Dan 2:1 “And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams,

wherewith his spirit was troubled, and his sleep

    brake from him.” 603BC

God uses dreams to arrest attention: Pharaoh (Gen 41:8); Nebuchadnezzar

    (Dan 4:5).

Joe 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men

shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.”

  • 4 8/1/2020

Dan 2:2 “Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers,

and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams.

So they came and stood before the king.” Gen 41:8 “…in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told

them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.”

  • 5 8/1/2020

Dan 2:3-4 “3And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to

know the dream. 4Then spake the Chaldeans to the

king in Syriack, O king, live for ever: tell thy

servants the dream, and we will shew the

interpretation.” Daniel 2:4b to 7:28 is written in Aramaic. The rest of Daniel is written in

    Hebrew.

  • 6 8/1/2020

Dan 2:5-7 “5The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me the dream, with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. 6But if ye shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof. 7They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.”

  • {FE 412.1} “The historic events related in the king’s dream were of consequence to him; but the dream was taken from him, that the wise men by their claimed

understanding of mysteries, should not place upon it a false interpretation. The

lessons taught in it were given by God for those who live in our day. The

inability of the wise men to tell the dream, is a representation of the wise men

of the present day, who have not discernment and learning and knowledge

from the Most High, and therefore are unable to understand the prophecies.”

  • 8 8/1/2020

Dan 2:8-9 “8The king answered and said, I know of certainty that ye would gain the time, because ye see

the thing is gone from me. 9But if ye will not make

known unto me the dream, there is but one decree

for you: for ye have prepared lying and corrupt

words to speak before me, till the time be changed:

therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye

can shew me the interpretation thereof.”

  • 9 8/1/2020

Dan 2:10 “The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can

shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king,

lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any

magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.” Isa 47:13 “Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save

thee from these things that shall come upon thee.”

  • 10 8/1/2020

Dan 2:11 “And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can shew it before the

king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with

flesh.” Dan 2:28 “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets…” Dan 5:11 “There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like

the wisdom of the gods, was found in him…”

  • 11 8/1/2020

Dan 2:12-14 “12For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise

men of Babylon. 13And the decree went forth that the

wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and

his fellows to be slain. 14Then Daniel answered with

counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the

king's guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise

    men of Babylon:”

  • {6T 227.2} “Through Joseph the life of that whole people was preserved. Through Daniel God saved the life of all the wise men of Babylon. And

these deliverances were as object lessons; they illustrated to the people the

spiritual blessings offered them through connection with the God whom Joseph

and Daniel worshiped. So through His people today God desires to bring

    blessings to the world.”

  • 13 8/1/2020

Dan 2:15-17 “15He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the

king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. 16Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that

he would give him time, and that he would shew the

king the interpretation. 17Then Daniel went to his

house, and made the thing known to Hananiah,

    Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:”

  • 14 8/1/2020

Dan 2:18-20 “18That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel

and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the

wise men of Babylon. 19Then was the secret revealed

unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the

God of heaven. 20Daniel answered and said, Blessed

be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom

    and might are his:”

  • {Ms82-1900.2} “Those who live in close fellowship with Christ will be promoted by Him to positions of trust. The servant who does the best he can

for his master, is admitted to familiar intercourse with the one whose

commands he loves to obey. In the faithful discharge of duty we may

become one with Christ; The one who talks most familiarly with his

divine Leader has the most exalted conception of His greatness, and is the

    most obedient to His commands.”

    15 8/1/2020

  • {Ms58-1903.12} “Nehemiah humbled himself before God, giving Him the glory due unto His name. Thus also did Daniel in Babylon. Let us study the prayers

of these men. They teach us that we are to humble ourselves, but that we are

never to obliterate the line of demarcation between God’s commandment-keeping people and those who have no respect for His law.”

    16 8/1/2020

  • {8T 153.2} “Today the remnant people of God are to glorify His name by proclaiming the last message of warning, the last invitation to the marriage

supper of the Lamb. The only way in which they can fulfill God’s expectations is by being representatives of the truth for this time.”

    17 8/1/2020

  • {YI August 25, 1886, par. 6} “He rose superior to ridicule; and so will every one who is an overcomer. Daniel acquired a serene and cheerful state of mind,

because he believed God was his friend and helper. The taxing duties he had

to perform were made light because he brought the light and love of God into

his work. ‘All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as walk in them.’”

