One Hundred Words of Praise
Assalamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters,
Oftentimes, Muslims forget that Islam is not a homo-
geneous body. And more so, that the Prophet was sent as a
mercy to all of creation. Not to the Arabs alone, not to man-
kind alone, and not to a past time. .
The sunnah was carried with the message of Islam by
the Prophet and the believers who like us continue to live the
legacy of obeying Allah in the merciful example of the Proph-
et (S). As Islam traveled far and wide, many people came to
praise the prophet, amongst them the Hongwu Emperor of
China.
The Hundred-word Eulogy or One Hundred Words of
Praise(百字讃 bǎizìzàn) is a 100 character praise of Islam and
the Prophet Muhammad (S) written by the Hongwu Emperor
of China from 1368-1398. It can be found in several mosques
in Nanjing China.
This eulogy was personally written by the emperor in
praise of the Prophet’s (S) virtues. He also ordered several
mosques be built in the capital cities of Xijing and Nanjing, in
southern Yunnan, Fujian, and Guangdong.
One Hundred Words Of Praise—
Translated by Brandon Newlon
The universe began with the heavenly tablet recording his name.
The religion-delivering great sage, born in the western realm.
Conferring and receiving heavenly scripture in thirty parts, uni-versally transforming all created beings.
Master of the trillion rulers, leader of the ten thousand sages.
Assisted by destiny, protector of the community. In each of the five prayers, he silently supplicates for their total well-being.
His intention is that Allah should remember the needy. Deliver them from tribulations to safety, Knower of the unseen.
Exalted above every soul and spirit, free from any blameworthy deeds.
A mercy to all of the worlds, whose path is preeminent for all time.
Renounce spiritual ignorance; return to The One – that is the religion called Islam.
Muhammad is the most noble sage.
