Dear Parents/Carers,
World Book Day
Thank you to all the children for completing the
reading task, at home, before World Book Day. This
week the children have enjoyed creating their own
stories for each tree assembly and the Reception
children have enjoyed illustrating the books. These
books will be up in the school library next week if
you’d like to read them with your child. Also a big
thank you to Miss Michael for arranging a great day
focused on further developing a love for reading. I
know the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the
day.
Parent Consultation Evenings
Please return your reply slips to the class teacher as
soon as possible, indicating your preferred choice
for Parent Consultation Evening. The staff will do
everything they can to accommodate your request
or give you an appointment as close to your
selected time slot as possible. All parents must
attend the evening as this is our formal meeting to
discuss your child’s progress, celebrate their
successes and think about how we can help them
move forward. If you are unable to attend you must
make an alternative arrangement with the class
teacher.
During Parent Consultation Evenings on 21st and
23rd March School Governors will be in Rowan Hall
providing tea and coffee. They will also be asking
you to go online and fill out a questionnaire on
Ofsted Parent View. This is really important as your
positive views will help us either secure good or
push for outstanding in our upcoming inspections
(possibly in July). If you have forgotten your
passwords, don’t worry; we have a guest pass that
will allow you to go online and complete the forms
and this should only take 5 minutes of your time.
Red Nose Day
On Friday 24th March we will all be doing
‘something funny for money’ and taking part in
Red Nose Day. This year our theme is ‘Opposites’.
This is a very open topic so children can be as crea-
tive as they like. It could be that children come
dressed as teachers, and teachers come dressed as
pupils, it might mean that you wear your pyjamas
to school and your school clothes to bed, you
might want to wear your clothes inside out or back
to front. Be as creative as you want and bring a £1
donation for a very worthy cause. We will also be
selling red noses, for £1, from the main office.
Easter Egg Competition
I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s entries
into the Easter Egg Competition. The theme this
year is ‘Happiness and Health’ and all entries must
have at least one hard-boiled egg in the design. All
entries must be brought into the Oak Building on
Monday 27th March and be collected on Tuesday
28thMarch. Parents are welcome to look at the
wonderful creations, after school, on Monday 27th.
Don’t forget to label your child’s entry with their
name and class. Each winner will receive a yummy
chocolate Easter egg. Get cracking!
Daffodil Breakfast
The Infant School (YR, Y1, Y2) will be celebrating
the beginning of Spring, on Thursday 30th March,
by having breakfast together as a school. Children
will need to bring in a named egg cup on the day
and some daffodils to help decorate the lunch hall.
Children will be eating eggs, bread, cheese, jam
and honey. If your child has any food allergies
please let the class teacher know and an alterna-
tive will be provided. If possible we’d like some
parents to get involved and help us set up for the
breakfast and support us throughout the event.
Let the teacher know if you can help out.

Boys ‘A’ Football Team
On Tuesday 21st February the boys ‘A’ football
team played in two league fixtures, one against
Wilbury Primary School and one against St Michael
at Bowes Primary School. In the first match the
boys played extremely well as a team with some
fantastic defensive challenges from Captain Zak
and flying through the air saves from Kerim to
keep us in the game. Hazelwood were 1-0 down at
half time but after a well battled persistent second
half the boys managed to attack well with Michael
scoring a wonderful top corner goal to keep us in
the game and get a well deserved point. The next
match against St Michael at Bowes Hazelwood
started really well and could have easily been 4-0
up in the first few minutes but a few off target
shots and great saves from their keeper kept us
from scoring. Great forward play from St Michael
at Bowes saw Hazelwood lose the game but all of
the Hazelwood team played brilliantly and did the
school proud. Well done to Zak, Adisa, Leo, Kerim,
Hamid, Michael, Shakiren and Numa!
Boys ‘B’ Football Team
On Tuesday 22nd February it was the first time the
boys ‘B’ football team had ever played together.
They had two fixtures one against Eversley Primary
School and one against St Monica’s Primary School.
They started off really well with good movement of
the ball and attacking play. A fantastic cross in from
Tristan and a well finished header from Ollie saw us
go 1-0 up!! Two more fantastic goals from Brodie
and an amazing shot from Brandon saw us go
further ahead – the boys had won their first game
5-1! Damien was awarded man of the match as he
was fantastic in his defensive and attacking duties –
he was everywhere! After a long break we played
our second fixture against St. Monica’s who played
well to beat us 1-0. Well done to Tristan, Morgan,
Brodie, Alfie, Brandon, Ollie, Oscar, Lucas, Drew, Ru
and Damien!