Dan 2:21-22 “21And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he

giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them

that know understanding: 22He revealeth the deep

and secret things: he knoweth what is in the

darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” Jer 32:19 “Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and

according to the fruit of his doings”

  • {PP 694.1} “All earthly powers are under the control of the Infinite One. To the mightiest ruler, to the most cruel oppressor, He says, “Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further.” Job 38:11. God’s power is constantly exercised to counteract the agencies of evil; He is ever at work among men, not for their

destruction, but for their correction and preservation.”

    Removes and sets up kings

Dan 4:17 “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most

High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will,

and setteth up over it the basest of men.”

Gives wisdom to the wise Gives knowledge to those who understand Reveals deep and secret things Knows what is concealed Is the source of light

    Rev 13:18 “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man;

and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

  • 8/1/2020 24

    Changes times and seasons*

Dan 7:25 “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws:

and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the

    dividing of time.”

  • 25 8/1/2020

Dan 2:23 “I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might,

and hast made known unto me now what we desired

of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the

    king's matter.”

  • 26 8/1/2020

Dan 2:24-25 “24Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men

of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy

not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the

king, and I will shew unto the king the

interpretation. 25Then Arioch brought in Daniel

before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I

have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will

make known unto the king the interpretation.”

  • {AA 13.2} “From the beginning God has wrought through His people to bring blessing to the world. To the ancient Egyptian nation God made Joseph a

fountain of life. Through the integrity of Joseph the life of that whole people

was preserved. Through Daniel God saved the life of all the wise men of

Babylon. And these deliverances are as object lessons; they illustrate the

spiritual blessings offered to the world through connection with the God whom

Joseph and Daniel worshiped. Everyone in whose heart Christ abides,

everyone who will show forth His love to the world, is a worker together with

God for the blessing of humanity. As he receives from the Saviour grace to

impart to others, from his whole being flows forth the tide of spiritual life.”

Dan 2:26-27 “26The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make

known unto me the dream which I have seen, and

the interpretation thereof? 27Daniel answered in the

presence of the king, and said, The secret which the

king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the

astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew

    unto the king;”

  • {CW 101.2} “The very first exhibition of God’s power to the Hebrew captives was in showing the defective wisdom of the great ones of the earth. The

wisdom of men is foolishness with God. The magicians revealed their

ignorance of the light before the Lord revealed His wisdom as supreme. The

wisdom of human agents who had misappropriated their God-given talents,

    God showed to be foolishness.”

Dan 2:28 “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king

Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy

dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are

these;” Dan 2:22 “He revealeth the deep and secret things…” Psa 25:14 “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” “Latter days” is a reference to the “time of the end.” Dan 10:14 “Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.”

Dan 2:29-30 “29As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to

pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh

known to thee what shall come to pass. 30But as for

me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom

that I have more than any living, but for their sakes

that shall make known the interpretation to the king,

and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy

    heart.”

  • {7T 151.3} “Consider the experience of Daniel. When called to stand before King Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel did not hesitate to acknowledge the source of his

wisdom. Did that faithful recognition of God detract from Daniel’s influence in the king’s court? By no means; it was the secret of his power; it secured for him favor in the eyes of the ruler of Babylon. In God’s name Daniel made known to the king the heaven-sent messages of instruction, warning, and

rebuke, and he was not repulsed. Let God’s workers of today read the firm, bold testimony of Daniel and follow his example.”

and the form thereof was terrible. 32This

image's head was of fine gold, his breast and

his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of

    and part of clay.”

  • {Ms63-1899 (April 22, 1899) par. 31}{1MR 51.1} “The mingling of churchcraft and statecraft is represented by the iron and the clay. This union

is weakening all the power of the churches. This investing the

church with the power of the State will bring evil results. Men

have almost passed the point of God’s forbearance. They have invested their strength in politics, and have united with the

papacy. But the time will come when God will punish those who

have made void His law, and their evil work will recoil upon

    themselves.”

    36 8/1/2020

  • {RH February 6, 1900, Art. A, par. 4} “The image shown to Nebuchadnezzar in the visions of the night represents the kingdoms of the world.

The metals in the image, symbolizing the different kingdoms,

became less and less pure and valuable, from the head down.

The head of the image was of gold, the breast and arms of silver,

the sides of brass, and the feet and toes iron mingled With clay.

So the kingdoms represented by them deteriorated in value.”

Dan 2:34 “Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet

that were of iron and clay, and brake them to

pieces.” “Thou sawest till” implies a delay for the process of “cut” to begin (Investigative Judgment – 1844 Dan 7:9-10) “Stone” (Strong's #H69, Ezra 5:8; 6:4) “Cut out” from what? The Mountain - Daniel 2:45 Why “without hands” or “which was not in hands”? No human involvement – Dan 8:25 “… he shall be broken without hand.”

