To Install Star Wars Battlefront II, insert the DVD into your DVD-ROM drive.If you have Autorun enabled, the game’s Launcher will appear. Click the Installbutton to install the game onto your computer. If your computer does not haveAutorun enabled, open My Computer from your Windows desktop and double-click on the DVD-ROM drive showing the Star Wars Battlefront II icon.Double-click on the program icon top start installing the program. Oncestarted, a series of onscreen instructions will guide you through the rest ofthe installation procedure. If you experience problems with the installation,click Help on the game’s launcher screen, and then click View TroubleshootingGuide. When first starting the game, you must create a profile. The profiles are used tosave Single player games and to save option settings.

DIFFICULTY MODESNORMAL: Auto Target, Aim Assist and Sticky default to ON.ELITE: Auto Target, Aim Assist and Sticky Reticle to OFF.The enemy is more aggressive and accurate.

Star Wars Battlefront II offers epic action on a galactic scale through multiple gametypes. There are many ways to conquer the opposition. Before stepping onto thebattlefield, each player selects a class with unique abilities. In deep space or onthe planet’s surface, players work to advance and gain territory, taking outenemies and capturing their Command Posts. Missions also have key objectivesthat must be completed in order to achieve victory.

GAME OPTIONS

Viewpoint Allows you to choose between first orthird person viewpoint when playing asinfantry.

Friendly FireTurn this ON or OFF to determinewhether units on the same team candamage each other.

Auto Target When this is set to ON, the playerwill track an enemy automaticallywhenever he is hit with a weapon.

Tool TipsThis option allows you to toggle the ingame tips to AUTO (tool tips displayonly once), ON, or OFF.

Reset Tool TipsSelect this to make all tool tipsdisplay again.

Always Show Objective DetailsThis toggles the appearance ofMission Objective text ON or OFF.

Target Information: The name of yourcurrently highlighted target will appearalong with a health bar. Friendly targets appear blue, enemies appear red, and mission objectives and native factions will appear yellow.

Target Reticle: When the reticle isover a friendly unit it will turn Blue; if it ispointed at an enemy it will turn Red.Tick marks around the interior of the reticle indicate the ammo remaining in your currentclip. Some weapons generate heat, whichwill appear as a circular bar within thereticle. If a weapon overheats you mustwait until it cools to fire again. Reload/Recharge time is indicated by five dots at the bottom, or around the edges of the reticle.

Objective Indicator: Indicates the next objective in order to complete the mission.

Primary Weapon/Ammo: The icon on the left shows the weapon equipped. Scrolling using the Directional Buttons you can scroll through your primary and sec-ondary weapons. The numbers represent the total amount of ammo remaining.

Secondary Weapon/Ammo: The icon on the left shows the weapon equipped. Scrolling using the Directional Buttons you can scroll through your primary and sec-ondary weapons. The numbers repre-sent the total amount of ammo remaining.

Health: Represents how much damage youcan take before you become another statistic inthe Galactic Database.

Power Meter: This bar is depleted by sprinting,rolling, or jumping and recharges over time.Vehiclescan use this power for speed boosts and evasivemaneuvers. Jedi Force Powers also draw fromthis bar.

Reinforcement Meter: The numbersrepresent the reinforcements remaining foreach faction. The player’s faction appears Blueand the enemy is Red. For more information,see Reinforcements, page 13. During Capturethe Flag games, this meter is replaced by ascore keeper.

Mini-Map: See page 11 for information.

Vehicle Position Indicator: In vehicleswith multiple positions, your position will beindicated by a yellow triangle. Allies in thevehicle will appear as purple octagons.

This displays your location relative to the environment. The white triangledesignates your position and facing direction, while blue triangles indicate friendlyunits and red triangles indicate enemies. Yellow triangles represent native species,which may or may not be hostile depending on your faction. The trianglesrepresenting units will flash if they're taking damage. Command Posts appear asringed dots, coloured blue for friendly, red for enemy, and white for neutral.Objects that can be used as cover appear light grey. Turrets appear as white dotswith a line indicating facing. Unoccupied vehicles appear as white silhouettes;occupied vehicles are silhouettes of the appropriate colour.

