Baz Luhrmann’s name on this production should alone spark certain imagery. Many are in shock that this classic could be made in 3D, having read the book and expect-ing an entirely different style. However, Luhrmann has never been about the subtle scenery. With his previous movie, Moulin Rouge, in our minds, we can previous movie, Moulin Rouge, in our minds, we can expect pizzazz, zooming shots, and vivacious parties and dancing. Although some may not agree with the focus of the movie (the book is about much more than wild flapper parties at Gatsby’s mansion),it may not be the 3D that is the issue. Luhrmann has a style, and 3D is right up his ally. It’s really up to the viewer’s particular taste as to whether this movie will be successful.Successful in its director’s eyes could be quite a bit more colorful world than the Gatsby we saw in the 1974 version.
