FISH BITES The Marlins continue their season-opening homestand with the second of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays starting today at 4:10 p.m. Jarred Cosart is making his season debut, and he will go up against the Rays’ Chris Archer, who is making his second start of the season. Today’s National Anthem will be performed by Palmetto Elementary School. Today is Puerto Rican Heritage Day at Marlins Park, and fans are encouraged to bring handheld instruments (through the First Base entrance) to cheer on the Marlins along with the Marlins Pachanga Band. Following tomor- row’s game, Miami will embark on its first road trip of the season, an 11-day, 10-game trek to Atlanta (April 13-15), the Mets (April 16-19) and Philadelphia (April 21-23). LAST NIGHT Miami snapped its three-game season-opening skid with a 10-9, 10-inning walk-off win against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Fish jumped out to an early 8-1 lead after four innings, but the Rays climbed back in to tie the game with a sev- en-run seventh. After Miami went up 8-7 in the eighth, Tampa Bay tied the game again in the ninth before Christian Yelich walked the Marlins off with one out in the 10 th . The top four batters in Miami’s lineup tallied nine hits, three off the bat of Dee Gordon, who has hit safely in each of his four games this season. Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton each drove in three runs, while Michael Morse added two. Gordon tied a career high with four runs scored and marked his first multi-steal game of the year. Dan Haren started for the Fish, allowing one run on four hits (one home run) with two strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. VS. RAYS Through the first game of this series, Miami has taken five-straight against Tampa Bay after sweeping the 2014 series. The five-game win streak comes after the Fish were swept in the four-game 2013 Citrus Series. Miami leads the series at home with a mark of 28-21, while also leading the all-time overall series, 48-46. Over the entirety of this series, only five runs separate the two teams: the Fish have tallied 438 total runs, while the Rays have amassed 443. CHRISTIAN CRUSHES THE AL In 27 games against American League foes, Christian Yelich has posted a career mark of .368 (39x106), which is the highest all-time average in Interleague Play (min. 100 PA), ahead of Aaron Miles (.367), Anthony Rendon (.361) and Wally Joyner (.353). Taking out a .125 (2x16) average against the Rays, Yelich is hitting AL opponents at a .411 (37x90) clip. INTERLEAGUE NOTES Miami’s 2015 Interleague slate has the Fish matching up against the Rays (also September 29-October 1), Orioles (May 22-24), Blue Jays (June 8-10), Yankees (home-and-home from June 15-18) and Red Sox (July 7-8 and August 11-12). The Fish have gone 163-148/.524 all-time against the American League, owning the best Interleague record among National League teams, in front of the St. Louis (143-132/.520), the Mets (157-145/.520) and Atlanta (155-144; .518). The Marlins’ 163 Interleague wins are the most among National League clubs; the Mets rank second with 157, followed by Washington’s 156. All-time in Interleague Play, Miami leads all National League offenses in runs scored (1,438), hits (2,769), doubles (571) and RBI (1,359). The Marlins’ best single-season mark in Interleague Play came in 1997, when they went 12-3. FREE RANGE Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton were the first Marlins outfield trio to make consecutive Open- ing Day starts since Jeff Conine, Chuck Carr and Gary Sheffield in 1994-95. Last season, the triumvirate combined on a .280 average, 255 runs scored, 87 doubles, 12 triples, 69 home runs and 244 RBI. Miami’s trio was the first outfield with an average age younger than 24 to put up such numbers since the 1987 Texas Rangers, when Ruben Sierra, Oddibe McDowell and Pete Incaviglia averaged 23 years, 171 days and had 71 homers, 241 RBI and 247 runs scored for the season. - Stats, LLC RED DAWN BREAKING In two years at the helm of the Marlins, Mike Redmond has amassed a 140-188 record, already the fifth-most games as manager in Marlins history. In 2014, he guided the Club to a historic turnaround from their 100-loss campaign in 2013. Miami won 77 games last season, making Redmond just the seventh manager in MLB history to lose 100 games in his first season and improve by 15-plus wins in his second season (same team only). Jarred Cosart is starting his first full season with Miami, coming over in July 31 trade last season with Houston. In 10 starts with Fish, posted a 4-4 record and 2.39 ERA (64.0 ip/17 er). Completed season with a combined mark of 13-11 with a 3.69 ERA in 30 starts.

Is making fourth career start and appearance against Tampa Bay, post-ing a 3-0 record and 1.17 ERA (23.0/3). Last faced Rays on June 20, 2014 at Tropicana Field, tossing 8.0 scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out two.