The map spins to orient its position relative to the direction that the player isfacing when in the default mode. There will always be a white triangle just beyondthe edge of the map indicating north. When the map is enlarged (by pressing theM key), it remains static regardless of the player's facing.

Command Posts and Objectives are always displayed even if they are beyond theradius of the map. They will appear at the edge of the map indicating the directionthe player will need to travel to get to them.

By pressing the M key, the map will expand to full screen to show the entirebattlefield and all Command Posts. This will also display your mission objectives.Pressing the M key again will restore the map to its default position.

Each battlefield contains tactical positions in key locations across the mapknown as Command Posts, which are vital because:

❮ Reinforcements are deployed at them. Whenever a player dies, any friendly Command Post is available to deploy at. If a team has no commandposts under its control, it cannot deploy reinforcements until a Command Post is recaptured.

❮ If a team controls the majority of the Command Posts on a map, the opposing team will begin losing reinforcements automatically. If a teamcontrols all of the Command Posts on a map, a victory timer will startcounting down.

❮ Units can change their class at any friendly Command Post, allowing adaptability to battle conditions. Press the E key when near a friendly Command Post to change classes. There is a small penalty for switch-ing classes: your ammo will not be completely replenished.

C O M M A N D P O S T O W N E R S H I P

To capture an enemy or neutral Command Post, you must stand within itscapture radius. An icon will appear on screen if you are close enough. If thereare no enemy units nearby, the capture icon will slowly change colour from redto white to blue. When the capture icon is completely blue, the CommandPost will now belong to your team.

The rate of capture increases if additional friendly units are nearby. Ifenemy units approach, the capture icon will alternate between blue and red untilone side is driven off. You cannot capture a Command Post while in a vehicle.

Some Command Posts are permanently owned and cannot be captured bythe opposing team. Some of these can be destroyed. Only human players canrepair these destructible Command Posts. Destructible Command Postsappear on the map as diamonds instead of dots.

Certain vehicles, such as the Imperial AT-AT, are Mobile Command Posts.Mobile Command Posts cannot be captured, but can be destroyed, in whichcase they will reappear after a set amount of time.

In other game modes like CTF, and Assault, there are Command Posts thatallow switching out of character classes but are not capturable. These areindicated by two arrows circling themselves. They will still be colouredappropriately so only friendly team members can switch out classes.

Reinforcement Points represent the number of reinforcements that eachteam can field.They are displayed in the reinforcement meter near themini-map. The blue and red numbers represent friendly and enemyreinforcements respectively.

Units can continue to join the game as long as two conditions are met: thereare Reinforcement Points remaining, and at least one Command Post is owned.

When a unit dies, it takes one point off its team's reinforcement total. Anynumber of units can still deploy as long as one reinforcement point remains.However, if the Reinforcement Points reach zero, the team loses. Duringsome campaign missions, one or both teams will have infinite reinforcements.

For Singleplayer games, you can deploy immediately after dying. Inmultiplayer games, a reinforcement timer is set for the map. Each time thetimer counts down, reinforcements are deployed for both sides.

When the number of reinforcements matches the number of units on thefield, that team will no longer lose reinforcements automatically. This is trueeven if that team has two or fewer Command Posts controlled. This is done tomake sure that victory is earned by defeating all enemy units in combat orby capturing and holding all Command Posts on a map. In addition, AI unitswill no longer respawn when killed at this stage of thegame. This rule provides human players with the mostopportunities to affect the outcome of the game.

REBEL SOLDIERThe Rebel soldier is effective againstinfantry, especially when they employsquad-based tactics.Equipment: blaster rifle, blasterpistol, and thermal detonators.REBEL VANGUARDVanguards are called upon to punchholes in an Imperial vehicle brigade.The heavy weapons they carryprovide the means to take downmenacing enemy air and groundvehicles. Equipment: rocket launcher,blaster pistol, thermal detonators,and mines.REBEL MARKSMANRebel marksmen have thespecialised task of finding andeliminating targets from a safelocation. Their recon droids arecapable of deadly self-destructionnear enemy positions.Equipment: sniper rifle, blasterpistol, thermal detonators, and autoturret dispenser.REBEL SMUGGLERWhenever there is a need to slippast an Imperial fleet undetected,just look for a smuggler. For a fee,the smuggler is willing to take therisk of running contraband right underthe Emperor's nose. The smuggler canalso repair items as well as slice enemiesout of vehicles using his fusion cutter. Inaddition to this, he can also destroyenemy mines quickly and is invisible toenemy mines.Equipment: shotgun, fusion cutter,detpack, and health/ammo dispenser.

