Gabriel Musso Tortajada Gimenez Objetivo: Para conmemorar el 50º aniversario del primer ascenso a Primera del Levante en 1963 en Vallejo, deseamos aumentar el conocimiento y la memoria colectiva dentro del levantinismo respeto al hito histórico que supuso aquel ascenso.

I. El aniversario Este próximo 2 de junio de 2013 se cumplen 50 años desde el primer ascenso del Levante a la Primera División Española. Fue quizás el hito histórico más importante desde que el Levante F.C. y el Gimnástico se fusionaron en el actual Levante U.D. El hito se logró en el viejo campo del Levante, Vallejo, y con una plantilla de ensueño y con varios jugadores que todavía son considerados entre los mejores de la historia en jugar en el Levante.

Actos de conmemoración Marcha granota - La Peña Born In The USA invita a las peñas levantinistas a realizar una marcha granota desde la vieja ubicación de Vallejo al Ciutat de València el día del último partido de liga ante el Betis en la jornada 38. La fecha podría caer en el mismo día del aniversario (2 de junio) o bien el día anterior (1 de junio) según la hora decidida por la LFP. Hilo en Granotas.net

Estas palabras forman parte de la lletre de una gran canço del gran cantautor levantinista Xavier Copado "Lliure". Lliure refería a Vallejo en su totalidad, su historia larga y honrada y no sólo al gran ascenso, el primer ascenso a Primera que se logró allí en Vallejo. Sin embargo, sin la memoria del logro más emblemático e importante de aquella época, puede que la memoria del estadio también se nos escapa y toda una época de levantinismo. Precisamente, el próximo 2 de junio de 2013 se cumplen 50 años de la mayor gesta e hito histórico para una generación de levantinistas y también entre los más importantes en los primeros 100 años de historia. El ascenso que se produjo aquel 2 de junio significaba muchísimo para nuestra gente.Era todo una culminación de esfuerzos sobresalientes, todo lo que habían intentado y trabajado nuestros antepasados levantinistas desde antes y después de la Guerra Civil. Habían trabajado y tirado décadas y dinero en busca de conseguir el eterno sueño de un Levante de Primera. Con el sueño hecho realidad, se desataron los sentimientos, la locura, las emociones y no sorprende que hay recuerdos de muchos desmayos en Vallejo aquel 2 de junio. Esta fecha, el 2 de junio, debería de ser una fecha señalada y celebrado por todo el levantinismo, sobre todo en este año del aniversario. Vallejo el estadio y este hito del ascenso del 63, nunca los podemos olvidar ni despreciar. Con este espíritu hemos querido, desde la peña BORN IN THE USA y la revista

MADE IN ORRIOLS, queremos homenajear a este aniversario. Proponemos las

siguientes iniciativas, humildemente, al levantinismo. Testigos de Vallejo - Sección especial en nuestra revista Para recuperar en la memoria colectiva del levantinismo a este ascenso histórico y sin antecedentes en nuestra historia, pedimos la colaboración de las personas que presenciaron aquel encuentro del 2 de junio de 1963 en Vallejo. Esperamos que con su(s) recuerdos escritos, podemos recuperar la memoria de aquel día.

Queremos pedir la colaboración de los levantinistas que presenciaron aquel momento tan precioso y tan deseado durante tantos años por parte de la afición. Con su colaboración escrita, esperemos recuperar la memoria de aquel ascenso y guardarlo en nuestra memoria colectiva del Levante U.D.Si usted presenció aquel momento histórico y desea escribir su historia y relato, le pedimos que se ponga en contacto con nosotros a través de nuestra página de Facebook o aquí mismo en Made In Orriols. Marcha granota - domingo 2 de junio de 2013

Proponemos una marcha granota, como se ha hecho en el pasado con motivo de los derbis que se han disputado en Mestalla. Esta marcha granota empezaría en la ubicación histórica del estadio de Vallejo y terminaría en el estadio actual, el Ciutat de València. Cuando se cumplen los 50 años de Vallejo, es posible que jugamos el mismo día, y si no al menos en el mismo fin de semana, la jornada 38º de la Liga cuando jugamos en el Ciutat de València contra el Betis.

Vamos a proponer esta iniciativa a la Delegación de Peñas y pedir que hagamos un esfuerzo para invitar a todos los protagonistas sobrevivientes de aquel ascenso. Asistencia de los jugadores de aquella plantilla Sería nuestra máxima aspiración poner a todos los jugadores que hicieron posible esta gesta en el césped antes de aquel partido y darles el reconocimiento y cariño que tanto merecen de nosotros. Duele decirlo pero puede que la mayoría de ellos y los otros testigos del ascenso de Vallejo no estén entre nosotros para su 75º aniversario. Por eso, hay que hacer de este 50º aniversario algo muy importante.

