias:
Lima redonda de 5/32 de pulgada (4 mm) de diámetro y soporte para lima
Lima plana
Herramienta marcadora de profundidad
Para afilar la cadena:
1. Mueva el interruptor ON/STOP a la posición STOP.
2. Verifique la tensión correcta de la cadena. Ajústela si es necesario. Vea la sección TENSIÓN DE LA CADENA.
3. Afile las cuchillas.
Para afilar las cuchillas, ubique el nivel del soporte de la lima (90°) de modo que se apoye sobre los bordes superiores de la cuchilla y el marcador de profundidad.
AVISO: La cadena tiene cuchillas del lado izquierdo y del lado derecho.
Alinee las marcas de 30° del soporte para lima, paralelas a la barra y al centro de la cadena.
Afile primero las cuchillas de un lado de la cadena. Lime desde el interior de cada cuchilla hacia el exterior. Después, gire la sierra de cadena y repita el proceso en el otro lado de la cadena.
Lime sólo el golpe de avance; use 2 o 3 golpes por borde de corte.
Mantenga todas las cuchillas de la misma longitud cuando las lima.
Lime lo suficiente como para eliminar cualquier daño en los bordes de corte (placa lateral y placa superior de la cuchilla).

Lime la cadena según las especificaciones,tal como se ilustra.
ADVERTENCIA:: Mantenga el ángulo de gancho correcto de acuerdo con las especificaciones del fabricante de la cadena que usa. Si el ángulo del gancho es incorrecto, aumentan las probabilidades de reculadas, que pueden producir lesiones graves.
4. Verifique y baje los marcadores deprofundidad.
Coloque la herramienta marcadora sobre lacuchilla.
Si el marcador de profundidad es más altoque la herramienta marcadora deprofundidad, límelo para nivelarlo con laparte superior de la herramienta marcadora.
Mantenga redondeada la esquina delanteradel marcador de profundidad con una limaplana.
AVISO: El extremo superior del marcador de profundidad debe ser parejo con la mitad delantera, redondeada con una lima plana.
ESPADA GUÍA
Condiciones que requieren mantenimiento de la espada guía:
La sierra corta hacia un lado o en un ángulo.
Fue necesario ejercer presión sobre la sierrapara realizar el corte.
Suministro de aceite insuficiente para laespada/cadena.
Verifique la condición de la espada guía cada vez que afile la cadena. Una espada guía desgastada dañará la cadena y hará que sea difícil cortar.
Después de cada uso, asegúrese de que el interruptor de ENCENDIDO/PARADA esté en la posición PASADA y luego limpie todo el aserrín de la espada guía y el orificio del piñón.
Para mantener la espada guía:
1. Mueva el interruptor deENCENDIDO/PARADA a PARADA.
2. Afloje y quite las tuercas y la tapa delembrague. Quite la espada y la cadena de lasierra.
3. Limpie los agujeros de aceite (A) y laespada ranura (B).
4. El biselado de la espada guía es un procesonormal de desgaste de carril. Retire estaslas rebabas con una lija plana.
5. Cuando la parte superior del carril estadesnivelado, use una lija plana pararestaurar los bordes y lados cuadrados.
Reemplace la espada guía cuando la ranura esté desgastada, la espada guía está doblada o agrietada, o cuando ocurre un exceso de calefacción o rebaba en los carriles. Si es necesario reemplazarla, use solo la espada guía especificada para su sierra en las listas de piezas de reparación o en la etiqueta ubicada en la motosierra.
INSPECCIONAR Y LIMPIAR LA UNIDAD Y LAS ETIQUETAS
Después de cada uso, inspeccione la unidad completa para detectar piezas sueltas o dañadas. Limpie la unidad y las etiquetas con un paño humedecido con un detergente suave.
Limpie la unidad con un paño limpio y seco.
Compruebe el freno de cadena
Consulte FRENO DE CADENA en la sección OPERACIÓN.