BOTHAN SPYThe cunning Bothans are knownthroughout the galaxy for their spyingcapabilities. On the battlefield theysneak behind enemy lines, causingchaos and wreaking havoc, and thenfade into the environment. The BothanSpy also has the unique ability toregenerate health.Equipment: incinerator, stealth, areadamage over time, and timebomb.WOOKIEE WARRIORThe Wookiees joined the RebelAlliance after the Empire invadedtheir home planet, Kashyyyk, andenslaved their people. Wookiees fightwith unmatched ferocity and loyallysupport troops with health and ammo. Equipment: bowcaster, grenadelauncher, thermal detonators, andremote droid.REBEL PILOT (Space Only)Rebel pilots automatically regeneratethe health of whatever vehicle theyoccupy and are capable of repairingdamaged vehicles, droids and turrets.Theyalso carry a powerful timebomb.Equipment: commando pistol, fusioncutter, and timebomb.REBEL MARINE (Space Only)Rebel Marines provide the last line ofdefence on capital ships, repellingenemy attacks with heavy ordnance.Equipment: blaster rifle, rocket launcher,and thermal detonator.

STORMTROOPERThe iron will of the Emperor ispersonified in the stark white armourof the feared stormtrooper.They arehighly disciplined and fanatically loyalto the Emperor, making them anexcellent front line assault force.Equipment: blaster rifle, blasterpistol, thermal detonators.SHOCK TROOPERThe shock trooper offers powerfulsupport to the blaster-based troopsby carrying a small portable missilelauncher. This weapon fires explosivecharges that are highly effectiveagainst vehicles or tight formationsof infantry.Equipment: rocket launcher, blasterpistol, thermal detonators, andmines.SCOUT TROOPERScout troopers use concealment, probedroids and patience to target farawayenemies and eliminate them with theirhigh-powered sniper rifles. Their recondroids can self-destruct in a mightyblast, decimating enemy forces.Equipment: sniper rifle, blaster pistol,thermal detonators, and auto turretdispenser.IMPERIAL ENGINEERThe Empire’s engineers focus onrepairing friendly equipment andestablishing defenses, while workingto demolish the emplacements of theRebellion. Equipment: blast cannon, fusioncutter, detpack, and health/ammodispenser.