50 ANYS DE VALLEJO 1963 a 2013 Con nuestros humildes medios y recursos, vamos a intentar darle el reconocimiento a un aniversario importantísimo para el levantinismo, y que, en nuestra opinión, no está recibiendo el reconocimiento que merece.

25.000 Pesetas

25000 pesetas pagaban por mi entrada el 2 de junio de 1963. A mis trece años tenía la ocasión de vivir una cita histórica, el primer ascenso del

Llevant a primera división. Atrás quedaba una temporada repleta de victorias,

compitiendo codo a codo con el Real Murcia, ayudado del inolvidable Ferrete, aquel

árbitro que en una matinal de Vallejo al final de la primera vuelta de la competición, nos

castigó de tal manera que todavía está presente en la mente de los más viejos del lugar.

El segundo duelo en Murcia fue dramático y con el empate a un gol en el marcador, el

poste evitó el gol de Camarasa en el último momento y las ilusiones del ascenso rodaron

por los suelos. Ahora las posibilidades eran muy escasas.

El Deportivo de la Coruña sería nuestro temido rival. Un equipo lleno de figuras, los

Veloso, Betancourt, Montalvo….una misión casi imposible para nuestro modesto equipo.

Pocos pensaban que saldríamos airosos de la difícil empresa. Quiso el destino

proporcionarnos un enfrentamiento previo, en la competición de copa, contra el mismo

equipo. Ambos conjuntos decidieron reservar a los mejores jugadores para los partidos

de promoción y en ambos partidos coperos, con jugadores suplentes, no se pasó del

empate, lo que obligó a un partido de desempate en el Santiago Bernabeu. Ahí sí que

decidieron presentar a los equipos titulares. Y sorpresivamente, el Llevant fue superior

llevándose la eliminatoria.

Como premio, tocó en suerte el enfrentamiento contra el todopoderoso Real Madrid de

los Distefano, Puskas y Gento, que nos obligó a disputar en Mestalla, para dar cobijo a

todos los aficionados deseosos de ver de cerca a los ídolos madridistas. Una gozada ver

competir con todo honor a nuestros Victoriero, Camarasa , Domínguez, Calpe contra los

dioses merengues. Lógicamente caímos honrosamente y se iniciaron los preparativos

para el definitivo partido con el Coruña del entrenador Lelé, que había sido el nuestro

durante media temporada y acudió a Coruña a salvar al equipo de su tierra, en la segunda

vuelta.

25000 pesetas pagaban por mi entrada, mucho dinero entonces, pero mi entrada no se

vendía. Yo tenía que ver mi primer ascenso con el Llevant. Se acondicionaron gradas

metálicas para ampliar la capacidad del campo de Vallejo pero aun así, era insuficiente

para albergar la cantidad de aficionados que no querían perderse el choque. En el partido

de ida, la victoria levantinista 1-2 en Riazor, había hecho renacer las esperanzas de

triunfo. Y llegó el gran día enturbiado por el fallecimiento del pontífice Juan XXIII y

que obligaba a guardar varios días de luto nacional.

25000 pesetas dejé de ganar por vivir ese partido en directo, en una tarde dominical del

mes de junio, donde mis Valls, Currucale, Dominguez, Wanderley….no me fallaron y

por esas 25000 pesetas hoy puedo rememorar aquella maravillosa tarde, aquella tarde

histórica en que nuestro Llevant lograba por primera vez en su historia una gesta , que se

repetiría en años más lejanos y que yo volvería a disfrutar en Xerez, Lleida y al

Ciutat, aunque en estas ocasiones, no me

ofrecieron las 25000 pesetas.

Fueron momentos grandiosos de nuestro

Llevant. Espero no tener que vivir más ascensos

y que las próximas celebraciones sean europeas

, aunque para ello tuviera que pagar esas

dichosas 25000 pesetas.

El sorteo de la Europa League Publicado por Dean Burrier Sanchis

El sorteo de dieciseisavos de la Europa League se vivió con mucho ilusión y

nervios dentro del levantinismo. Al final la suerte departió que fuera

el Olympiacos F.C. nuestro próximo rival en la competición continental...

