KEY QUESTIONS ?• Can ‘illiterate’ mothers of children in poor countries taught to be literate and numerate through simple, community-based literacy classes?

• Can teaching ‘illiterate’ mothers how to read and interpret numbers result in improved learning outcomes for children?

• Can teaching ‘illiterate’ mothers how to engage and support their children’s education lead to improved learning outcomes for children?

• If each intervention (above) alone is insufficient to impact child outcomes, can a combination of the two work?