IMPERIAL OFFICERThese Imperial tacticians support thetroops in the field with a mortarlauncher capable of levelling rebelresistance. The officer’s unique trainingallows for increased weapon damage.Officers also carry extra health andammo supplies into battle.Equipment: mortar launcher rage,,Geonosian sonic gun, and remote droid.DARK TROOPERDark troopers use their jetpacks to"jump" to their targets (tap theSPACE bar to jump, then tap again toengage the jump pack). Once inposition, their charged arc castercan scorch groups of enemies.Equipment: arc caster, commandopistol, and thermal detonators.IMPERIAL PILOT (Space Only)Imperial pilots automaticallyregenerate the health of whatevervehicle they occupy and are capableof repairing damaged vehicles,droids and turrets. They also serveas capital ship saboteurs.Equipment: commando pistol, fusioncutter, and timebomb.IMPERIAL MARINE (Space Only)The Empire’s Star Destroyers arefortified with these fearless trooperswho repel any invading forces. CLONE COMMANDERThe commanders are speciallydesigned to lead the clone troops intobattle. They can temporarily empowernearby ranks with confidence. Equipment: chaingun, blaster pistol,rally, and remote droid. JET TROOPERThis highly mobile trooper has a jetpack that allows brief but rapidbursts of flight (tap the X button tojump, then tap again a short flight).He is a master at ambushes anddisruption with his EMP launcher.Equipment: EMP launcher, commandopistol, and thermal detonators.CLONE PILOT (Space Only)These troops have the unique abilityto automatically repair any vehiclethey occupy. They can also repairvehicles, droids, and turrets on thefield with their fusion cutters, as wellas set up powerful timed explosives.Equipment: commando pistol, fusioncutter, and timebomb.CLONE MARINE (Space Only)The clone marines are similar tostandard clone troopers, but carry arocket launcher for versatility againstdifferent targets. SUPER BATTLE DROIDAfter the debacle at the Battle ofNaboo, the Trade Federation ordereda stronger, more independent battledroid, officially designated the B2.Resembling hulking, reinforced battledroids, super battle droids are farsuperior to their skeletal-lookingcounterparts. Equipment: wrist blaster, tri shot, andwrist rocket.ASSAULT DROIDUnder the control of the Separatists,assault droids serve as a cheap yeteffective solution to the fast-movingthreat of Republic vehicles. MAGNAGUARDThese enhanced droids serve toprotect important figures in the CISarmy, such as General Grievous.Their deadly neuro poison can crippleany enemies in a radius around them. Equipment: bulldog RLR, radiationlauncher, neuro poison, and remotedroid.DROIDEKA (DESTROYER DROID)Even feared by Jedi Knights, thecrablike droideka is equipped with apersonal shield and two powerfulrepeating blasters instead of arms.The droideka transforms into a wheelin order to cruise rapidly around thebattlefield.Equipment: repeating blasters andshield emitter.PILOT DROID (Space Only)Pilot droids automatically regeneratethe health of whatever vehicle theyoccupy and are capable of repairingdamaged vehicles, droids andturrets.They also carry deadlyexplosives for disabling enemy ships.Equipment: commando pistol, fusioncutter, and timebomb.DROID MARINE (Space Only)The droid marine is an all-purposefighting machine designed to driveback enemy boarding parties.Equipment: blaster rifle, rocketlauncher, and thermal detonator.

Throughout the game, players will have the opportunity to play as theincredibly powerful hero characters. When certain conditions have been met,a prompt will appear on-screen indicating to the player that a hero is nowavailable. The player will have a limited amount of time to take advantage ofthe hero, as indicated by the glowing Hero Bar. Taking damage will reduce thetime remaining on the hero bar, but defeating enemies will increase it. Askillful player will be able to prolong their time with these unique classes. Eachhero has an array of unique powers and abilities that can be used to dominatethe battlefield. When a hero is defeated, it will leave the battlefield, and may respawn later in the match.

There are several distinct classes ofvehicles that can be piloted, rangingfrom fast speeder bikes to fearsomeAT-AT walkers. Because there are novehicle repair droids on the map,your engineers become a vital part ofthe battle.SCOUT VEHICLESThis type of ground vehicle is fastand light.They can zip across thebattlefield at great speed and are notmeant for heavy combat. They arearmed and armoured, but only lightlyto give some minimal protection.This type includes the 74-Z speederbike, Tauntaun, and the STAP.MEDIUM ASSAULT VEHICLESThese vehicles have heavier weaponsand armour, and are slower than theScout craft, but they pack morepower and durability. This typeincludes the Rebel combatlandspeeder, TX-130S fighter tank,AAT, and the Armoured Tank Droid.HEAVY ASSAULT VEHICLESThese vehicles are even more heavilyarmed and armoured, and are usedat the front of most assaults.Thistype includes the Spider Droid andAT-ST.HEAVY ASSAULT TRANSPORTThese lumbering behemoths canunload devastating amounts offirepower on a target, as well asserving as mobile CommandPosts.This type includes the AT-TE,and the AT-AT.MULTI-PURPOSE STARFIGHTERSThese craft are well-rounded and versatile,making them handy in a dogfight or astrafing run. They have forward firingblasters and a complement of missiles.Starfighters can use a limited boost to

increase their speed (press and holdthe Shift key). Also, they can performevasive maneuvers. To perform a barrelroll, press the C key, then move the leftanalog stick in the direction you want toroll. To perform a loop, double-tap theC key before moving the mouse. This typeincludes the ARC-170, droidstarfighter, X-wing, and TIE fighter.