SILENCIADOR
A medida que se usa la unidad, se acumulan depósitos de carbono en el silenciador y la pantalla anti chispas, y se debe limpiar para evitar la creación de un riesgo de incendio o que afecte el rendimiento del motor.
Reemplace la pantalla anti chispas si se producen daños.
1. Afloje y retire la tuerca (A) de la salida de los gases de escape (B).
2. Retire la cubierta de salida de escape.
3. Retire la pantalla anti chispas (C). Manipule la pantalla con cuidado para evitar daños.
4. Limpie la pantalla anti chispas suavemente con un cepillo de alambre. Reemplace pantalla si encuentra daños.
5. Reemplace cualquier pieza del silenciador rota o agrietada.
6. Vuelva a instalar la pantalla anti chispas, la cubierta de la salida de escape y la tuerca. Apriete la tuerca de forma segura a 25 a 35 pulg/libra.
BUJÍA
NOTA: Para los modelos vendidos en Canadá, el sistema de encendido por chispa cumple con la norma canadiense ICES-002.
1. Afloje los tres tornillos (A) de la tapa del cilindro (B).
2. Quite la tapa del cilindro.
3. Saque la bujía (C).
4. Retire las bujías (D) del cilindro y deséchelas.
5. Instale una bujía nueva y apriétela de forma segura con una llave de cubo de 3/4 de pulgada (19 mm) a 15 a 25 pies/libras. La separación de las bujías debe ser de 0,6 mm (0,025 pulgadas).
6. Vuelva a colocar la bujía.
7. Vuelva a colocar la tapa del cilindro y los tres tornillos. Apriete firmemente a 13 a 18 pulg./libra.
FILTRO DE COMBUSTIBLE
Para reemplazar el filtro de combustible, vacíe su unidad usándola hasta que se consuma todo el combustible. Quite el tapón de combustible y su sujetador conectado al depósito. Retire el filtro del depósito y retire de la línea. Reemplácelo y vuelva a armarlo.
FILTRO DE AIRE
AVISO: No limpie el filtro con gasolina u otro disolvente inflamable, para evitar crear un riesgo de incendio o producir emisiones de evaporación.
Un filtro de aire sucio reduce la vida útil y el rendimiento del motor y aumenta el consumo de combustible y las emisiones de los gases de escape. Siempre limpie el filtro de aire según el programa de mantenimiento. Limpie más frecuentemente en condiciones de polvo.
Un filtro de aire usado nunca se puede limpiar completamente. Aconsejamos sustituir el filtro de aire por uno nuevo según el programa de mantenimiento.
1. Afloje los tres tornillos (A) de la tapa del cilindro (B).
2. Quite la tapa del cilindro.
3. Quite la tapa del filtro de aire (C) y el filtro de aire (D).
4. Limpie el filtro de aire con agua caliente y jabón. Enjuague con agua limpia y fresca. Seque completamente antes de reinstalar.
5. Vuelva a instalar el filtro de aire y su cubierta.
6. Vuelva a colocar la tapa del cilindro y tres tornillos. Apriete firmemente a 13 a 18 pulg./libra.

AJUSTE DEL CARBURADOR
ADVERTENCIA: La cadena se moverá durante la mayor parte de este procedimiento. Use su equipo de protección y observe todas las precauciones de seguridad. La cadena no debe moverse al régimen de ralentí.
Indicaciones para corrección del régimen de ralentí
El carburador se configuró cuidadosamente en la fábrica. Pueden ser necesarios ajustes si nota cualquiera de las siguientes condiciones:

Ajuste del régimen de ralentí-T
Deje el motor al ralentí. Si la cadena se mueve, el régimen de ralentí es demasiado rápido. Si el motor se detiene o cala, el régimen de ralentí es demasiado lento.
Ajuste la velocidad hasta que el motor funcione sin movimiento de la cadena (ralentí demasiado rápido) o calado (ralentí demasiado lento).
El tornillo del régimen de ralentí se encuentra en la zona de arriba del bulbo de cebado (bomba de combustible) y está etiquetado con una "T".
Gire el tornillo de ralentí (T) hacia la derecha para aumentar la velocidad del motor.
Gire el tornillo de ralentí (T) hacia la izquierda para disminuir la velocidad del motor.
ALMACENAMIENTO
ADVERTENCIA: Detenga el motor y permita que se enfríe. Fije la unidad antes de almacenarla o transportarla en un vehículo. Almacene la unidad y el combustible en un área donde los vapores del combustible no puedan llegar a chispas o llamas abiertas de calentadores de agua, motores eléctricos o interruptores, hornos, etc.
ADVERTENCIA: Almacene la unidad con todas las protecciones en funcionamiento. Ordene los objetos de modo que los objetos puntiagudos no puedan causar daños accidentales a los transeúntes. Almacene la unidad fuera del alcance de los niños.
Antes de guardarla, vacíe todo elcombustible de la unidad. Arranque el motory déjelo en funcionamiento hasta que elcombustible se agote por completo.
Limpie la unidad antes de almacenar. Presteespecial atención a la zona de admisión deaire, manteniéndola libre de suciedad. Useun detergente suave y una esponja paralimpiar las superficies de plástico.
Asegúrese de que la máquina esté limpia yde realizar un mantenimiento completo antesde su almacenamiento a largo plazo.
La espada guía y la cadena deben estarcubiertas con una funda para transportar lamáquina o almacenarla para evitar uncontacto accidental con la afilada cadena.Incluso una cadena que no está enmovimiento puede causar heridas graves austed u a otras personas que estén encontacto con una cadena expuesta.
AVISO: Es importante evitar la formación de depósitos de goma en piezas del sistema de combustible esenciales, como el carburador, el filtro de combustible, la manguera de combustible o el tanque de combustible durante el almacenamiento. Los combustibles mezclados con alcohol (llamados gasohol) o con etanol o metanol puede atraer lahumedad, lo cual produce la separaciónde la mezcla de combustible y la formaciónde ácidos durante el almacenamiento. El gasácido puede dañar el motor.

SOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS
ADVERTENCIA: Siempre debe detener la unidad y desconectar la bujía antes de realizar las soluciones recomendadas a continuación, excepto los recursos que requieren el funcionamiento de la unidad.
PROBLEMA: El motor no arranca o funciona solo por unos segundos después de arrancar.
CAUSA SOLUCIÓN
1. Interruptor de encendido en la posición de apagado. Consulte "ARRANQUE" en la sección ARRANQUE Y PARADA.
2. Motor ahogado Consulte "Arranque de un motor ahogado" en la sección OPERACIÓN.
3. Depósito de combustible vacío. Llene el depósito con la mezcla de combustible adecuada. Consulte "ABASTECIMIENTO DEL MOTOR" en la sección ARRANQUE Y PARADA.

PROBLEMA: El motor no funciona en ralentí correctamente.
CAUSA SOLUCIÓN
1. Ajuste el régimen de ralentí. Vea "AJUSTE DEL CARBURADOR" en la sección de MANTENIMIENTO.
2. Ajuste el carburador. Póngase en contacto con Sears o un taller de servicio autorizado.
PROBLEMA: El motor no se acelera, le falta potencia, o se para bajo una carga de trabajo.
CAUSA SOLUCIÓN
1. Filtro de aire sucio. Limpie o reemplace el filtro de aire.
2. Bujía sucia. Limpie o reemplace la bujía y reconfigure el espacio de la bujía.
3. Freno de cadena bloqueado. Desbloqueo del freno de cadena. Consulte "POSICIÓN INICIAL" en la sección ARRANQUE Y PARADA.
4. Ajuste el carburador. Póngase en contacto con Sears o un taller de servicio autorizado.
PROBLEMA: El motor humea demasiado.
CAUSA SOLUCIÓN
1. Demasiado aceite mezclado con gasolina. Vacíe el depósito de combustible y llénelo con la mezcla de combustible adecuada.
PROBLEMA: La cadena se mueve a velocidad de ralentí.
CAUSA SOLUCIÓN
1. Ajuste el régimen de ralentí. 2. Repare el embrague.

DATOS TÉCNICOS El ángulo de reculada calculado (CKA) que aparecen en la sierra y que se indica en el cuadro CKA a continuación representa el ángulo de reculada que presentarán las combinaciones de espadas y cadenas al realizar pruebas con en conformidad con CSA (Canadian Standards Association) y los estándares de ANSI. Cuando compra una espada y cadena de repuesto, debe considerar los valores CKA menores. Los valores CKA inferiores representan ángulos más seguros para el usuario, mientras que los valores más altos indican un mayor ángulo y energías de golpe superiores. Los ángulos calculados representados indican el total de la energía y el ángulo asociado sin la activación del freno de cadena durante la reculada. El ángulo activado representa el tiempo de parada relativo con el ángulo de activación de la ruptura de cadena y el ángulo de golpe resultante de la sierra. En todos los casos, los valores CKA inferiores representan un entorno operativo más seguro para el usuario.
Las siguientes combinaciones de espada y cadena cumplen los requisitos de reculada de los estándares de CSA Z62.1, Z62.3 y ANSI B175.1 cuando se utilizan en las sierras indicadas en este manual. No se recomienda el uso de las combinaciones de espada y cadena distintas a las enumeradas y puede no cumplir los requisitos del estándar de CKA.
