Discussion of Anomalies Wa-2-4 and Wa-2-4a

Anomalies Wa-2-4 and Wa-2-4a (Fig. 6) are located approximately half a kilometer south-west of Big Marsh Lake in township 30, Range 26 and are accessible^ by truck from an old road which leaves highway j? 17 some 35 kilometers north of Wawa.

i

Five linns of anomaly Wa-2-4 and- all of anomaly Wa-2-4a are underla: by a small lake, however, the few exposures examined indicate that th^ area is almost totally underlain by metasediments - argillite, slate, chlorite-biotite schist, and a felsite - some of which coulcl be reworked intermediate to felsic metavolcanics (personal communi cation - F. Van Thournout). Metabasalt outcropped only on line 12 west, 4 south. r

Pyrite is present in trace amounts in all units.

Conclusions

Geological mapping failed to, explain other Wa-2-4, a seven line weal to moderate conductor with a'moderate flirting magnetic anomaly or Wa-2-4a. a four line moderate 'to strong conductor with a moderates flirting magnetic association.

To determine the exact nature of these conductors and their magneti* associations, the scheduled hole on line 'O, 3*40 north, bearing 220 at -45 should be drilled:

The geological environment does not seem to have high base metal potential and hence this drill' hole should have a low priority.

The rock is fine-grained, grey, massive and is composed of detrital quartz and feldspar with minor chloritized mafics and carbonates. Locally, the rock is weakly banded (5 C.N.). Minor thin bands of interbedded and thinly laminated graphitic shale and siltstone occur in this section.

This section if mainly composed of graphitic shale. The laminations vary in thickness from 0.2 mm. to 4mm, are white to grey to black, have a banded structure 10 C.N. and locally exhibit intrastratal flowage. Calcite occurs throughout the section in the form of streaks, patches and films along shearing and bedding planes.

Sulphides.:- minor specks and fine disseminations of py, po and minor cpy, sph.

Metasediment; GraywackeThis unit is similar to the above graywacke and has a weakobanding (5-10 C.N.)

This section is almost entirely composed on black graphitic shale. Laminations vary in thickness from 0.2 mm. to 5 mm. and give a banded appearance (10 C.N.). Locally, intrastratal flowage structure is prominent. Numerous 3 cm,, 0.3 m. and l m. grey wacke dykes occur throughout the section. Introduction

The purpose of the ampping was to explain a 7-line conductor with a moderate magnetic association.

Location

The anomaly (fig. 5) is located in Township 30, Range 26, east of Big Marsh Lake, near the Magpie Mine Road.

Trenchr

An 18 foot trench located on BL-O, 6 15N has been opened during a previous exploration programme.

Disseminated pyrite occurs throughout and makes up 5-10% by volume of the siliceous banded magnetite formation which is striking .275 and dipping 70 .

The introduction of hydrothermal fluids causing strong silicification and some sericilization has probably been facilitated by shearing of the rock.

Conclusion and Recommendations

The magnetic association is probably due to the iron formation. The observed disseminated pyrite and the associated cilteration may indi cate a more important massive mineralization along the shear zone at depth causing the E.M. conductor.

The exposures in the trench have been sampled (no. 09 05) and shoulc be assayed for base metals. If positive (anomalous) results are obtained, the conductor should be drilled.

Discussion of Anomalies V'a-2-7 and Wa-2-7a !

Anomalies Wa-2-7 and Wa-2-7a (fig. 7) are located in Township 30, Range 26, some 6 kilometers east of highway i? 17 along the Magpie Road. Mapping revealed that the area is underlain by mafic meta- volcanics, tuffs and lapilli tuffs, and metasocliments. A mafic intrusive with d orj.te and gabbro phases trends north-south and cuts these units. The mafic metabasalt is silicified in places generally close to the mafic intrusive. However, this could be a contact metamorphic affect.

Pyrite and pyrrhotite are present in trace amounts in most of the units, but anomalous amounts v/ere not seen.

Conclusions '

Anomaly Wa-2-7 is located in a low swampy area. The conductor transects the metasediment, metavolcanic, and mafic intrusive units and could be interpreted as a fault.

Anomaly Wa-3-7a lies again within all those units, however out crop was not found along the conductor.

It is recommended that both conductors be drilled to determine the exact nature of the conductive material. It is conceivable that sulphides could be concentrated along the contact of the mafic intrusive.

The recommended drill hole is located on line 2 west, l north at -45 , be:aring
