VARSiTY WRESTLiNGThe wrestling team trav-
eled to South Haven Decem-ber 19th to compete in a team tournament. The Cardinals finish 2-3 on the day beat-ing Godwin Heights 40-33 and Niles 46-30. Wrestlers with winning records on the day were Brian Paquette 4-1, Isma Salinas 4-1, Bran-don Smith 3-2, and Brody Whitecotton 2-1. A special congratulations goes out to Brody Whitecotton for cap-turing his first career wins. Brody did this in dominat-ing fashion, capturing two pins on the day! Great job Brody!!! Wrestlers going
undefeated on the day were Jacob Hammond 1-0, Jah-ron Coulson 4-0, Thaddeus Vernon 5-0, and Jr. Salinas 5-0. The boys then traveled to Climax-Scotts for an in-dividual tournament on De-cember 30th. The Cardinals placed 5th out of 19 schools and had five wrestlers bring home medals. Bran Paquette and Isma Salinas placed 5th, Jahron Coulson placed 4th, and Thaddeus Vernon 3rd. Jr. Salinas was the tournament champion at 130 pounds, placing 1st, pinning his way through the tournament. Nice job all wrestlers.
JV GiRLS BASkETBALLThe J.V. Lady Cardinals
basketball team is off to a great start with a 3-2 record. After a disappointing loss to Delton in the first game, the team came back and won the next two against Decatur and Marcellus. Both of these competitions were nail bit-ers; freshman Liza Hutchins clinched the wins at the end with big three pointers in the final seconds. After a loss to Watervliet, the Lady Cardi-nals were hungry for a victo-ry. They played aggressive-ly, implementing a full-court
press against Eau Claire on December 17th and ended up crushing them with a score of 29-8. What a great way to enter their holiday break! The young team is working to develop their fundamental skills and learn how to play together to improve. I have no doubt that as they contin-ue to grow, they will prove to be tough competition for the remainder of their oppo-nents this season. Come out and support your Lady Car-dinals!
–Coach Susie Wales
VARSiTY BOYS BASkETBALLThe 2015-16 season is in
full swing. To this point, we are 6 games into it and we haven’t put a number of value in the left column yet...but we are so very close to turning the cor-ner.
We started off very slow with 2 very disap-pointing losses to Marcellus and Waterv-liet then played the way I envi-sioned us play-ing against Eau Claire...only to lose a heart breaker at the buzzer on a tip in by Eau Claire right before break. We played in the Loy Nor-rix Winter tournament vs Kalamazoo Loy Norrix and Mishawaka Marian but those teams were simply too much for us. We competed tough and were able to take some things from that to help us with the remainder of our schedule.
So now school is back in session and the season con-tinues. We come off break to host Kalamazoo Heritage Christian and lose a Very In-tense game in double over-time. We are seeing improve-ment in all areas of the game
and the effect is there but we have to learn to minimize our mistakes and take advantage of the our teams’ mistakes...among other things.
We have a ton of new faces mixed in with some vets, which is giv-ing the gym great energy. We have been Blessed with 4 home games thus far but now we have to go on the road for 3 straight. We are going
to miss our Student Section but we hope to get some Car-dinals to leave The Nest and follow us to Lawrence, Mar-tin and Bangor.
If you see Devon Asber-ry, Wyatt McNees, Daniel Aaron, Braden Bertuca, Ben Bouwknegt, Austin Mar-tin, William Mills, Gavin Sparks, Tre’Jaun Smith, An-thony Villanueva, Dartrell Brown or Tyler Campbell...PLEASE Thank Them for the Effort and Energy they are putting in to represent Bloomingdale. We don’t have any wins Yet BUT with the work they are putting in...They Are Being Successful! Go Cardinals!
