Saturday February 9, 2019 4 DISTRICTS STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: The record- breaking snowfall on Thursday has thrown life out of gear in entire Chenab region, especially in Bhadarwah Valley, which received maximum snow causing massive power out- ages, traffic disruptions and even causing widespread damage to apple cultivation and other crops in the hilly region. Entire region remained powerless since Wednesday and all the roads remained closed for the sec- ond day on Friday. Locals in Bhadarwah town were up in arms against the administration, as according to them despite improvement in weather, administration failed to initiate restoration work to clear the snow even in the town itself. According to reports, entire Chenab region received record breaking snowfall on Thursday but Bhadarwah Valley was the worst hit by the February snowstorm as in Bhadarwah town 3.5 feet of snow was recorded while in peripheral areas accumula- tion of snow was even more at Sartingal, Bheja, Haliyan, Runta, Manthla, Kansar, Dharmunda, Shankhoja, Laksaru and Hanga 4 feet of snow was recorded. Meanwhile 4.5 feet was reported to have accumulated at Chinchora, Ghuraka, Trabbi, Thanalla and Basti. Although weather improved on Friday morning as Sun came out of the clouds after three days of inclement weather but locals alleged that civil administration remained in deep slumber as authorities failed to even initi- ate any type of restoration process to resume the essen- tial services including electric- ity, road connectivity, potable water supply, government ration and kerosene oil depots. When contacted by this cor- respondent, ADC Bhadarwah Dr Ravi Kumar Bharti refused to answer any of the queries regarding restoration process with a plea that he will come back with a state- ment soon. Nowshera to commemorate the gallant action and supreme sacri- fice of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC and countless other martyrs. The cere- monies were a true reflec- tion of the military grandeur and patriotic fer- vor. The wreath laying cere- mony and an excellent dis- play by the military band rekindled the patriotic sen- timent of all present. Multi-Specialty medical camp and artificial limb donation camp were also organised as part of remembrance under which 30 wheel chairs, 20 crutch- es, 10 hearing aids and eight blind sticks donated to beneficiaries including men and women from the Nowshera Tehsil. The multi-specialty camp was augmented by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super-Specialty Hospital, Katra by provid- ing state of art two mobile screening buses for Mammography, ECG. Lab Investigations and on spot X-Ray facilities. The event concluded with a well thought and colourful cul- tural performance by school children and felicitation of Veer Naris, War Veterans and relatives of late Naik Jadunath Singh. STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: With a view to provide income support to all small and marginal farm- ers under 'Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi' (PMKSN) scheme, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Ravinder Kumar today chaired a meeting of District Officers of different departments to review effec- tive implementation of the scheme in the district. A detailed discussion were held on various aspects regarding uploading of bene- ficiaries data, activation of beneficiaries accounts, preparation of list of exclu- sive categories, collection of Data and organization of camps etc. While addressing the meet- ing, the DDC said that the main objective of launching this scheme is to supplement the financial needs of the farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields. He said that the farmers who fall under this category up to 2 hectares shall be provided benefits of Rs-6000 per annum per family. DDC directed the officers of concerned departments to activate men and machin- ery and to expedite the process for effective imple- mentation of this schemes at grass root level in the dis- trict so that the farmers can avail benefits of these scheme. In this regard he asked the officers to consti- tute a district as well as Sub -Division level monitoring committees to monitor all the activities. Besides this he instructed the officers to activate Zone level teams also. Additional District Development Commissioner, Ashok Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Development, Neelam Khajuria, District Information Officer, Er. DDC for effective implementation of PMKSN Scheme STATE TIMES NEWS RAMBAN: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Ramban Showkat Aijaz Bhat on Friday toured at Batote area to review sta- tus of availability of essen- tial commodities and restoration of essential services besides inspecting snow, road clearance opera- tions and obtaining public feedback from public in this regard. DDC was accompanied by the ADC Dr. Basharat Hussain, CMO, Dr. Saif-u- Din Khan, Xen of PDD, and officers of other departments. DDC took stock of snow and road clearance opera- tions from Batote to patni- top and link roads besides restoration of electricity and water supply in affect- ed areas and availability of essential commodities. He directed the concerned offi- cers to restore all link roads as early as possible. DDC informed that restoration work of water, power and road connectivi- ty was initiated on war footing after stop of snow- fall in entire district. He also checked the avail- ability of ration, LPG, kerosene and other items and directed the concerned officers to ensure proper distribution at concerned depots. DC directed Tehsildar to access the loss of locals caused by the heavy snowfall. He also interacted with the public at various places and heard their grievances, besides passing on spot directions for its redressal. He directed to all officers to stay in their headquar- ters and keep men and machinery are on high alert in view of the snow predic- tion for the next days. Later DDC visited Sher- e-Kashmir Memorial Emergency Hospital Batote to assess the quality of medical services, heating arrangements, punctuality of staff and patient care at the health institute espe- cially during ongoing snow season. He inspected wards of the hospital and interacted with the patients and checked the availability of medicines the medical facilities being provided to the patients in hospital. KISHTWAR: Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana on Fridayvisited Kishtwar town and adjoining areas to monitor the status of essen- tial services and snow clear- ance operations. During his tour, he visited district hospital, bus stand, Dak Bunglow, Giri nagar and other adjoining areas of Kishtwar town. At district hospital, he met patients and enquired about the well-being. He directed concerned officers to ensure proper heating system in hospitals as well as the availability of sufficient medicines. He directed to keep the emergency section fully equipped and ready to meet any situation due to heavy snowfall. He also met public deputa- tion and listened to their issues and on spot direc- tions were passed to con- cerned officers for prompt redressal. DC impressed upon the officers to expedite restora- tion of power supply, inter and intra district road con- nectivity including high- ways, drinking water sup- ply, traffic management, operationalization of ensur- ing adequate stock of essen- tial food items, LPG and Kerosene oil etc. RAJOURI: District Development commissioner Rajouri Mohammad Aijaz Asad on Friday convened a meeting to review the status of essential services and snow clearance operations after the incessant down- pour in the district. The meeting was informed that of 102 electricity feed- ers, 88 are functional, seven are non-functional, and seven are partially function- al and work on restoring feeders is in progress. It was informed that men and machinery have been deput- ed for the restoration of HT/LT network. While taking stock of PHE sector, it was informed that of 211 water supply schemes in division Rajouri, only 10 have been affected due to incessant rains and snowfall. In Nowshera sub- division, all the 164 water supply schemes are running smoothly with minor prob- lems like low voltage. Regarding road connectiv- ity, five roads of PMGSY and eight PWD roads are closed due to snow accumu- lation. It was said that ade- quate men and machinery are working round-the-clock and roads will be cleared of snow by today evening. While taking stock of food grains, it was also apprised that sufficient stock of food grains is available in the dis- trict, and the full quota of the month has reached at the respective godowns for further distributions to the consumers. DDC asked the officers to be proactive and ensure that there are no interruptions in essential services particu- larly food grains water sup- ply, kerosene oil, electricity supply and clearance of roads. All the officers were directed to remain present at their respective Headquarters and take pre- cautionary measures to save the life and property of the people residing in avalanche prone areas.