SCOUT FIGHTERSNimble and lightning fast. They aredevastating in dogfights, but don’tcarry the heavy ordnance or armourto survive attacking a Capital Ship.These ships include the RepublicStarfighter, Droid Tri-fighter, A-wing,and TIE interceptor.BOMBERSThese ships are not as fast as thestarfighter class, but they carrypowerful ordnance and armour forassaulting capital shipemplacements. Many of thesevehicles feature more than oneposition, allowing multiple units toteam up and take full advantage oftheir firepower.This type includes theV-wing, CIS Strike Bomber, Y-wing, andTIE bomber.ATTACK TRANSPORT FLYERSThis type acts as attack craft andtroop transports in battle. Like theHeavy Assault Transports, theseships will act as spawn points foryour team when they are on theground. This type includes theRepublic Gunship, CIS gunship, andImperial Lander.

This is a single mission that teaches youthrough the general mechanics ofgameplay. It includes all the types ofobjectives that you will encounter in thecampaign.

R I S E O F T H E E M P I R E

This mode follows the storyline of theEmpire’s rise to power.

G A L A C T I C C O N Q U E S T

In this mode the player uses strategy totake control of planets and dominatethe Galaxy. First you choose a mapconfiguration based on the conflictsfrom both eras of Star Wars history.There are four galactic configurations,one for each of the four factions. Youwill begin each campaign with twobase planets and one fleet. To win,you must conquer each of theenemy’s bases and defeat their fleets.The game ends if all your bases andfleets are lost.

The game is played in turns, withthe player starting first. Each turn isdivided into three phases:ACQUISITIONDuring the first phase you can spendthe credits that you have earnedthrough victory in battle to constructnew fleets, recruit new unit classes, orpurchase bonuses. Additional fleets canbe constructed at an open friendly baseplanet. When you begin the campaign,only the basic soldier class will beavailable to your team. New units canbe recruited during any turn and willpermanently join your forces. You canalso purchase up to three bonuses atany time. A Bonus can be used before a

battle to enhance your forces, or tocripple the enemy’s.MOVEMENT/COMBATAfter making purchases you will select afleet and move it, or choose to end yourturn. If you move your fleet into emptyspace, or onto a friendly base, your turnwill end. If you move your fleet into aspace occupied by an enemy fleet, or anenemy base, you will engage the enemyin combat.Fleet to fleet combat will occurin space, assaults on an enemy base willoccur on the planetary map. Beforeattacking the enemy, you will have theoption to select a battle mode, and thenplay a bonus card (if any are available).Battle ends when either fleet isdestroyed, or the planet is captured.SUMMARYAt the end of a turn there is a summaryscreen displaying the status of theentire galaxy, including how many planetsyou control and how many fleets you’vedeployed.This is useful for planning yournext turn. Once your turn is complete,the enemy will proceed through the samethree phases, completing the round.

I N S T A N T A C T I O N

This mode allows you to jump right intoa battle of your choice. There aremultiple instant action game typesavailable in Star Wars Battlefront II,and each can be customised in thegame options before launching.CONQUESTIn conquest mode, victory is achievedby capturing all Command Posts onthe battlefield, or by defeating allopposing reinforcements. This is theclassic Star Wars Battlefront mode.

S A V I N G A N D L O A D I N GThe game will automatically give you the option to save your game whencompleting a mission in the Rise of the Empire or upon completing a turn inCampaign mode. In campaign mode you will also have the option to Save andLoad from the pause menu during your turn. You will also be prompted to saveyour game whenever you alter any options, in which case the data will besaved to your profile.

M U L T I P L A Y E R

This mode allows you to compete against other players on a LAN (Local AreaNetwork) or over the Internet.

When selecting the multiplayer option, you will first need to select anetwork connection. Once you choose your connection, you can then choosefrom two different ways to connect to a multiplayer game. If you have a firewallactive and are having difficulty connecting, please visit www.gamespy.com forinformation.

NOTE: If you choose to host a multiplayer game yourself, you will have a choiceof dedicated or non-dedicated mode. Hosting in dedicated mode means thatyour PC will be able to provide a more stable multiplayer environment,however you cannot use it to play in the game it is hosting. Hosting in non-dedicated mode allows you to play while hosting, but the game may notperform as well.Performance and stability are also affected by bandwidth andthe number of AI characters in a game. It is recommended that you reducethe number of players and AI characters if you are not running in dedicatedmode and/or do not have high bandwidth.

