ofofGeneral Information
The month of November falls at the start of winter in North India and the weather is normally pleasant requiring light woolen wear especially during nights.
The past glory of education and erudition of Varanasi is being kept alive by Banaras Hindu University founded by Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916. Soon after the establishment of the university department of Ayurveda was opened, which enhanced to the status of the College in 1927. Years later, in 1960 the Ayurvedic College was converted to the College of Medical Sciences with Professor K.N. Uduppa as its founder principal and finally reached to a landmark by the foundation of the Institute of Medical Sciences in 1971. The Institute of Medical Sciences constitutes three faculties, i.e. Faculty of Modern Medicine, Faculty of Dental Sciences, and Faculty of Ayurveda, and a School of Nursing. The three functions of the IMS are to impart quality education in undergraduate, postgraduate and super specialty medical and paramedical courses, to be a trend-setter in medical research and to offer patient care of high order.
Varanasi, with its ancient name Kashi and Banaras, is one of the oldest living cities in the world and is located on the left bank of holy river Ganga. By railway route it is well connected from New Delhi (764km), Kolkata (677km) and Mumbai (1476km); also it is connected by roads and air services from different parts of India. The current population of Varanasi Urban Agglomeration is 1.45 million (2011 census), spread over and area of 119.50 sq. km. Besides being a cultural and religious centre of India, it remained from the ancient times a great seat of learning.

Dear colleague/s,
Banaras Hindu University is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of our
founder Pt Madan Mohan Malviya. To commemorate this event we are organizing the
46th National Conference of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunology
at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, during
2 - 4th November 2012.
You are aware that Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunology are assuming
critical problems in diagnostic and clinical medicine. Significant developments have
been made in understanding the basic aspects of disorders caused through allergy and
asthma, and the numbers of offending agents are considered responsible in the
etiopathogensis of different disorders especially in India and South Asia.
Allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma are important health problems because
of their prevalence and their impact on the patients' social life, school performance, and
work productivity. Allergic rhinitis represents a global health problem affecting 10% to
20% of the population. In fact, allergic rhinitis accounts for more than 50% of all cases of
bronchial asthma seen in India that affects every sixth person; all over the world it is one
of the most common chronic diseases. Epidemiologic studies have consistently shown
that asthma and rhinitis often coexist in the same patient. It is, therefore, important to
know the best evidence based management of allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma
among patients with and without concomitant asthma. This Conference would provide
an interdisciplinary platform for sharing experiences, knowing new methods of
diagnosis and also search for the better ways of medical care.
Most of the disciplines in clinical medicine are confronted with the problem of
diseases caused by allergy, asthma and environmental pollutions. Therefore, it is felt as
call of time to bring specialists from the different fields of medicine and have
brainstorming discourses in search of holistic medicine to serve the human masses in a
much better way through this National Conference under the aegis of Indian College of
Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunology, ICAAAI.
We shall greatly appreciate your participation and active involvement in the
programmes and are confident that you will spare some time out of your busy schedule
for this programme. We shall also appreciate receiving your suggestions.
With kind regards,
Sincerely yours,
An Appeal
