    Directors DeskBrand - thank you

    Dear Members, family and friends

I hope this edition of Fresh Air finds you all fit and healthy.

If you have lost family or friends or were affected in anywaydue to the recent and on-going bush fires, our thoughts andcondolences are with you.

Thank you for the emails I received with feedback that youhad gone off to your Doctor and had a physical andpreparing a health and fitness plan, well done for doing so.

In 2006 Step into Life underwent a complete brand change, and I would like to thank all of you for supporting the newStep into Life brand. Wow, the Step into Life community, brand, and name is growing! Id like to share with you a fewbrand stories. Recently I was on a flight and the chap nextto me was reading the Franchise Magazine and the twopage editorial on Step into Life! I felt like saying Hey,how do you do but I decided not to!

On Sunday, last week I went (under duress) to a marketand there I spotted two Step into Life members who wereusing their Step into Life environmentally friendly shoppingbag, I stopped, said hello and had a chat. A big hello toSandy and Mel!. While running along the beach path inSandringham, VIC I saw a couple walking their dog, he waswearing his membership T-shirt and she had on her 1500training club shirt, and as I ran by I said, Go, Step intoLife! they smiled. And just the other day, I saw a carparked at the train station with a Step into Life fit ball in theback, no doubt ready for a pm session! It is so good to see our Step into Life members out there!

Step into Life is very proud of our members and of the factthat average lifespan of a Step into Life member is fourtimes that of any other fitness institution in Australia. Wevalue the sense of community and friendship that you alllove about Step into Life. Exercise adherence is far easierwith friends and a sense of community to help keep youmotivated.

Health & Fitness ArticleGoal setting for great goals

Goal setting is very important because without aims and aspirations we are like arudderless boat becalmed on a wide open ocean. To get great results you need tomake strong goals and plan a clear path to success ...

Goal setting is the process you use to set your direction in life. By setting goals on a routine basis you decide what youwant to achieve, and then move step-by-step towards the achievement of these goals. By knowing precisely what youwant to achieve, you know what you have to concentrate on to do it. You also know what is merely a distraction.

Goal setting is a technique used by top-level athletes, successful business-people and achievers in all fields.Numerous studies have shown that goal setting improves performance and success in all areas of your life. The goalsyou set give you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge and helps you toorganize your resources.

By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You cansee forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting goals, you will also raiseyour self-confidence, as you recognize your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set. Theprocess of achieving goals and seeing this achievement gives you confidence that you will be able to achieve higherand more difficult goals

Goals are set on a number of different levels: first you decide what you want to do with your life and what large-scalegoals you want to achieve. Second, you break these down into the smaller and smaller targets that you must hit so thatyou reach your lifetime goals. Finally, once you have your plan, you start working towards achieving it.

The following broad guidelines will help you to set effective goals:

Continued on next page Some teachers display their powerflex ability & their

manners in the classroom like Mr. Van Rooyen (Brent)He ets his name on the whiteboard for that one!

State each goal as a positive statement: Express your goalspositively - 'Execute this technique well' is a much better goalthan 'Don't make this stupid mistake'

Be precise: Set a precise goal, putting in dates, times andamounts so that you can measure achievement. If you do this, you will know exactly when you have achieved the goal, and cantake complete satisfaction from having achieved it.

Set priorities : When you have several goals, give each apriority. This helps you to avoid feeling overwhelmed by toomany goals, and helps to direct your attention to the mostimportant ones.

    Goal setting for great goals

continued. Write goals down : this crystallizesthem and gives them more force.Read them daily to keep your goalsfresh in your mind. Set performance goals, notoutcome goals : You should takecare to set goals over which youhave as much control as possible. There is nothing more dispiriting thanfailing to achieve a personal goal forreasons beyond your control. Thesecould be bad business

environments, poor judging, badweather, injury, or just plain bad luck.If you base your goals on personalperformance, then you can keepcontrol over the achievement of yourgoals and draw satisfaction fromthem. Set realistic goals : It is importantto set goals that you can achieve. Allsorts of people (parents, friends, media, and society) can setunrealistic expectations and goals foryou, so the goals you set should be

tailored to your aims and yourdesires, not external standards ofperformance or success. Try andignore what other people want -finding out what is important to YOUcan be a very empowering process. Do not set goals too low : Just asit is important not to set goalsunrealistically high, do not set themtoo low. People tend to do this wherethey are afraid of failure or wherethey are lazy! You should set goalsso that they are slightly out of your

immediate grasp, but not so far thatthere is no hope of achieving them.No one will put serious effort intoachieving a goal that they believe isunrealistic.