God by Jesus Christ. 6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I

lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on

him shall not be confounded. 7Unto you therefore which believe he is

precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders

{Lt132-1901.7-8} “Those who work in the large cities are to reach if possible to the high ones of the world, even to ruling powers. Where is our faith? God has

presented to me the case of Nebuchadnezzar. The Lord worked with power to

bring the mightiest king on the earth to acknowledge Him as King over all

kings. He moved upon the mind of the proud king until Nebuchadnezzar

acknowledged Him as “the most high God,” “whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.” [Daniel 3:26; 4:34.] Is not God to be honored and glorified in the world today?”

that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and

reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.”

Luke 13:18-19 “Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man

{PK 535.1} “Every nation that has come upon the stage of action has been permitted to occupy its place on the earth, that the fact might

be determined whether it would fulfill the purposes of the

Watcher and the Holy One. Prophecy has traced the rise and

progress of the world’s great empires—Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. With each of these, as with the nations of less

{YI September 22, 1903, par. 2-6} {1MR 50.1-5} “The image revealed to Nebuchadnezzar, while representing the deterioration of the kingdoms of the earth in power and glory, also fitly represents the deterioration of religion and morality among the people of these kingdoms. As nations forget God, in like proportion they become weak morally. Babylon passed away because in her prosperity she forgot God, and ascribed the glory of her prosperity to human achievement. The Medo-Persian kingdom was visited by the wrath of heaven because in this kingdom God’s law was trampled under foot. The fear of the Lord found no place in the hearts of the people. The prevailing influences in Medo-Persia were wickedness, blasphemy, and corruption.” Cont…

Cont…“The kingdoms that followed were even more base and corrupt. They deteriorated because they cast off their

allegiance to God. As they forgot Him, they sank lower and

still lower in the scale of moral value. The vast empire of

Rome crumbled to pieces, and from its ruins rose that mighty

power, the Roman Catholic Church. This church boasts of her

infallibility and her hereditary religion. But this religion is a

horror to all who are acquainted with the secrets of the mystery

of iniquity. The priests of this church maintain their ascendency

by keeping the people in ignorance of God’s will, as revealed in the Scriptures.”

{PK 501.3} “In the history of nations the student of God’s word may behold the literal fulfillment of divine prophecy. Babylon,

shattered and broken at last, passed away because in prosperity its

rulers had regarded themselves as independent of God, and had

ascribed the glory of their kingdom to human achievement. The

Medo-Persian realm was visited by the wrath of Heaven because

in it God’s law had been trampled underfoot. The fear of the Lord had found no place in the hearts of the vast majority of the

{Lt32-1899.7} “Great light shone forth from Daniel and his companions. Glorious things were spoken of Zion, the city of the

Lord. Thus the Lord designs that spiritual light shall shine

from His faithful watchmen in these last days. If the saints in

the Old Testament bore such a decided testimony of loyalty, how

should God’s people today, having the accumulated light of centuries, shine forth, when the prophecies of the Old Testament

shed their veiled glory into the future.”

{6T 220.1-2} “While faithful to his duties in the king’s court, Daniel so faithfully maintained his loyalty to God that God could honor him as His messenger to

the Babylonian monarch. Through him the mysteries of the future were

unfolded, and Nebuchadnezzar himself was constrained to acknowledge the

God of Daniel “as a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets.” Daniel 2:47. So the institutions established by God’s people today are to glorify His name. The only way in which we can fulfill His expectation is by being

representatives of the truth for this time. God is to be recognized in the

institutions established by Seventh-day Adventists. By them the truth for

position in the world, as he did Joseph and Daniel, then he will

sustain and keep you in the midst of temptation. But you will

never be where you will find too much light, in our world. Then

how perilous it is to choose the association of those who love

darkness rather than light, and will not come to the light, lest

    their deeds should be reproved.”

{4T 569.1} “The case of Daniel was presented before me. Although he was a man of like passions with ourselves, the pen of inspiration presents him as a

faultless character. His life is given us as a bright example of what man may

become, even in this life, if he will make God his strength and wisely improve

the opportunities and privileges within his reach. Daniel was an intellectual

giant; yet he was continually seeking for greater knowledge, for higher

attainments. Other young men had the same advantages; but they did not, like

him, bend all their energies to seek wisdom—the knowledge of God as revealed in His word and in His works. Although Daniel was one of the

world’s great men, he was not proud nor self-sufficient. He felt the need of refreshing his soul with prayer, and each day found him in earnest

supplication before God. He would not be deprived of this privilege even

when a den of lions was opened to receive him if he continued to pray.”
