In the Gospel: John 10:11-18 Jesus begins with the very first step in the evangelization of the world. And the step begins with the words, “I am the Good Shepherd. I know you and you know me. I lay my life down for you, and I call you in to my mission and my work. “And you must not be afraid, for you are not alone, but I am with you and I send you into the whole world to preach the Good News. “And the Good News is all is forgiven, come back to God and once again be restored to the great dignity that had been, and has been, bestowed upon you. “For God has created you not for this life only, but for eternal life.” Preaching the Gospel has many, many mean-ings, but perhaps the best meaning is when it’s said that we preach more, we’re more successful when we preach the Gospel more by what we do than what we say. Words somehow kind of are floated out into the empty air, but a person’s life, how he lives, and what he does, and his relationships, and the way he faces obstacles and disappointments. And the way he faces with great graciousness the gifts of God that have made him one with the Father, one with the Son and one with the Holy Spirit, truly the children of God. These are very precious things and this is what we mean when we say that the whole world must be evangelized to come to know the love of God, the truth of God, the caring of God, the compas-sion of God. Today, the Good Shepherd calls us to know him and to love him, to share in his mission of healing and salvation for all the peoples of the world.

April 16, 2021 [email protected] The following guidance is from the Pandemic Response Team: Archdiocese of Boston REVISION TO COVID PROTOCOLS – April 16, 2021 This document is in two parts. The first part has one protocol that is effective immediately. The second part has several protocols which, if the numbers trend in the right direction from now to mid-May, will become effective on Pentecost Sunday. We will provide you final guidance during the week leading up to Pentecost Sunday, but no later than Thursday, May 20th. Effective Immediately Parishes may carefully plan and hold processions. There can be an entrance and recessional procession, involving the priest, the deacon, and any appropri-ate liturgical ministers, as long as all of the people in the procession and all of the congregation are wearing masks. Ministers in the procession should maintain a six-foot distance from each other in every case. Outdoor processions, such as May Processions and Corpus Christi Processions, can also be held, within the same masking and distancing guidelines. To maintain distance in an outdoor procession, careful shep-herding of the procession will be required.

If a pastor feels that this is not a safe practice in his particular church or community, he can space congregants further apart. Nothing in this should be read to mean that we are going from six feet to three feet for distancing. Six feet of distance is still the norm. The March 22 new State Guidelines: On March 22, Governor Baker released a new guideline for meetings in public spaces. Effective immediately, 100 people can gather for indoor meetings, and 150 people can gather for outdoor meetings. In our case, meetings are things like faith for-mation, youth ministry, Bible studies, council meetings, support groups, and other like events. This does not apply to worship - all of the previous guidelines still govern worship. It should be emphasized that in these meetings: · Six feet of distance must still be maintained be-tween participants · Masks must be worn covering the mouth and the nose · Ventilation must be as thorough as possible · Surfaces should be sanitized after the meeting · Food should not be served Notes on Faith Formation: As parishes are closing out their faith formation year and are adapting to the new policies, we are no longer requiring approved safety plans. We strongly encourage a parish to have a local safety plan for faith formation, and we are happy to help. The address [email protected] is still active, and is still a good way to get faith formation questions answered or to raise con-cerns. Temperature checks are no longer required in par-ish faith formation programs. The only remaining situation for requiring temperature checks is for Masses in parishes that are in the red zone. We know that many of you are intent upon making summer plans. We hope that the above guidance helps you in this. We will continue to provide up-dates as they are available.

The following guidance is from the Pandemic Response Team of the

Archdiocese of Boston: Clarification on the question of skipping one pew: Questions were raised at the priest webinar on Mon-day about the practice of skipping one pew. Here is the protocol, stated perhaps more clearly: Most parishes can seat people in every other pew, because in most churches, there is very nearly six feet of distance between the back of one pew and the back of another pew with one skipped in the middle. Within the pew, household members can sit close to one another, but everyone else needs to keep six feet distance from one another.
