PATROL

Patrol officers work 12 hour shifts rotating from days to nights every 8 weeks. We average 4-5 officers per shift. Officers have their own patrol vehicle and are equipped with body cameras and other state of the art technology. If you thrive being busy you’ll enjoy our patrol teams.

INVESTIGATIONS

Detectives carry a case load that requires good organization and initiative. They serve in an emergency on-call rotation where they receive additional pay as the designated on-call detective.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE TEAM

Building ties and working closely with members of our community is a priority for our department. The community resource team (CRT) is involved with community outreach events, public education, and Neighborhood Watch. They also serve as school resource officers (SRO), public information officers, and police explorer advisors.

ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT Tooele City was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America’s top ten ‘Friendliest Cities’ and by AARP’s Livability Index for the degree to which we embrace diversity and offer opportunities to residents of all ages and backgrounds.

Located just 30 miles west of Salt Lake City, we are nestled at the base of the beautiful Oquirrh

Mountain range. Our community provides quick access to the metropolitan area and a rural, hometown feel.

Our 40 police officers service a population of 33,000 and a geographic area of 24 square miles.

Described as a medium-size organization, officers responded to approximately 15,000 calls last year representing diversity in the requests for police services.

Our organization sets a standard of unwavering integrity and ethical conduct. We value the camaraderie and trust that exists among fellow officers, the weight placed on family and work balance, and a culture that emphasizes officer safety at the forefront of our actions. Police officers are well trained, well equipped, and highly motivated to relentlessly pursue crime while honoring the Constitutional rights of our citizens.

Law Enforcement Exploring, or “Explorers,” is a hands-on program open to young men and women who are 14 through 20 years old, interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system.

To be an officer in Utah, you must be at least 21. We have an exceptional program that gives our youth exposure to the profession and other life training.

The program offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition, and other activities. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism.

To apply for the Explorer Program go directly to the police department to talk to an advisor or pick up a brochure.
