The following is the summary of a teaching given by H.E. Serkong Rinpoche in Dharamsala at

the Inji Gonpa, October1976. The translation comes from Alexander Berzin's notes

(www.berzinarchives.com), edited by the administrator. These are the most basic instructionsfor the mantra recitation. There are more elaborate ones according to the oral tradition which

are covered in some commentaries and teachings accessible only to registered users.

After you have gone through the various offerings that are made to the various people in the

lineage and the praises and all these things, then comes the blessing of the rosary.

When you do the OM A RA PA TSA NA DHI recitation you visualize that mantra [or a number of

mantra lines] going around on a sun disc inside your innermost heart [= the heart of Manjushri].

Through that you receive the blessings of the body speech and mind of Manjushri. When youare finished with the OM AH RA PA TSA NA DHI recitation you want to recite as many DHIs as

you can in one breath. While you are doing this visualize a DHI on your tongue emanating lights

and making various offerings to the Buddhas, and thereby bringing back the enlightened

qualities of the body, speech, and mind of all the Buddhas. When you have finished reciting all

of these DHIs you swallow the DHI that is on your tongue [of your main face as Vajrabhairava]

which then dissolves into the innermost portion of your heart. You should feel as if your wisdom

    has been increased.

Once you have finished doing the OM A RA PA TSA NA DHIs in your innermost heart, you

should visualize a moon disc with the syllable DHI on it and with the OM A RA PA TSA NA DHI

mantra going around it. After you finish the recitation of the Manjushri mantra and the DHIs, the

moon disc changes to a sun disc; now with a HUM standing in the center of it with three rings ofmantras going around: (1) on the outside you have the YAMARAJA... mantra and; (2) within that

[a number of lines of] the OM HRIH SHTRIH mantra; and then (3) within that [a number of lines

of] the OM YAMANTAKA HUM PHAT mantra. When we have finished reciting the

YAMARAJA... mantra it dissolves into the OM HRIH SHTRIH mantra; and when we have

finished doing that, it dissolves into the OM YAMATAKA HUM PHAT mantra.

While doing the recitation of these mantras you visualize that light goes out of your right nostril

thereby (1) making offerings to all the Buddhas, (2) ripening all beings, (3) all beings coming

back, (4) dissolving back into your left nostril, back inside you in the form of Jigje, and thereby

    (5) getting all the blessings. While we are reciting these mantras we visualize that light comes

out of our right nostril making offerings to all the Buddhas and ripening all beings. All beings

come back and dissolve back into through our left nostril back inside us in the form of

Yamantaka, Through that we receive all the blessings.

After that the rosaries of the mantras in the sun disc in your heart have dissolved; on the crown

of your head you have a miniature Akshobya that was formed during the initiation, and within his

heart you have the rosary of the Vajrasattva mantra which you recite three times. While you

recite the Vajrasattva mantra nectar comes flowing down. This is right in front of the red head

[=Rakshasa's head], and the nectars come down and purify you of any mistakes or anything

that you have done improperly in the recitation of the mantras.

    The Mantras are:
