Welcome to Cologne

The 57th Annual Meeting of the Society for Research into Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida will be held in Cologne, Germany, at the kind invitation of

Kliniken der Stadt Köln gGmbH

I wish you a warm welcome to Cologne for the SRHSB 57th Annual Scientific meeting, which will be opened on Thursday morning by Professor Christian Schmid from the Kliniken der Stadt Köln gGmbH. Cologne, which is located on both sides of the Rhine River, is a major cultural centre of the Rhineland. To mark the start of the meeting, you are invited to the Welcome Reception for delegates on Wednesday evening, which takes place at Historical Town Hall at the invitation of Lord Mayor Jürgen Roters. The social programme includes a boat trip on the River Rhine and visits to some cultural and historical buildings, mainly Cologne Cathedral. The main scientific programme, which starts on Thursday morning, offers a broad spectrum of different current issues included in oral papers, special sessions, special lectures and a poster session. Those of you who have arrived on Tuesday will be able to choose from two pre-meetings on Wednesday morning: Experimental Hydrocephalus and Clinical Case reports. Details and start times for both the pre-meetings and the main meeting are in the programme. During the meeting, the Executive Committee and the Chairs of the sessions will decide on the prize-winners in the following categories: best oral presentation [scientific and clinical], best poster [scientific and clinical] and a President’s Prize. Prize-winners will be informed after the meeting. I am pleased to announce that Dr Montserrat Guerra from Chile has won the Casey Holter Essay Prize 2013, and this will be presented at the Annual Dinner of the Society on Friday. A global and multidisciplinary view of children and adults with spina bifida and hydrocephalus is necessary and highly important. The Local Organising Committee has worked hard to ensure that the meeting will be the best possible place to exchange experiences, to start scientific collaboration or simply to discuss clinical problems with colleagues I hope that you enjoy both the scientific and the social parts of the meeting. We welcome you whether or not you are a member, but if you are new to the Society we hope that you will consider joining us. Margareta Dahl President, SRHSB
