STEM Fest
Enrollment Challenge
There will be two different 4-H enrollment challenges this year. The 4-H club with the biggest percentage of
families re-enrolled online by December 1st will receive an ice cream party! Members will have from now until
December 1st to go online and enroll. The second challenge is a pizza party for the club with the highest
percentage of NEW 4-H’ers joining by December 16th.

Registration is now open for area 4th through 8
th grade students to attend ‘Fall STEM Fest
2016’ hosted by Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach 4-H and Youth Programs. Fall STEM Fest 2016 is free to attend, and will be held Saturday, November 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at NCC in Sheldon.
Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. in Building A on the NCC campus, with sessions starting at 9:00 a.m. Lunch and snacks are provided throughout the day, and a public showcase will be held at 2:30 p.m.
“Participation in STEM Fest is free and open to all 4th through 8
th grade students,” Ben Pullen, Youth
Program Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach states. “Sessions are fun and educational with mind-blowing activities. Youth are given the opportunity to experience hands-on, exciting applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
Parents must register online and choose their child’s first, second and third choice color track which consists of different sessions and activities. Organizers will attempt to honor color track choices sessions fill up quickly. No changes to color tracks will happen the day of the event.
This year, session topics include: Rockets to the Rescue, Cooking with Chemistry, Exercise Science; FLEx Virtual Reality Lab, Welding Technology, TechKnow!, Dairy Science, Cancer Research, Electricity and Magnetism, Building Bridges,and Pottery Puzzles.

volunteers. These opportunities for positive youth development, reduce the
likelihood of youth to engage in risky behaviors such as underage drinking,
smoking, bullying, and vandalism. The 4-H promise to kids and parents is:

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our National 4-H Week Chamber
Coffee at the Sanford Museum & Planetarium! Your Extension team,
Mary, Debbie and Jen enjoyed modeling our 4-H uniforms from the
1930's, 1960's and 1970's. 4-H Exhibits will be on display thru
October at the museum.

We need your help in recognizing and honoring the adult volunteers who have made the
Cherokee County 4-H program what it is. Nominate an adult volunteer for one of the following
categories: Leader of the Year - A 4-H leader who has made a difference in the lives of 4-H youth. 4-H
Alumni Award - A former 4-H’er who has continued to contribute to the 4-H program in Cherokee County.
Honorary 4-H Award - Someone who was not a 4-H member but has committed their time, effort and
services to the Cherokee County 4-H program. 4-H Hall Of Fame- Citizenship, Leadership for 4-H and the
welfare of others and mentor and or role model. The nomination forms are available at the ISU Extension
& Outreach Office and on our website: www.extension.iastate.edu/cherokee/4h. Show someone your ap-
preciation!

Silver Sioux Recreation Area Saturday, October 15th 6:30-8:30pm
Go Trick-or-treating, Play Games, and Decorate Pumpkins!. After dark, hike the HAUNTED TRAIL or find
CREEPY CACHES (learn to geocache). Volunteers are needed. Please call 712-225-6709 or email

What do I need to do to re-enroll in 4-H?
* Go to: https://iowa.4honline.com. (You might want to bookmark this page)
* Click “I have a profile” Enter your family email address that was provided to the Extension Office.
* Enter your password that your family has chosen. If you forgot your password choose “I forgot my password” and then click send
my password. Open your email browser and find the email from 4HOnline and locate your temporary password. Return to 4H
Online and Click “I have a profile” and re-type your email and the new password that was just sent. Paste or type your password
exactly as sent by 4HOnline as it is case sensitive. * Choose “Family” from the “Role” drop-down box. Click log in.
* You can update your password if you had forgotten it but if you remembered it you will skip this step.
* You will be taken to the Member list which includes all family members enrolled in 4H: members, leaders, and volunteers. Click
“Edit” to the right of the “Inactive” member listed. On the Personal Information screen, scroll to the bottom of the page and click
“Enroll for 2016-2017”. Now you will have an editable Personal Information screen. Please complete all information that applies to
you. Fields in BOLD are required. When you have completed this page, click “Continue”.
*This brings you to the Additional Information page. All fields are required, when you have completed this page click “Continue”.
* This brings you to the Health Form. Enter in any medical conditions, allergies, and/or medications or click the “no” box if none.
When you have completed this page, click “Continue”.
* Your primary club will be listed and then click “Continue”. If you wish to add or delete projects you may do so at this point. When
you have completed this page click “Continue”.
* This brings you to the invoice screen, click “Continue”.
* Hit Submit Enrollment Form. Your enrollment status will show “Pending”. Your enrollment will be marked “Active” when the CYC
accepts your enrollment. Or call the Office for assistance.

down under Add a new Family Member. Click add Member. Follow the same steps when filling out the Personal Information screen,
the Additional Information page and the Health Form. When you arrive at the Club screen you will need to select your primary club
and click “Add” and then click “Continue”. If you wish to add projects you may do so at this point. This brings you to the invoice
screen, click “Continue”. Click “Submit Enrollment Form”. Your enrollment status will show “Pending”. Your enrollment will be
marked “Active” when the CYC accepts your enrollment.

All 4-H’ers and their families are invited!
4-H’ers will receive their awards and have a club photo taken from the 2015-2016 year . New members for
the 2016-2017 year are encouraged to attend and celebrate with their new club and be included in the club
photo. 52 4-H’ers completed their record books, which are being reviewed by the Cherokee County 4-H
Youth Development Committee for project awards. This represents 50 project award applications!
The 4-H Youth Development Committee will honor a Business of the Year and Hall of Fame award recipients.
Cherokee County Council members are in charge of the program. Tilden Tillers will be the Hosting Club and
providing decorations. Potluck will begin at 5pm and Awards Program at 6pm. This will be held at the Marcus
Community Center.

Prudential Spirit Award Applications
Prudential Spirit of Community Award Applications are now available online at www.prudential.com/spirit.
This program recognizes youth in grades 5-12 solely on the basis of volunteer work in their communities. If
you or someone you know meets these requirements, please have them pick up an application from the ISU,
Cherokee County Extension Office or the web. Applications are due by November 8, 2016. If you are selected,
you could receive $1,000, a silver medallion, and a trip to Washington D.C.!
THANK YOU
Many of you received trophies at the Cherokee County Fair. It’s very important to send donors a
personalized, handwritten thank you. You could include something about the 4-H program, such as “thank
you for your support of the Cherokee County 4-H program”, or “Thank you for encouraging 4-Hers to make
the best better”, or “thank you for contributing to this important youth education program”.