Esta mañana nos vimos formando parte de la élite, nuestro escudo en pantalla

entre los escudos de algunos de los mejores clubes de fútbol de todo el mundo:

Liverpool, Inter Milán, Chelsea, etc. Al final vamos a Grecia para visitar al

Olympiakos y esperamos pasar la eliminatoria y enfrentarnos en octavos ante o

el Atlético de Madrid o el Rubin Kazan, ex-equipo de Obafemi Martins.

En la transmisión hablaron bien del Levante. El director de la transmisión de la

UEFA tuvo que parar la primera vez que anunció al Levante. Primero dijo

"Levante U.D." para unos segundos después añadir "Unión Deportiva" con algo

de redundancia. Mencionaron que es la primera vez que formamos parte de esta

competición e hicieron un guiño claro hacia nuestro rival de dieciseisavos el

Olympiakos al decir que los griegos estarían encantados de jugar contra el

Levante y estar en su "clima de sol" porque aparentemente el frío les afectó en

su enfrentamiento el año pasado en esta misma competición en una salida a

Rusia. Esperemos que el Levante sepa mostrar que no somos un rival inferior.

Las imágenes del equipo granota previas a la realización del sorteo no pudieron

ser más ideales: vimos una repetición del gol de Juanfran ante el Helsingborgs

en el Ciutat, unas imágenes de la grada festejando el gol y el equipo corriendo

hacia el veterano segundo capitán para formar una piña alrededor de él.

Player Focus:

Roger Martí

We may very well be upon the

imminent rising of Roger Martí.

The young striker has shown

many times before that he is

capable of rising up to the stage

of the First Team and showing

his worth.

Both last year and this year,

Roger has been called up in

decisive games and left his

mark.

With his contract renewal

already in the books, albeit after

a long and twisting negotiation,

and Obafemi Martins heading for the exit doors, Roger could be looking at getting

a real opportunity to make the definitive step to the First Team at Levante.

He has been training with the First Team most of this season already, but Martins’

exit would leave Roger and new arrival Acquafresca as the only natural strikers on

Levante’s roster. This will likely mean that Roger will become a fixture in

Levante’s 18 man gameday roster and a lock for minutes in home and away games,

as coach Juan Ignacio Martínez typically makes very offensive substitutions.

Roger has been having an excellent season so far. Netting 16 goals with the

Levante B side Third Division that is amazingly knocking on the door of

promotion to the Second Division, something only Real Madrid-Castilla and FC

Barcelona B can boast about. He recently scored an amazing over the head goal in

a game in which he scored a hatrick. With the First Team, Roger also managed to

score an all important goal against Celta de Vigo, giving Levante a last-minute

point from the away tie.

From Made In Orriols, we wish the best of luck to Roger as he attempts to enter

the hearts of Levante fans and become a fixture with the First Team. Your future

looks bright!

The Vallejo Promotion of 1963 by Dean Burrier Sanchis

Since Levante U.D. was transformed as the fusion of two clubs, Levante FC and

Gimnástico, the constant and sole obsession of Levante fans and club directors was

to promote to the newly formed Spanish League First Division. Left out when the

teams who would form the First Division were chosen after the Spanish Civil War,

it seemed Levante would earn its way in early on. However, as Levante fans, all

too accustomed to suffering and disappointments, know too well, Levante U.D.

slowly slipped away and distanced itself over the next decade and a half from

promoting and instead lived a few relegations to the lower divisions.

It was not until June 2nd, 1963, after a few close calls (Levante had even played a

few ties of direct promotion games without luck in earlier years), when Levante

could finally celebrate the long desired promotion.

The monumental accomplishment occurred in the legendary former stadium

Vallejo. With a squad full of Levante legends wearing the

club blaugrana, Dominguez, Wanderlei, Valls, Currucale, Camarasa and

company.

That day Levante defeated Deportivo La Coruña and marched its way into the

Spanish Primera. It was a time of immense happiness for the loyal and stoic

Levante fan base. The months and indeed years ahead would be some of the

happiest and most enjoyable for a generation.

Levante managed to avoid relegation in the 1963-64 campaign with some gutsy

football, an offensive and risky style of play that ended up condemning the team a

year later in the 1964-65 campaign.

It would not be until the 2003-04 campaign, 40 years after the first season in

Primera, that Levante would again return as a member of the elite. Since then,

Levante has become somewhat a fixture of the Spanish First Division. However,

the 40 years in between the Vallejo Promotion and the Manolo Preciado led

promotion of 2004 were some of the most trying times for Levante fans.

