Read the passage.

On my brother’s birthday, he was given a kitten. It hadblack, fluffy fur so my brother called it “Charcoal”. I thought“Charcoal” was a rather silly name for a cat, whatever itscolour.

Even though Charcoal really belonged to my brother, italways came to me for its saucer of milk in the morning. Andwhen my family watched television every evening, it wouldsnuggle up against my feet instead of my brother’s.

Like all kittens, Charcoal loved to play. One of itsfavourite games was to chase a ball of yarn. At times, it gotitself all tangled up. That was when it would meow and meowtill I went to its rescue. Charcoal would then lean itself againstmy leg and purr gratefully.

Once my brother was jealous and said crossly, “Charcoalis mine, you know! Why is it always with you?”

I shrugged my shoulders and quietly carried Charcoal tomy room.
