BULLDOG ROTC BALL – 7 April 2017 _______________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________

LTG Twitty Mentorship COWPENS Staff-Ride Trip to SC State House

2017 Military Ball The ROTC Bulldog Battalion celebrated

another military ball this year. The

preparation for the military ball was

done by Cadet Smalls and Cadet Jalen

Ayers.

They put in a lot of hard work to make

sure the military ball was total success.

This year’s goal was to invite many

people than last year and I believe the

goal was met.

The military ball was held April 7,

2017. Colonel Hart was the guest

speaker for the evening and he pour out

many pearls of wisdoms. During the

ball 4 cadets were awarded the

1849/1949 leadership award from each

military science level.

Those cadets were Cadet Jennifer

Jeffcoat, Jamie Chisholm, Jalen Ayers

and Brittany Singletary. This event was

like no other and the bulldog battalion

plans to continue the tradition we hold

so dear.

Special Guest The South Carolina State University

Bulldog battalion is always welcoming

to U.S. Army Officers to come to SC

State and speak to our cadets. It is even

more exhilarating when those Army

Officers are graduates and

commissionees of the Bulldog

Battalion. Earlier this academic

semester we were gracious enough to

have Col. Willie D. Coleman class of

1990 speak to the

MS-4 senior cadets about their

upcoming transition to 2nd

Lieutenants.

The class of 18 senior cadets were

engaged and interactive the entire

time Colonel Coleman (SC State

Alumni ’90) spoke. He spoke

upon a plethora of topics as the

MS-4’s took plenty of notes.

Topics that were covered varied

from financial tips, essentials

things to do as a platoon leader,

how to be a successfully Army

officer and more. Colonel

Coleman was accompanied by

Lieutenant Colonel Reginald E.

Bryant (PMS from Central State

University in Ohio), and Master

Sergeant Sheila Thomas (Reserve

TPU). They helped give advice

from what they know, and what

they look for in officers from the

enlisted perspective. LTC Bryant

was an enlisted soldier for 8 years

until he graduated from Officer's

Candidate School in 1997. Which

allowed him to give a lot of

insight about roles and positions

in the Army.

Whenever there is a U.S. Army

officer or enlisted soldier willing

and able to speak to the Bulldog

Battalion, we could never turn

them down. A speech, one word

of advice, a question and answer

session, or even a quick

conversation with the Bulldog

Battalion could make the

difference in a cadet’s Army

career.

Senior Staff Ride

At the Battle of Cowpens in South

Carolina on January 17, 1781,

during the Revolutionary War

(1775-83), American troops under

Brigadier General Daniel Morgan

(1736-1802) routed British forces

under Lieutenant Colonel

Banastre Tarleton (1754-1833).

The Americans inflicted heavy

casualties on the British, and the

battle was a turning point in the

war’s Southern campaign. On April

21 the MS4s took a staff ride to the

Cowpens National Battlefield.

The cadets watched two

documentary about Cowpens to gain

a better understanding of what took

place during 1781 at Cowpens. After

the video the cadets were able to

hold different weapons that were

used during this battle. Ranger

“Will” gave them a tour of the

battlefield. The cadets were able to

get a visual of the battlefield.

Upon the completion of tour the

cadets had to give a 3-5 mins

briefing on a topic dealing with

Cowpens.
