54th DEUCE: October 2019 President’s Message: Spring is here and the smell of fresh mown grass will soon be in the air to announce the start of a new grass court season. The council grounds staff have done a great job carrying out renovations to courts 4 and 5 to improve drainage and have carried out annual renovations to all the courts in readiness for another season. The sun just needs to shine to bring on the grass and hopefully the courts will be in great condition by the end of October. A very big thank you to outgoing committee members Sue, Richard and Ian Hamer who continue supporting the club with joint custody of sponsorship. Your new committee is James (President), Rhett (Treasurer), Vlado (Captain), Ian Singleton (Competition Captain), Yanti (Secretary), Olivia (Membership) and Mary (Social). As ever, there are some jobs to do to get the club tidied up after the winter break and I look forward to seeing you at the Busy Bee and on the courts. James Edwards, President Season 2019/20 has started: Membership fees (1 Oct 2019 to 30 Sep 2020) are now due; we appreciate your prompt payment.

OUTSIDE • Clean external paintwork • Weed around clubhouse and front area • Tidy round container • Tidy up behind clubhouse • Check and clean court signs • Check plastic chairs • Replace non-slip nosing strips to external steps • Clean BBQ • Clean drinking water fountain • Check lights • Clean out Lost Property box • Check and oil locks • Arrange new planters • Revitalise existing planter pots • Check condition of benches

Messages from your Captains: Adult Pennants (Ian Singleton, Captain) Pennants nominations are in and we have entered 8 teams for the summer with matches starting on Saturday 19th October. A bit down on previous years due to a mixture of some players taking a break and the high birth rate amongst some of the teams. We have the following teams:

If you have not been contacted but are still keen on playing please let Ian know and he will do his best to make sure that you get some games and the captains know that you are interested. Social (Vlado Raich, Captain) He is enjoying a lovely well-deserved holiday in Croatia and some great Mediterranean weather, then off to Madrid. We expect to have him back on court Saturday 5 October (with some tans). Juniors (Matt Bull Tennis Factory) Winter pennants Round-up

Of the 6 junior teams playing winter pennants, 4 made semi-finals and 3 made the grand finale. In the end our youngest players, the Orange Ball team of Julia Pedrini, Chase and Kiefer Yuen and Dylan and Cooper Wauchope won the final at home vs Royal King’s Park TC. Their smiles show it all.

Summer pennants We have 10 junior teams (up from 8 last summer) playing summer pennants this season. We have a lot of boys in the 10-12 year age group.

The menu was provided in very generous portions for all, which include intoxicating sangria (yes you can top-up 3 times), three types of tapas (by Paellas and Tapas), chicken and seafood paella (by Paellas and Tapas), and a delicious home-made dessert. A very special thank you to Vera Stanley who provided us with colourful flowers and beautiful dining table décor sets for all tables making them look elegant. Thanks to Mary the organizer and the helpers: Mel and Jordan (cocktail), Aidan (barman), Olivia (pastry chef), Rhett (music), and others who helped with setting up and clearing up. Dinner party is not about impressing people; it is about making them happy. The photos show it all, it was indeed a very pleasant evening!! Past Social Events, any suggestion for upcoming? Besides the regular social events (namely wind up dinner, president cocktail reception, Christmas champagne breakfast and monthly BBQ), since 2012 we have had numerous events listed below. Tennis Factory @OPTC 10 year anniversary: This summer marks 10 years Tennis Factory (TF) has been at the club! TF is planning a big celebration on Saturday 2nd November from 5-7pm. There will be entertainment for all including food, drinks, music and activities for the kids. More info will be forthcoming! Feel like brushing-up your tennis skills? Read Tennis Factory Coaching News below Introducing our new staff sportswear collection TF is excited to showcase their new staff uniform which includes a shirt and tracksuit/top. All TF staff will now be easily identifiable on-court or around the club.

Adult Coaching and Cardio Tennis program TF Tuesday night Adult Coaching program has been moved to a Thursday night over summer to enable the club to field some mixed doubles pennants at the club that night. Other Adult Coaching class on Monday night remains on the same day and Adult Drills will still run on a Tuesday night. TF adult coaching program costs $200 for 8 weeks and starts the week of Monday 14th October with Adult Drills costing $190 for 8 weeks. Also recently introduced is a Tuesday night 6.30-7.30pm Cardio Tennis session. The cost is $20 per session or purchase a Cardio Tennis card for $160 (9 sessions). These camps are perfect for kids aged 4 – 14 years who are learning to play or are still developing their tennis skills. NEW!! October School Holiday Advanced Junior Clinics These clinics are perfect for junior players who can already play. Pitched at green and yellow ball pennant level players the clinics focus on match play and tactical based drills. The clinic runs for 3 days from Tues 8th to Thurs 10th October from 1-3pm.