It is for that stoic nature of the Levante fans, and for a generation of Levante fans

for whom this golden moment was the only time they would see their beloved

Levante among the elite clubs in Spain, that we celebrate the 50 years (50 anys)

that have passed since the Vallejo promotion. May Levante fans long remember

where we have come from and never forget our humble roots.

An Open Letter to Drew Carey Publicado por Dean Burrier Sanchis

Dear Drew,

As a fellow Cleveland-area sports fan and someone who calls Kent, Ohio home, I

felt the need to address with you, an icon for us Ohioans, some serious concerns

I have with the ethics, lack of respect, the disgustingly sly puppeteering and just

plain bullying that the Seattle Sounders organization has launched against

Levante UD over the course of the last few days.

Like you, I love the Browns, Indians, Cavaliers and especially our beloved

Kent State Golden Flashes, however my favorite sports team in the world is a

little soccer club from my grandfather's old neighborhood in Valencia, Levante

UD. We are a humble, but historic club. We have been around for over 102

years. We are a family club that everyone would agree is vastly overachieving

these last few years. By sheer economics alone we should be in Second

Division, yet we qualified for Europa League on a shoestring budget, one of the

lowest in all of La Liga. We make a living off taking chances on washed up

players who no one else wants. Obafemi Martins is just one example. Quite

frankly, I believe the way the Seattle Sounders has handled its "interest" in

Martins is absolutelylamentable. Instead of going to Levante and starting

negotiations, the Seattle Sounders announced its interest in Martins via

Twitter. Is this really the way a professional sports organization conducts

its business matters?

It is my personal perspective from afar that the Sounders management has been

inciting Martins to rattle cages in the media by saying that he is "unhappy" at

Levante and fabricating a lie that Levante did not follow through with an unnamed

and nonexistent promise. Quite frankly, the veil is so thin its impossible for

anyone with a pulse and an understanding of the situation to buy into it,

especially when considering Martins has been one of the happiest and most

grateful members of our team until just a few days ago. Indeed, the very day

before Seattle showed up to whisper in his ear about 5 million USD, Obafemi

tweeted that he hoped to "win a title with Levante".

Seducing Martins with Benjamin-Franklin millions and then inciting him to rebel

against his actual club to save some money on his transfer is absolutely

deplorable. Worse yet has been the determination of Sounders F.C. to bully

Levante by throwing our humble club through the ringer of a surmounting

media campaign, pressure cooker in the week of our city derby, the most

important game of the year for us humble Levante fans. Instead of dreaming

about what could be a historic away win for us, we have had to turn our eyes

away from television screens and newspapers and feel sorrowful as we watch

the demise of someone who for many was a Levante hero, all due to the

puppeteering of a distant organization thousands of miles away (Remember

what you must have felt when LeBron James left Cleveland, only imagine it

occurring during the season, after the trade deadline and right on the verge

of the Playoffs).

If the Sounders organization really wants Obafemi Martins, pay his exit fee. It is

really as simple as that. Levante is owed some decency and does not deserve

this completely disrespectful treatment. The Sounders have been around since

2007, Levante since before 1909. It is disrespectful not only to Levante but to

the beautiful game and to the general code of ethics and gentlemanly

behavior that accompany the sport in Europe, to attempt to dismantle a

humble team on the verge of our big game just to save yourselves a few hundred

thousand dollars and have Oba on your teammonths before the MLS transfer

window even closes.

Yes, we signed Obafemi Martins for free last year and Sounders could have

signed him back then if they really had wanted to. Instead, Obafemi turned down

any other offers that he may have had to come reignite his career at Levante and

play Europa League football. Thanks to the opportunity we gave him, it is obvious

from the Sounders interest, that he has accomplished that.

As a matter of respect and appreciation to Levante, re-discovering this football

talent and giving him a chance when no other European club was interested, is

worthy of recognition. It is also worthy of just compensation for winning its long-

shot bet on Martin's success and for potentially losing our leading goal scorer

and one of our star-players in the middle of a historic season and without any

possibility of signing another striker to replace him. In our first-ever appearance

in European competition, we are just supposed to willingly watch our team

get dismantled and be complicit in it, in fact offering it up at bargain

price? Though I know too well what the frustration and self-loathing of

theCleveland sports narrative tastes like, I do not think that is the treatment my

humble Levante deserves.

So, please, un poco de respeto, a little respect for little, historic Levante. I would

think a small-market franchise like the Seattle Sounders would not need to be

reminded of this. ¡Macho Levante!
