PROJECT DATA & REFERENCES 583 Constitution Center Plaza East Café Washington, DC Synopsis: This former Department of Transportation building, covering an entire city block at 7th & D Streets, SE, was totally transformed by its Owners, David Nassif Associates, into an award winning, class AA green office building. A significant part of the amenity spaces to serve the high-end legal and financial lessees is the Plaza Café. W&A programmed the Café space and, with the design team, settled on having the Servery and dining on the Plaza level and the support services in a former garage space, below. This arrangement allowed the public spaces to comfortably assume the prominent role and support to still be quite accessible. Having the kitchen on a lower level also allowed easy access to support considerable catering services for the massive auditorium and conference facilities, as well as to the four banks of elevators leading to the lessees’ meeting spaces. This catering accessibility is through the garage level, not disrupting the public image. Serving the population of this 1.4 M sf building, the 5,283 sf servery and 6,230 sf, 420 seat dining room assume much of the east first floor. Storage & production facilities take 5,827 sf on the lower level. The equipment package was installed for $1,256,000. Scope of Responsibility: Programming, preliminary and conceptual plans; cost estimating; CAD Design Development and Construction Documents including dimensioned rough-ins, architectural special conditions; proprietary specifications; and installation coordination. Operations RFP consultation & selection counsel. Reference: Jeffrey J.
