The invite was extended as part of the European Commis- sion-funded ‘Improving Football Governance’ project that the City fans’ trust have been leading in Ireland since 2010. FORAS hosted a similar conference in Cork last November. “I am delighted to be able to attend the FASFE event in Madrid later this month. Ireland, like the rest of our European partners in this project, has many different issues which sup- porters can help to try and im- prove and resolve,” said O’Mahony. “The role of supporters in foot- ball has never been more import- ant across the Continent and I am looking forward to hearing a lot more about what is happen- ing in Spain,” she added. The Irish project’s working group, assisted by support- ers-run clubs, trusts and groups across the League of Ireland, is currently piecing together a handbook that aims to assist Irish football supporters at every level of the game. Fallon made more than 250 appearances for Celtic during the 1950s and was assistant manager to Jock Stein throughout the most successful spell in the club’s history. The club announced on their Twitter feed: “Celtic legend Sean Fallon has died peacefully at the age of 90. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.” The Sligo native unfurled the Scottish Premier League flag before the champions began the defence of their title at Celtic Park in August last year. Celtic said Fallon died peacefully this morning surrounded by his family. Fallon, who made his Celtic debut in 1950, was credited with bringing the likes of Tommy Gemmell, Danny McGrain, Kenny Dalglish, Davie Hay, Lou Macari and Pat Bonner to the club. Chance for manager to look into Crystal ball JIMMY BARRY-MURPHY will be keeping as close an eye on some of the opposition players as well as his own when Cork take on UCC in the Waterford Crystal Cup at the Mardyke to- morrow, 12pm. A number of players who are cur- rently in training with Cork will be lin- ing out in the UCC colours, goalkeeper Darren McCarthy, Killian Murphy, Seamus Harnedy, Brian Murray and Bud Hartnett as well as William Egan and Conor Lehane so it will be very much a case of trying to kill two birds with the one stone tomorrow. SOCCER McCarthy, Murphy, Harnedy, Murray and Hartnett have already featured for Cork but to- morrow they’ll be in the opposition corner. UCC will field a strong unit with Waterford’s Brian O’Sullivan also ex- pected to feature. However, star Thurles Sarsfields player, Steph- en Maher is unavailable because of All Ireland club semi-final commit- ments but Castlemartyr brothers, Brian and Barry Lawton could play a part. Midleton’s Paul Haugh- ney is another player who will be hoping to make a strong impres- sion in front of goal. The Cork starting 15 is a decent mix of experi- ence and players that the selectors hope will put down a marker. Eight of the team that featured against Galway in last season’s All Ire- land semi-final are named and there’s a re- turn to the competitive arena for Michael Cussen, who is named at full-forward. Brian Corry gets an- other opportunity to make a statement in the half-forward line as does Stephen Moylan across from him. Back in defence there is a starting slot for young Castlelyons player Colm Spillane at left corner-back while Chris Joyce gets an opportun- ity in the pivotal centre-back position. Stephen White from Ballygarvan can put for- ward his case too at left wing-back while there will be focus too on the midfield pair of Danny Kearney and Patrick Cronin.
