Abstract:It is of great significance for municipal pipeline engineering construction to implement 3 D horizontal directional
drilling (HDD) In virtue of a practical projectthis work carries out the onsite monitoring of a gas pipeline during 3 D HDD
construction Based on gyroscopic position-detection system and a fiber optic sensing techniquean integrated scheme for the pipe-
line construction monitoring is designed and conducted The 3 D spatial coordinates of the overall pipeline are measured The
mechanic responses of the tested section running through the whole drilling track are obtained It testifies that the longitudinal
strains and the sectional moments are sharply increased as the tested pipe traverses with a rotation simultaneously on the horizon-
tal and vertical planes The recorded data are informative for a further theoretical analysis and the monitoring strategy can provide
a reference for such similar projects
