3MTM Firestop Life Safety Training Level III – Advanced Firestop Training Program

3M’s Advanced Firestop Training Program is designed for those who are generally familiar with

3M™ Fire Protection Products as well as the basics of passive fire protection (e.g., codes, test

standards, ratings, system nomenclature, system selection and installation procedures) and want to learn

more about advanced application installations.

The two-day course will include instructional sessions covering 3M tools for firestopping, new products

and systems, as well as industry trends. Participants will also receive hands-on installation training and

will conduct system testing at our UL-approved Fire Test Center.

3M’s Advanced Firestop Training will enhance attendee knowledge in the passive fire protection discipline. The program starts

with a full day of class work relating to the principles of fire protection and concludes with a full day of hands-on training at 3M’s

UL-qualified Fire Test Facility in Cottage Grove, MN. Through-penetrations, fire-resistive joints and flexible wrap systems for

electrical circuitry, structural steel, ventilation air ducts, grease ducts and plenums will be thoroughly covered by the instructors.

As firestop system testing becomes more rigorous and building codes become more demanding, the people involved in this

industry cannot afford to be uninformed. Picking up where our “basic” training leaves off, this class delves into the more

advanced concepts, products and systems of the firestopping industry. Products that will be installed and tested by participants

include 3MTM Fire DamTM Spray, Barrier Sealants, Intumescent Strips and Sheets, Ultra Plastic Pipe Devices, Pillows, Pass-

Through Devices and Flexible Wraps.

The target audience for this class includes installers (e.g., Contractors, Specialty Firestop Contractors or Facility Maintenance

Personnel), General Contractors, Inspectors, Distribution Salespeople, 3M’s Manufacturer Representatives or Customer

Service Personnel from any of the aforementioned entities. Students will receive a “3M Trained” certificate and card upon

completion of the class.

DAY 2 Morning Session: Hands-on training at the 3M Fire Test Center in Cottage Grove, MN. The class will be assigned specific applications found in commercial construction and be asked to firestop those respective systems in concrete floor and gypsum wallboard assemblies provided. The attendees will be instructed on how to use the UL detail applications for those systems and how to read and interpret the application instructions. Test fixtures will be fire tested in accordance with ASTM E-814 including the hose stream test. Attendees will witness the testing of their firestop installations.

Arrangements / Expenses Schedule your arrival flight for the day before the first day of training. Departure flight should be no earlier than 5:00 pm on the last day.

Registration Fee $300 per person* Registration includes meals, local transportation and training materials.

Confirmation Policy Confirmation will be sent to all paid registrants. Do not make any travel arrangements until confirmation is received.

Cancellation Policy All registration cancellations must be in writing or email 10 days prior to training date. A refund will be issued minus a $50 Registration Service Charge. After the 10 days, cancellations are subject to the entire fee which may be applied to a future class. PLEASE NOTE: If you do not cancel and do not attend, you are still responsible for payment.

Class Size Class size is limited to 16 people. All classes are subject to cancellation if a minimum of 10 students are not registered 30 days in advance of the training date.
