This term Year 6 are spending time coding microbits to do various different jobs with algorithms. A micro bit is a pocket sized computer 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original BBC Micro computers used in schools. It has 25 red LED lights that can flash messages and can be used to create games. On Tuesday 14 January, we aimed to code the microbits to flash re-petitively when button A was pressed to make it do what a lighthouse would do. Once we had achieved that, we made a foghorn noise and set it so that it would go on when button B was pressed. We used the crocodile clips to connect everything together to make it work.

Police Safety Assembly — Stop, Look, Listen, Live Three members of Callington Police Neighbourhood Team visited the school on Wednesday to give the children a road safety awareness presentation. We are all aware of how busy the roads are around the village at drop off and pick up times, and how many parents park irresponsibly on kerbside corners preventing clear vision for the children to cross roads. There was a near miss a few months ago outside the school gates, so the children were reminded not to rush out of car doors and run across roads without looking first.

There’s still time to come along to the FREE robotics course run by Ian Barnes from

Cornwall Learning, Tuesday 1pm—3pm. This is an informal session for parents who will

be taught all about coding and how to write simple computer programs to control

equipment such as robotic cars, lights and sensors. It’s hands-on and fun to learn a new

skill which you can then share with your children who join the session for the last 30

minutes. Ian guides you through the activities at your own pace so no prior experience

necessary. Come along on Tuesday and give it a go!
