Boots & Spurs Meetings are scheduled for March 14 & 28 at 6 pm in the

Large meeting room of the Extension Office.

Kindra Ewing Jones Grayson County Extension Agent for

4-H Youth Development

Photography Club The next meeting will be March 30 at 4:30 PM. Paloma Falcon is the leader for this group.

The club will be working on ‘photographing people’ during the March meeting.

Sewing Club Meetings will be March 3, 10, 24 & 31 at 3:30. Barbara Stiles is the leader for this group.

Teen Club Teen Club is open to ALL middle and high school age youth!

The club will meet on March 6 & 20 at 3:15 PM. Future meeting dates are Apr. 17, and May 1 & 22. The club will be selling concessions at the MG Plant Fair on May 6.

Cloverbuds This group is for 5-8 year olds. Next meeting will be March 13 at 3:30.

“Wild at Art” Club March 16 meeting will be at 4:00 in the Large Meeting Room of the Extension Office.

The leader for this club is Stacey Andrews.

Shooting Sports Shorter days provide less daylight– Shooting Sports will not meet during the winter months.

Meetings will resume in the Spring around Spring Break time when the days get longer! For more information about shooting sports contact the Extension Office at 259-3492.

Important Information Regarding Speeches & Demonstrations

Consider competing in the county level speech and demonstration contest. The 4-H

Council will be giving prize money to put toward a 4-H event (i.e.– 4-H Camp, Horse

Events, Shooting Sports Events, Teen Conference, etc.)

There will be prizes for the following:

Overall winners for Junior & Senior Speeches and

Junior & Senior Demonstrations:

1st Place- $75

2nd Place- $50

3rd Place- $25

County Speeches & Demonstrations

County Date: April 11, 2017;

Located at Grayson County Extension Office, Time 5:00 p.m.

Winners move to Area level to be held on May 4

Please stop at the Extension Office for Complete Rules

This contest teaches youth the parts of a good speech or demonstration, how to write the text, effective delivery techniques and gives lots of opportunities to practice in front of others.

Speech Categories (by age):

Juniors- 9, 10, 11, 12, 13: The 4-Her may have assistance in writing and

preparation based on age level. Speeches must be 3 to 5 minutes long.

Seniors– 14, 15, 16, 17, 18: Because this is an educational learning experience,

the Senior 4-Her is expected to choose a topic, research and write their own speech. A

participant may have help with practicing the speech. Speeches must be between 5 to 7

minutes long.

NO VISUAL AIDS FOR SPEECHES (COSTUMES ARE CONSIDERED VISUAL

AIDS). NO DRAMATIC READINGS, DRAMATIC

MONOLOGUES, OR RECITATION OF POEMS.

Demonstrations: Junior/Senior age categories same as speeches

but broken into category (I.e.– foods, wood working, etc)

Time limit for project demonstrations will be 5-15 minutes. (INCLUDING BREADS)

At the SENIOR LEVEL, the 4-H’er is expected to demonstrate original

work– choosing a topic, researching it and writing their own speech or

demonstration. The internet may be used as a reference source but NOT

as a source for a non-original speech or demonstration.

Diabetes Support Group meets every 3rd Thursday at 1:00 in the Small Meeting Room of the Extension Office

Evening Homemakers will meet the 4th Monday’s of each month at the Extension

Office at 5:00. March 27 is next meeting; lesson topic– Essential Oils 101. The lesson is free and

open to all people interested, but will need to RSVP by March 20.

IF you want to make a roller bottle of oils to take home, there is a $5 fee.
