WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN 4-H

4-H Science Explorer Clubs: Exploring Circuitry Throughout the month of January, 4-H Science Club members in our elementary schools explored electricity and circuits. Each student learned the differences between open and closed circuits and series and parallel circuits by building their own circuits. Each group was able to build several different projects using snap circuits that illustrate different types of circuits. This coming month we will explore another field of science to reinforce their learning in this all important field of science!

4-H Horse Club holds Holiday Meeting Our new Horse Club met on December 19th for the Holiday session for our horse club. Angela, our certified Livestock volunteer welcomed everyone and shared some information concerning upcoming horse club meetings. They also shared information and interests on lots of topics concerning their program and possible upcoming events. The evening ended with everyone preparing horse treats for their horses. Lots of fun and family atmosphere filled the room at this Christmas meeting!

4-H Teen Leaders Meet January 19 2017

Teens held their monthly meeting here at Leslie County Extension to discuss many upcoming events and programs. We discussed project "Book Nook” as a possible project to implement with the city of Hyden. We also discussed many other topics along with our annual strawberry fundraiser for 4-H Camp Scholarships. Our teens along with volunteers and extension staff spent the evening bagging food as a service for the Leslie County Feeding Youth Program. Community service and leadership combined with 4-H making the BEST BETTER!

HOLIDAY SHARE DAY 2016 In appreciation of our Volunteers and Staff that were giving of their time, energy and skills we hosted a Holiday Share Day in celebration! Our evening at Leslie County Extension was enjoyed by several homemakers, volunteers, teens and community members. Fellowship and fun filled the room as everyone moved around to engage in lots of holiday pleasure. We enjoyed hot chocolate, decorating sugar cookies, wood burning ornaments, decorating holiday gift bags along with several other crafted items. A SPECIAL THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TOUCHED EXTENSION IN 2016!

4-H Science Explorer Clubs National Youth Science Day: DRONE Discovery

Throughout the month of November, 4-H Science Club members in our elementary schools explored and discovered DRONES! With the help of volunteers and educators this was the biggest youth science event in the nation. Students learned what Drones are and built their own gliders. They also explored how drone engineering and remote sensing can be used to solve real world problems. A special THANKS to our teacher volunteers who join in our lessons!

4-H Art Clubs: The Color Wheel The color wheel is a magnificent chart that shows the relationship of colors to each other.

Each 4th grade student experienced the world of color as they painted their own barren tree to become

the color scheme of their choice. They explored and blended primary colors to produce secondary

colors. They applied many of the principles and elements of art as their paintings were created. Each

class experienced warm and cool color combinations, different tints, shades and tones as their art work

reflected their choice of color combinations. A special THANKS to our teacher volunteers for joining

in our lessons!
