The Seekers, 7th through 12th grade Offers topical, yet Bible-based lessons based on current events and other trending subjects that have an immediate relevancy to youth. What better way to capture the attention of a young person than to discuss things that are important to them, to talk about what they are talking about.

Catechesis is a Montessori approach to the religious formation of children, rooted in the Bible and the liturgy of the church. It also adheres to the educational principals of Maria Montessori, whose philosophy was to teach children with an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s intrinsic desire to learn.

We need volunteers to serve as

ushers during services on

Sundays. Both services (8:30 &

10:45 a.m.) need additional

ushers, but we especially need them at the 10:45

service. Duties include handing out bulletins, helping

visitors find their way around our campus and directing

the congregation to the communion rail. If you would

be willing to serve in this capacity, please contact the

office at 842-4386.

In accordance with our By-Laws, Article

IV, Section 2C, the Vestry elected Bud

Nelson to fill the vacancy on the vestry

due to the death of Rhonda Saunders.

Bud’s term on the Vestry will expire in

2020. You can read Bud’s bio at

http://allsaintstupelo.com/all/?page_id=157.

Our thanks to Bud for his willingness and commitment to

serve in this capacity.

God, who is the giver of every good gift, you are ever present

in our lives and in the world. You act through us, your people,

to care for and provide for everyone.

We pray for the courage to break out of our insecurity and

fear around money as we deepen our understanding of our

relationship to you and how we use our financial resources to

do your work in the world.

We pray these things that we might know you better, that

you will increase our desire and ability to give and help others

through ministry and friendship and to gratefully commit

ourselves to the work you have given us to do. Amen.

neighborhoodlife Each Saturday, Helping Hands Helping Homeless uses the

Salvation Army’s campus to feed lunch to our area’s

hungry. Various church groups sign up to provide the

meal each week, and All Saints’ has offered to serve lunch

on Saturday, August 5. We need volunteers to help with

the cooking, serving, and clean up that day. We also need

food items donated to help provide the meal (or feel free

to make a monetary donation). Look for sign-up sheets

in the church on Sundays and in the church office during

the week. An average of 100-120 people are fed each

Saturday through this ministry so we will need lots of

extra hands to help with this project. Please contact Mary

Howard King for more information.

The Neighborhood Life Committee will meet

Tuesday, August 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the kitchen to

prep for the meal that will be served. All are

invited to join us!

SEARCH

COMMITTEE

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look

graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds

of those who shall choose a priest for this parish,

that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care

for your people and equip us for our ministries;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From the Book of Common Prayer

The search committee has completed the parish

profile and it has been sent to the Bishop for final

approval. Our thanks to Tom Robinson and

Associates for their work in producing the profile for

us.

The next phase of our process will include a meeting

with our search consultant, The Rev. Canon David

Johnson, to begin outlining the interview process.

Once we have received the final list of candidates

from the Bishop, the profile will be distributed to

them and the interview process will begin.

JESUS Wherever we bury Jesus, he comes back to life. We can

bury him in the Bible or in stained glass windows, in

creeds and formulas and the heritage of our own

tradition, in movies and plays and music, in our past. We

can even bury him in bread and wine. And each time from

each place he rises from the dead. He sheds the words

and images and walks right on out into the world.

The Society of St. John the Evangelist

"Ultreya" is a Spanish word,

derived from the original Latin,

meaning Onward! It was in

common use by pilgrims to greet

and to encourage one another

along the way.

This word is now used by the Cursillo community to

signify the meeting which is held after a Cursillo

experience. This meeting may be between Cursillistas

from one or several commmunities.

The Ultreya gathers together groups from a particular

region and provides continuity by contributing to the

maintenance of the Cursillo spirit and by revealing the

reality of the living Church.

In a climate of friendship, members share their life

experiences based on the three tenets of Cursillo life i.e.

prayer, study and action, or based on a passage from

Scripture. This sharing can be contemplative in nature or

may deal with an evangelizing experience. These sharings

from real-life experiences, serve as examples to all of us

of the challenge which Jesus lays before His followers "Go

and do likewise."

If you have attended Cursillo and would be interested in

joining an Ultreya group at All Saints’, please call the

office at 842-4386.

This month I want to begin by sharing the number of meals served this past year

and compare it to previous years. As you can see from the chart, our data is fairly

consistent with the last two years and we will probably serve around 18,000 meals

this year. This is down from our highest year during 2014, I believe the improving

job outlook and economy for our guests has assisted in reducing the number of

meals served. Remember our guests are not just the homeless; we serve people

that are disabled, retired, employed (usually part-time fast food jobs), homeless

that stay at the Salvation Shelter and the unemployed.

MUTEH (Mississippi United to End Homelessness) has still not hired a fulltime

employee to serve our homeless population but, we do have one case manager

who is assisting several homeless individuals in the Tupelo area. He is coming from

the Jackson area to assist with this population about two to three times a week.

New donations to Saints’ Brew include the Tupelo Public Schools, which has been

gracious in donating cartons of milk that they are unable to use because of school

letting out or the end of their summer meals. We also have received 40 pounds of

yummy sausage from Shannon Vernon, Kamme Riddle’s brother, which our Monday

crew made into patties.

This year marks Saints’ Brew 10th anniversary! We are in the initial stages of

determining how we want to celebrate. Please be willing to assist with this

celebration when asked.

Also, we could use a volunteer who could assist with finding and writing grants

for Saints’ Brew; anyone who has experience with grants please give me a call or

email me. We can always use people who want to be substitute crewmembers.

As usual I wish to thank everyone who makes a donation to Saints’ Brew. A box

of cereal, canned fruit, sugar or coffee really makes a difference in our costs. Please

keep Saints’ Brew in mind when grocery shopping. Thank you to all of our

volunteers – we could not do this without you. -Mona Warlick

Reformation 500!

3 Things You May

Not Know About

the Reformation

The name “Lutheran” originated as a derogatory

term used against Martin Luther by German

scholastic theologian Johann Maier von Eck during

the Leipzig Debate in 1519.

An estimated 6,001,500,000 Bibles have been

printed since the first one came off the press in

the Middle Ages. The first Bible published in North

America was printed in 1663.

While the Reformation gave birth to

Protestantism, today only two of the 10 countries

with the largest Protestant populations are

European.
