and answer any questions.

Everyday Mantra I AM CREATIVE

woo hoo ... let's get started!!!

5-day Creativity Adventure

Challenge #5DCAC

DAY 1

Developing an Artist Eye Today's challenge is to see without the mind labelling

or describing what you see.

See like the lens of a camera without any other in put

other than observing what's before you.

Note what attracts your attention. See objects as:

Shapes / Colours

Texture

Light / Shadow

As you observe without description, become more

aware of sounds, feelings, breathing.

Today... I want you to find an object that attracts your

attention either outside or in your home

and we'll use it for todays exercise.

Drawing Exercise

DAY 1Find an object that attracts your attention and you are

going to draw it. Drawing the shape you see before

you without your mind labelling or mentally describing

what it is. This can be a simple object like a leaf, a

coffee cup, flower, hat, chair, shoe. Anything will do.

2 part exercise:

1) With whatever instrument you have to draw with,

start to draw the outline of the chosen object. Don't

look at the paper you are drawing on. Keep your eyes

focused on the object as you slowly draw the contour.

Move your eyes incredibly SLOWLY taking in every

detail of the outline and draw the outline of what you

are looking at really slowly. Watch how you want to

rush and move your eyes faster. But stay with slowly

following the contour of the object as you draw without

looking at the paper.

Most importantly

Don't worry about the final result or outcome.

2) Next hide the object and draw it from memory

DAY 2

Shapes in Nature

I AM CREATIVE..

Today you are going to venture out in nature

and focus on documenting interesting shapes

(without labeling!) with your camera. Seeing with

the artist eye and documenting what you see.

Creative Exercise

DAY 2 I AM CREATIVE

1 - Draw one or more of the images you photographed.

Use shapes colours textures lights, darks in your

creation. Place various shapes on top of each other to

make patterns and abstract shapes.

Your art doesn't have to represent exactly what you

see. You are expressing your unique perception

beyond your mind's description. Use shapes that catch

your eye from your gathered images. Your result may

be quite abstract

That's the magic.

ENJOY What comes through - don't judge it

2 - You may choose instead to make an interesting

collage with your photos. You can also set up a board

in Pinterest with your photos of shapes found in nature.

You may begin to recognise a pattern in what things

you are drawn to (pun intended)

DAY 3

Black-out Poetry ArtI AM CREATIVE

Fun fun fun... Today we will create an artwork with

words and add shapes and colours... whatever you

want really.

Find a magazine or an old book (op shops) and tear a

page out of it, or make a photocopy.

You'll need thick paper, or cardboard

1. With the page of text, black out most of the words

and leaving other words in.

Allow the words that remain to come from instinct and

not from your mind trying to work it out logically. Read

the words that remain. This is your poetry.

2. Make art with your black-out poetry. You can paste

your text of poetry onto your cardboard and add other

elements. You can use cut-out images and paste them

on, add drawing. scribbling, and paint to it.

example:

as the art board

DAY 4

Wabi Sabi

Letting go of Perfectionism

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese term that embraces the

beauty of imperfection. Objects that are not perfect in

shape, are aged, or worn have their own unique

beauty and are termed wabi sabi. Old fences, rusted

tin roofing, non-symetrical pottery are seen as having

their own intricate beauty.

On your travels today try to spot objects that embody

wabi-sabi and see the beauty in the imperfection. See

beauty in the worn out, ageing textures and colours.

Creative Exercise

Day 4 Make a simple piece of art with found objects. You can

use shells, leaves, twisted branches, metal, paper. Try

to collect wabi sabi objects

and see the beauty when you put them together in a

creative way.

You can make your piece in-situ or take objects home

and create it there.

You can make something at the beach with imperfect

shells, wood, whatever you find.

(Great to do with children)

Enjoy creating some wabi sabi expressions. Use

imperfectly perfect objects to create a mandala.

DAY 5

creativity wellnessCommit to your Creativity Wellness

There are numerous ways to express our creative

self. Song, cooking, gardening, writing, knitting,

felting, sewing, pottery, etc.

Whatever we make, we create.

"Unused creativity is not benign"

Brene Brown

We tend to think creativity requires too much time

and we'll get to it later, but it really doesn't have to.

You can begin small. 5-10 minutes a day.

The main thing is to START and keep going.

Start with what delights you:

• Daily Art journal with writing and collage.

• 5-10 minute sketches in a sketchbook

• Photo a day using your artist eye

• Found objects art

Aim smaller and go for consistency.

See what happens over time.
