Bmus (hons) PoPular music PerformanceDrums, Vocals, Guitar & Bassucas coDe: w315

This course is designed for aspiring drummers, guitarists, bassists and vocalists who wish to develop their technical, performance and musicianship skills to a professional level. The programme combines high-level instrumental/vocal study with the opportunity to engage with music technology, songwriting and a wide range of modern music styles.

Graduates will be ready to pursue careers as artists, musical directors and session, touring and theatrical musicians as well as arrangers/composers. Live performance is central to the programme and students participate in weekly Live Performance Workshops (LPWs) in all three years. LPWs give students the opportunity to perform on stage with their fellow students while receiving expert guidance from BIMM’s teaching staff.

Instrumental Techniques are also studied in all three years and this enables students to continually refine and enhance their approach to their instrument/voice with the aim of achieving

a level of fluency that will meet the demands of any musical situation.

Year One: In year one, students address the essential music skills that will underpin not only the rest of their studies but also their future career. This includes investigating and performing a wide range of music and developing an understanding of music theory, music technology and the music business.

Year Two: Year two requires students to apply their skills to increasingly ‘real-world’ scenarios while studying the cultural heritage of popular music. Students also have the chance to select optional modules that allow them to specialise in either music technology or arranging/composing.

Year Three: Year three has increased optionality with students able to choose the suite of modules that will enable them to make the transition from student to professional. Third-year projects include the self-directed final Performance Project at a top London venue.

BankinGIf you are moving to the uK for the first time you will probably want to set up a bank account. You should ask for advice from the bank in your home country. Many have agreements with banks in the uK and can assist you with opening an account before you leave your home. To open an account you may need to complete a bank application form and provide your passport, a letter from BIMM and proof of your address.

workinG in lonDonEu students are able to work while studying. Students from outside the uK will need to get a National Insurance (NI) number. You can find further information about how to be issued an NI number at hmrc.gov.uk/ni/intro/number.htm. uK Border Agency guidelines state that international students holding Tier 4 visas studying at BIMM do not currently have any working rights.

stuDent loansfor most stuDents stuDyinG a DeGree-leVel course, tuition fees can Be coVereD By a stuDent loan. Bimm lonDon are aBle to offer loans throuGh the stuDent loans comPany.

Both uK and Eu students are eligible to apply for a student loan. You can find out more information on the guidelines and how to apply for a student loan at www.slc.co.uk. The government also provides useful information on student finance at www.gov.uk/student-finance.

BIMM have been fully QAA assessed which is a requirement of the government to be able to offer student loans on a continuing basis.

Student loans for Tuition fees provided by the Student Loan Company will cover a maximum of £6,000 of fees per annum if you are eligible for a loan. Where the annual course fees are in excess of £6,000, the balance must be paid by the student prior to enrolling each academic year.

rePaymentsYour repayments are linked to your income. You only make repayments when your income is over £21,000 a year, and if your income drops below this amount repayments stop. Each month you pay back 9% of any income over £21,000, this would work out at approximately £30 per month if you were earning £25,000 per year.

For more information on loans or any queries you may have on tuition fees and student finance please contact the BIMM Finance team on +44 (0)208 749 3131 or by emailing [email protected]
