YOUR GOAL
Think about your goal here. You want to turn your visitors into buyers.
We need to take them from A (not customers) to B (happy customers)!
The best way I know to do this is to take a good hard look at your Etsy shop as if you were a potential customer who is seeing the store for the FIRST time.
Head on over to your Etsy shop and prepare to be ruthless!
REMEMBERNot everyone that comes to your store is going to buy right away, in fact not everyone that comes to your shop is going to buy at all.
But there are things we can do to help that percentage of people who are inlined to make a purchase be more likely to hit the buy now button.
ROADBLOCK: FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Think about the thought process that happens when you go somewhere for the first time. Say you go to a new clothing boutique that’s just opened in your city. What is running through your mind as you step inside the door? Most likely you are giving the place a quick scan trying to get a feel for where you are and if you are comfortable being here. You’re unconsciously deciding if you want to stay or go.
Think about your Etsy shop. What is the first impression like? How does it feel? What type of environment have you created? Is it warm and inviting or cold and empty?
Shop Banner - I like my banners to tell a potential client exactly what my store is and what I sell. Something like this…
1. Who Are You??
Profile Picture - please have one…
About Page - again, please have one! Use all 5 photo spots to take people behind the scenes and then tell your story.
You can even use video now!

1. Who Are You continued…
2. Does Anyone Live Here?Have at least ONE FULL page of listings
A full shop is more inviting and creates more trust then a shop with just 2 or 3 listings
ROADBLOCK: THE OFFER
The next step an interested potential customer will make in your store is to click on to a listing.
So go ahead and click on one of the listings in your store and take an IMPARTIAL look!
3. Show Me!
Imagine a listing where you were only allowed to include photos and no text. Could your potential customers still tell what the item is without any descriptions? Are the pictures that good???
4. Tell Me More!Read your item description. Often they can be missing an ESSENTIAL piece of information that someone NEEDS to know in order to make a buying decision.
Ask yourself, does it include need to know information such as;
Sizes
Colors
Materials
Time to create
Shipping information
5. How much!Price can be a major roadblock when it comes to making a sale. Think about it. How many times have you seen something that you LOVE in a store and not purchased because it was too expensive? I do it ALL the time.
Now, you’ve probably put plenty of thought into your pricing and they are probably fine BUT it really doesn’t hurt to make sure.
Double check that you are happy with your pricing in comparison to similar Etsy Shops
Perhaps it is your POSTAGE costs that are causing people to not buy your products. Check the postage prices of your competition. Are you able to compete?
LET’S RECAP5 Ways To Get Sales On Etsy CREATE TRUST with banners, profile pics, owners bio’s and an About Page
Have at least a FULL PAGE OF LISTINGS
Have EXCELLENT PHOTO’S which are clear, detailed and show all angles of the product
Make sure your DESCRIPTIONS COVER EVERYTHING that a potential buyer needs to know in order to make a purchase
Be brutally honest - is the COST of both the PRODUCT and SHIPPING REASONABLE and attractive?
I hope that helps you get clearer on what it takes to turn a viewer into a paying customer! You need to take them from A to B as easily as possible.
These are very basic principles, yes, but a solid foundation makes for a successful business. If you already have ALL of these things right then it’s time to take a deeper look at what could be causing your lack of sales.
