From Reykjavik, we travel to the south coast, stopping en route at the amazing Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Upon reaching the Landeyjahöfn Harbour, we take a 30 minute ferry ride to the Westman Islands, where we will start by exploring Heimaey, the largest island in the Westman Islands archipelago.

Other adventures of the day include a visit to Stórhöfði Bird Cliff, a walk up to the crater of a volcano that erupted only three decades ago, visiting the Eldheimar Museum and exploring flora of the new lava field.

In the afternoon we take a boat tour from the historic Heimaey Harbor, which was almost lost during the volcanic eruption in 1973. The boat tour gives us a look at colourful ocean caves, the newly

formed volcanic island of Surtsey and other islands and their lava coastlines. We will see a variety of seabird and marine life such as puffin and whales.

The boat tour will also cruise into a Cliff Cave near the harbour, where we will listen to some instrumental music and enjoy the unique acoustics. Dinner will be at our hotel.

DAY 3 | Sept. 15, 2018 | Westman Islands - South Shore (B, L)

After breakfast, we check out and take the ferry back to the mainland and then travel further on along the south shore of Iceland.

The south shore is one of the most popular areas of Iceland due to uniquely Icelandic attractions that are easily accessible. We will see the stone arch Dyrhólaey with its sheer cliffs, the picturesque setting of Vík village, a row of glaciers towering over the scenery and the Reynisdrangar rock pillars decorating the black beach of Reynishverfi.

We then cross the lava field of Eldhraun, the largest mass of lava ever to flow on the face of the Earth, before we reach the small town Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a former site of a 12th century Catholic convent.

We head onwards to Skaftafell, part of Vatnajökull National Park, one of Iceland's most outstanding areas of natural beauty and continue to the stunning Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon to see floating icebergs and possibly some local wildlife.

Throughout the day we will enjoy magnificent views of the mighty Vatnajökull Glacier. At the end of the day we head to our accommodation on the south shore.

Overnight at Icelandair Hotel Klaustur or similar (1 night)

DAY 4 | Sept. 16, 2018 | South Shore - Gullfoss - Þingvellir - Reykjavík (B, L)

On our way back to Reykjavík we will explore the Golden Circle area.

We will make a lunch stop at the family run Friðheimar Greenhouse Cultivation Centre, where we learn about the magic behind growing delicious, pesticide-free tomatoes and cucumbers with the aid of the geothermal heat that Iceland has an abundance of.

In addition to the beautiful Greenhouse Centre, the family also runs a horse breeding farm, where you can visit and learn about the unique Icelandic horse.

We then travel to Gullfoss one of Iceland’s most impressive and powerful waterfalls. Nearby, we will also stop at the Geysir Hot Springs attraction where numerous hot springs, fumeroles and geysers can be found, including the famous 30-metre spouting Strokkur, a hot spring that spouts every few minutes.

Our next stop is Þingvellir (pronounced Thingvellir') National Park, a remarkable geological and historic site. The Park lies in a valley that separates the North Atlantic with the Eurasion tectonic plates. The Park is also the site of the world's oldest democratic parliament founded in 930 AD.

At the end of the day we return to Reykjavík to our hotel.

Overnight at Grand Hotel Reykjavík or similar (3 nights)

DAY 5 | Sept. 17, 2018 | Reykjavík - Snæfellsnes Peninsula (B, L)
