Shri T.K.S Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops.), DM interacted with the traffic police personnel and briefed about the various types of disasters. He informed about vulnerability profile of these Islands, which are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities. He also explained preparedness mechanism and functions of Disaster Management and Traffic police personnel sensitized on disaster management Port Blair, June 18 Under the scheme 'Promotion of Art Culture' an amount of Rs.10,50,000/- has been earmarked to be released as GIA to PRIs for conducting Panchayat/block level cultural programmes. The ceremony marked the end of the six months basic forestry training imparted to 20 newly recruited Forest Guards. Shri. Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands, chief guest of the function, took salute from the trainees during the passing-out parade and gave away the Course completion certificates to them. In his convocation address, the Chief Secretary expressed his satisfaction on the passing out of 48th Batch of Forest Guards of the Department of Environment & Forests, A& N Islands and exhorted them to devote themselves to their duties with all sincerity, honesty and professional competence at their command for the protection and conservation of the rich natural resources available in the unique forests of A&N Islands. He also reminded them to always keep duty before self and perform their services judiciously. The PCCF & Principal Secretary (E.&F), Shri. Omkar Singh, who was the Guest of honour, adorned the meritorious trainees with gold and silver medals and highlighted the importance of Forests and Wildlife in making the environment pure, clean and stable. In his ceremonial address to the outgoing trainees, he advised them to render their best services for protection of rich flora & fauna of these Islands. Miss V.K. Altogether 26 loan proposals duly involving of an amount of Rs.47.91 lakhs as project cost were recommended for consideration of finance under PMEGP scheme during the current financial year 2015-16. Some of the projects which were recommended during the DLTFC meeting are Repairing & Servicing of electrical items, grocery shop, Beauty parlour-cum-tailoring unit, general sales outlet, hollow block manufacturing unit, Copra processing, Small dhaba-cum-stationary shop etc. All these 26 loan cases will now be forwarded to the concerned bank branches of Commercial as well as A&N State Co-operative Banks through Lead Bank Office, SBI, Port Blair for consideration of finance under the captioned scheme, a communication said.
