The Historical Perspective
of Miss Prairie View
• 1932 - 1969: Miss Prairie View was a selected solely by student vote.
• From 1970 until the late 80s, Miss Prairie View A&M was a competitor in the Miss Texas Pageant leading to the Miss America Pageant.
• The title “Miss Prairie View A&M University” was established in 1973 when the sixty-third legislature changed the name of the college to “Prairie View A&M University”
Future Big Events:
• In 2020, Miss PVAMU celebrates 51 years of the Miss Prairie View Pageant.

Role of Miss PVAMU
Miss Prairie View A&M University (Miss PVAMU) is one of the most celebrated student leadership roles at
the University. This role includes public speaking as a student body spokesperson, student role model, and
new student recruiter. The student awarded this title is expected to represent the student body and the
University throughout the year in a variety of different activities/capacities.
Miss Prairie View A&M University is the University’s Queen and is considered an official representative. She
is expected to represent Prairie View A&M University with integrity, leadership, poise, and scholarship.
• Miss PVAMU must complete six (6) programs related to her platform throughout the academic year.
• She must work unselfishly and cooperatively with the Royal Court Advisors, University Administration,
Student Government Association, and the Royal Court.
Contestant Requirements
• Must be a validated, full-time Prairie View A&M University student
• Must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
• Must be rising senior with a minimum of 90 credit hours and have earned at least 30 credit hours at
PVAMU
• Must be in compliance with the University Code of Conduct
• Must not be married or have children *
• Must be willing and comply with and uphold all items, roles, and responsibilities outlined in the
PVAMU Royal Court Protocol Handbook
*Please note: Prairie View A&M University contestant eligibility requirements apply to ensure that the reigning "Miss" at Prairie View A&M University will satisfy the necessary
pageant eligibility requirements if she were to participate in an external pageant. Please note that local, regional and national pageant competitions require candidates for "Miss"
titles to be a natural born female, single, unmarried, have never been married, and without child.
Souvenir Booklet Advertisements
Each contestant is required to sell a minimum of 16 ads including one (1) full page advertisement.
Ads are sold in the following sizes:
Quarter page (4X5): $50
Half page (8X5): $75
Full page: (8X10): $125
Inside Front or Back Cover: $250
All ads and funds are due on: Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Pageant Attire Private Interview:
Business suit, yet reflective of your personality. Colors are open, yet should complement you.
Swimwear:
Solid one-piece swimsuit. Colors are open, yet should complement you.
Talent:
Should be appropriate for the talent and connects to the performance.
Formal Wear:
Long formal dress. Colors are open, yet should complement you.
Campaigning
• All approved Miss PVAMU pageant contestants must attend the campaign meeting hosted by
the Student Government Association.
• All rules and regulations must be followed as infractions will be imposed.
• Candidates must not exceed a maximum of $500 on campaign materials.*
• Campaign materials should reflect the high standards and integrity of the title Miss Prairie
View A&M University.
• All campaign material(s) will need to approved by the Miss PVAMU Pageant
coordinators prior to posting.
• Any questions or concerns in regards to campaigning should be directed to the SGA Elections
Committee.
*SGA has the authority to increase or decrease this amount.

Contestants must attend all practices which we will cover each target area. Missing practice
may impact your over all performance and participation in the pageant. Additionally, you
should be constantly perfecting these areas outside of practice. Practice makes perfect!