Select this option if you wish to connect with other players across theinternet.You will have the option to login to the GameSpy matchmaking servicewhere your statistics will be tracked and posted to a leaderboard. You will beable to narrow your game search based on Max. Players, Max. Ping, Map,Era, Server Type, and Game Name.

1-FLAG CTFPlayers score points by returning theflag to the enemy base. Victory is achievedwhen a predetermined score is met.2-FLAG CTFThis is different than 1-Flag mode.You capture the enemy flag and returnit to the friendly base to score.HUNT

In this mode, the hunting teamattempts to eliminate the entirehunted team within the time limit. Ifthe hunted team survives until the endof the match, they will be victorious.ASSAULT Victory is secured by scoring points;points are scored by destroyingenemy units and objects.

HOST OPTIONSDEDICATED SERVER: Toggles running dedicated/non-dedicated mode.MAX PLAYERS: Allows you to set the maximum number of players allowed in thegame.WARM-UP: Select the duration of the warm-up mode before each battle.VOTING THRESHOLD: This option allows the host to determine the number of votesnecessary to boot a player from the game.TEAM DAMAGE: Toggle the ability for players to cause damage to teammates.AIM ASSIST: Toggles assisted aiming for all players.SHOW PLAYER NAMES: Toggles the display of player names over their charactersin game.TEAMS: This can be toggled between Auto Assign, which automatically evenly distributesplayers between the two teams as they join the game, or Player Select, which allowsplayers to choose their team when they join.MIN PLAYERS TO START: Sets the minimum number of players that need to join beforethe game begins. The AI units will not begin fighting until this number has been reached.PUBLIC GAME: Toggle the game between public and private mode.

GameSpy is an Internet matchmaking system which allows you to find games onthe Internet. When selecting this option you will be asked to login to GameSpy orcreate a new GameSpy ID profile. It is not necessary to use a profile but doing soallows score tracking. To create a profile you must create a GameSpy nickname(the default is your Star Wars Battlefront II profile name), designate a valid e-mailaddress (which will be used to send you your password if you forget it), and choosea password. You can also set this screen to remember some or all of thisinformation for logging in quickly. Once you log in you will be presented with thesame options as in LAN mode.

Select this option if you want to connect to a game on your Local Area Network.The game will take a few moments to bring up the list of available multiplayergames.This should take no longer than 30 seconds.Check to make sure there areno connection problems if it takes longer.

SERVER LISTIn the game list there are several categories to describe each game:FAV: Indicates favourite servers in the Internet lobby.GAME NAME: Shows the name of the game, as set by the host.IN/MAX: Shows the number of players currently in the game, and the totalpossible players.MAP: Indicates the map currently being played on the server.PING: Displays the quality of your connection to the server

SERVER NOTE: Dedicated servers will run better than non-dedicated. Lower pingresults in faster response times between a player’s actions and when they occurin game. If a server is password locked, a padlock icon will appear next to theping indicator.

When highlighting a particular game, the game options set by the host will bedisplayed in the Game Info window below the game list.

Certain accomplishments are tracked in the game. If a player accomplishescertain goals within the course of one life (such as 6 headshots with a sniper rifle),he will earn a medal.

By accumulating Medals players begin to unlock the different levels of an award.Everyone starts out as Green (level 0). After gaining a Medal 4 times in one categorythe player will advance to Veteran (Level 1) Status. Once the player has attained aVeteran status in any one of the Medal categories then the Award becomes available. Ifthe Award is gained, the Award will stay with that player for one life. In addition, whilethe Bonus is active the award cannot be accrued again. Heroes will not be eligible forthese Bonuses as the Hero himself is enough of an award.The Private, Sergeant,Captain and General rankings reflect the general total of Medals the player hasaccumulated in his lifetime.

In Single Player games, these Awards will be tracked over the career and anythingunlocked will be available in all modes.

In Multiplayer games, the Server Host will have the choice of activating or deactivatingAwards in their game session. However, at that point they will be equally available to allplayers.
