Reading: Unit 3: Becoming Experts: Reading NonfictionFill in your reading log---25- 30 minutes of reading

STOP & JOT while you read tonight

While reading a nonfiction book of your choice, I want you to put what you see and think together and then ask yourself, ‘What is this book teaching me?’. Remember noticing is making sure to take a look at the whole pages, analyzing all the text features, information, diagrams/pictures the author has given you; then putting those ideas and information together in your mind to answer the question: “What is this book teaching me?”

Writing: Unit 3: The How-To Guide to Nonfiction Writing – In your attached booklet, begin writing an informational book on a topic that you are an expert on. This means you know a lot about this topic. Try to include the following text features in your writing:

Introduction (name your topic) (1 page)Chapter Headings on each page (at least 3-4 chapters or more)Illustrations & Diagrams (pictures that teaches the reader with labels and captions) Keywords (ex: cubs, territory, prey, predator) Text Features other authors use (bold words, fact boxes, diagrams, maps etc.)Conclusion
