6th Grade: Unit 6 Parent Resources
ReThinkMathematics.com
Dear Parents, During the sixth unit of math instruction, your student will be learning the following new 6th grade skills: finding area, volume, surface area, modeling and drawing solids using nets, and solving real world problems that focus on area, volume, and surface area. Their success in mastering these new concepts is dependent on how well they understand the following standards from the previous unit as well as the previous grade level standards as outlined in the Unit 1 Parent Letter distributed earlier in the year:
1. Introduction to rational numbers 2. Ordering and Comparing rational numbers 3. Absolute value 4. Coordinate graphing all four quadrants
Below are some resources that you and your child can access at home to practice the above skills. Each resource has printable worksheets (and answer sheets) that correspond to the standard. Please make time to practice these skills each week. There are also links to enrichment activities and math games at the end of the document as well.
PREVIOUS UNIT CONCEPTS AND STANDARDS Skill Rational numbers Example Draw a number line showing all whole numbers from -6 to +6. Resource www.ixl.com/math. Click “6th Grade” then “Number lines with integers” under
