The liquid to be treated is first subjected to a cen- trifuge, or similar apparatus, which performs the primary purification of the liquid. The treated li- quid is then mixed with stabilizing means that adsorb the polyphenols and proteins and filter means that retain the fine turbidities contained within the liquid. The liquid mixture is then transferred to an alluvial filter apparatus in laminar flow wherein the filter means and stabilization means along with the adsorbed polyphenols and proteins form a filter cake. The purified liquid is then transported to subsequent treatment while the filter cake is subsequently treated with a solution which dissolves the poly- phenols and protein thereby regenerating the stabilization means and the filter means. 4911935 METHOD OF PROCESSING A CHEESE-BASED FOOD PRODUCT AND THE CHEESE-BASED FOOD PRODUCT THUS OBTAINED Catherine M Fillaud, Bernard J Y Fromage, Neufchateau, France assigned to Bongrain S A A mass of cheese which is not mature or only slightly mature, and excluding processed cheese, is provided with a semi-permeable outer envel- ope wherein the envelope is a food gel selected to regulate the exchange of elements such as en- zymes, ions, gas, salts and amino acids between the interior and exterior of the mass of cheese for the purpose of obtaining controlled maturing of the cheese product and prolonging its life. 4916068 BIOCONVERSION PRODUCTION OF ASCORBIC ACID WITH L-GALACTONO-1,40XIDASE John F Roland, Theodore Cayle, Robert C Din- woodie, David W Mehnert assigned to Kraft Inc Processes for the bioconversion production of L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), and to micro- organisms (e.g., Candida Norvegensis MF-56, ATCC 20686 and Candida Norvegensis MF-78, ATCC 20732) and bioconversion media which are specifically adapted for such bioconversion.
