Early Life Born on July 12, 1932 in Kerela.

Studied at the Victoria College in Palghat.

Graduated in engineering from the formerGovernment Engineering College, Kakinada.

Lecturer in Civil engineering at the KeralaPolytechnic in Kozhikode.

Moved toBombay Port Trust as an apprentice. Joined the Indian Railways in its Service of

Engineers.

b. Mr. Sreedharan got it restored in a record time of46 days.

c. Awarded the Railway Minister's Award for this

achievement

Retired from Indian Railways in 1990.

Challenges he faced at DMRC

After a series ofminor mishaps, a major one

struck DMRC on July 12,2009.

Metro bridge collapsed in Zamrudpur (South

Delhi) leaving 6 dead and 15 injured.

The mishap caused a loss of6 crores to DMRC,

thereby increasing the deadline ofPhase-II by

more than 3 months.Taking moral responsibility for the accident, DMRC

chiefMr. E. Sreedharan resigned but denied by

Ms. Sheila Dikshit (C.M. ofDelhi)

asking why they should not be blacklisted for2 years.

Design consultant, Arch Consultancy Services,

blacklisted for 5 years.

Structural consultant, Tandon Consultants,

debarred for 2 years.

After resignation, his Words

"My colleagues advised against the

resignation. Normally I listen to them but this

time it is different. I have been in-charge of

the project for 10 years. We have maintained

a high safety mechanism. The first jolt was

the Laxmi Nagar accident but this is a bigger

setback,"
