No.16. 29th May 2017
Dear Parents,
Many of you may have read the School Principal Update in the parish newsletter across the
weekend: “It has been decided that Angela Glennie will continue in the role of Acting
Principal for the remainder of 2017.” On a personal note I am very happy to continue in the
position and I’m grateful for the amazing support I receive from parents, students and staff
every day. This week we say “Bon voyage” to Mrs Veronica Fraraccio as she heads on an
overseas adventure. We wish her safe travels and look forward to many wonderful stories
upon her return. Mr Bekkers (5/6B), continues to improve after recent surgery and is
thankful for the prayers and well wishes that are being sent his way. Today we also
welcome Mitchell to our school community who joins us in 3/4 F and we are all looking
forward to getting to know Mitchell and his family.
Congratulations to the year 3-6 students who competed in the interschool cross
country event at Lilydale Lake last Friday. Our students performed brilliantly in
near perfect weather conditions. We are super excited to report that eleven
students have qualified for the next round! A huge thank you to Mrs Mc Cormack
for all of her work both training the students and helping to run the whole day,
thanks to our staff who attended the day, once again commenting on the stellar
behaviour and sportsmanship of our St Mary’s students. Please find a student
written report, (further in this newsletter), outlining the day. This week the year
3/4 level are looking forward to an incursion from “Russell the Baker” it sounds
intriguing; I’m sure the children will have much to report! Our year six student
leaders who form the St Mary’s Student Action Team are also looking forward to
the Mt Evelyn Combined Schools Youth Forum. The Youth Forum is now in its
third year and is always an excellent opportunity for our student leaders to meet
with other student leaders from surrounding schools, spending time identifying
ways to build resilience and positive relationships in our schools. Past major
projects which have been initiated as a result of the forum include the Bully
Stoppers Travelling Boat and the St Mary’s Term Four Student Lead Transition
Program. We look forward to seeing what are students come up with for 2017! Congratulations to our Students of the Week last week: Prep B: Emmett S Prep R: Hailey D 1/2F: Kaylee S 1/2H: Patrick R 1/2P: Bae B 1/2R: Cooper G

ALL WELCOME!
We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies.
As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may
contain peanuts to school, as the smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an
allergic child. Whilst I can appreciate that there may be children who just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child with the allergy, you would also appreciate people helping out in
this way

ST MARY’S CAR PARK RULES
For the safety of all our children we ask that driver courtesy,
patience and the utmost care is practised at all times.
No standing in the driveway or
roundabout areas unless
‘ALL’ parking spaces are taken.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN OUT
OF YOUR CAR ON THE INSIDE
(drivers side)
LANE OF THE ROUNDABOUT
We need access for emergency and delivery vehicles and buses. Blocking the driveway also means that others are unable to access available parking spaces and causes a
dangerous back up of traffic in Clegg Road.
Pick up and drop off on the roundabout only at the designated
place. Please ensure that your child can do up their own seat belt if
you are using this area, as this will ensure an uninterrupted flow.
If we all cooperate the car park does work. We find that generally, the car park is virtually cleared by 3.30pm. So it may be beneficial to come a
little later, rather than earlier.
The speed limit at St Mary’s is 5km
at all times in the Car Park

Child Safety Code of Conduct
St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.
What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.
It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers
attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.
CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCTS CAN BE COMPLETED AT THE OFFICE
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
All Parents and Friends visiting St Marys must have a ‘Working With Children Check’. These are available FREE to volunteers on line.
