2 May 27, 2018 The Most Holy Trinity

FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parish Family & Friends,

Monday is Memorial Day. Let us spend time, either at our 9:00 am Mass, or in quiet time in our homes, to re-member the brave women and men who have given their lives protecting us, and protecting our free-doms. We are a grateful nation to their sacrifice.

This coming Saturday, June 2nd will be the priestly ordi-nation of Rev. Mr. Jeff Dufresne to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. There will be plenty of room at the Cathe-

dral if you would like to attend the Mass—know you are welcome, especially if you know Deacon Jeff.

I will be on my annual retreat this coming week. I will be keeping you all in my prayers. If you get the chance, please pray just a little prayer for me—I will be grateful for your kindness.

Peace and all good,

Fr. Steve Giannini

NEW PARISHIONERS

Putting Our Faith into Action

Tanzanian fathers help raise

babies.

In Tanzania, parenting is traditionally left to mothers. They stay home with their children while the fathers go to work. After the work day is over, fathers’ engagement with their children—let alone participation in parenting chores—is limited. For a man in Tanzania, feeding a child, taking it to the clinic, washing dishes and cleaning has been considered inappropriate. Slowly these norms are changing and the THRIVE II project, in which CRS participates, promotes this evolution. THRIVE focuses on the first 1,000 days of a baby’s life, to provide children with the foundation for healthy development and learning. The engagement of fathers and mothers is important during this crucial window. Study after study empirically demonstrates that dads play an extremely important role in a child’s well-being and success. And, by engaging with their children, fathers also help mothers to get much-deserved rest. The THRIVE II project also teaches fathers to begin bonding with their babies when they’re still in

the womb. Visit crs.org.

GOLF OUTING

Come Join Us!

This year’s Festival will be Fri.& Sat.,

September 28 & 29.

Now let’s get down to business! As most of you realize, our Festival doesn’t run itself. There is A LOT of prior preparation

and planning that has to be done before we can have a successful event. After all...it is not every parish who can raise almost $100,000 in two days! Not to brag, but we’re SPECIAL and we have the BEST LITTLE FESTIVAL THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI! Why the pep-talk? We are currently missing a few key people on our Festival Committee. We have MANY talented people in our parish who could be able to fill our empty spots, but we need YOU to step up and join us! What do we currently need? On the main Festival Committee, we have a critical need for someone for:

· Advertising and Promotions ² Responsible for yard signs, corner Black

signs, press releases and ads for local parish bulletins.

We need Booth Chairpersons for:

· Food Tent

· Teen Games

· Festival Photographer We need Assistant Chairpersons for:

· Silent Auction

· Children’s Tent

· Purchasing

· Cake Wheel These positions really need to be filled NOW so our Festival planning can continue to move forward smoothly. Remember, you can grab a friend or two to co-chair with you if you don’t want to do it yourself! You can share the glory! Let’s not forget to THANK everyone in advance for volunteering to work at all the different booths and positions for our 2018 Fall Festival. YOU ARE THE ONES WHO REALLY MAKE OUR FESTIVAL A SUCCESS!

Want more information, contact Roger Languell, [email protected].

Have you looked at the Answered Prayers board? Throughout May, there will be a Prayer Board along with Post It notes in the Narthex to share your answered prayers.

Put YOUR ANSWERED PRAYER on the Prayer Board in the Narthex this weekend and be inspired with those that

have already been posted.

Do you like the way the Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi’s many flowerbeds look? Well...maybe not right NOW, but during late Spring, Summer, and Fall?

These are maintained by volunteers. The Parish has a lawn service that does the mowing and trimming, but the rest of it is completed by parish individuals and families. We are look-ing for volunteers to assist in main-taining flower gardens around the church and school. We need individ-uals, families, or groups/clubs to “adopt” one of these areas and help weed and maintain it.

We are also looking for donations of plants to popu-late our large campus. If you have a little time to spend and love the outdoors, we need YOU! Please call Marylyn Blackwell, (317) 496-3600, for more information.

SSFC YOUTH MINISTRY

It takes a parish…

to bring teens to know Christ and empower them to become intentional disciples!

We want to thank Michael Shirley, Jeffrey Amodeo and Adam Nover for leading our Youth Ensemble this year! If you are interested in taking a lead in our Youth Ensemble for next year, please contact Monica!

Do you have a good marriage? Do you want to make it even better? Why not attend a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend and find out how you can make this happen? Future Marriage Encounter Weekends in 2018 will be at Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House, Indianapolis, October 19-21 October, and at Mount Saint Francis Centre for Spirituality, New Albany, August 17-19. Visit www.wwme.org for further information.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES...

80% of students stop practicing their faith at some point during college. 10% of college students make contact with Campus Ministries during their college careers. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis Youth Ministry Office is wanting to change these statistics. They have partnered with The Newman Connection, to develop a High School Outreach Program. Saints Francis and Clare wants to fully support these efforts for the youth of our parish. In an effort to do this, we need graduating high school seniors (or their parents) to submit the name of the student and the name and city of the college they plan to attend. The Newman Connec-tion ( a non profit organization working with our campus ministries nationwide) will use a referral system to connect our youth to their Catholic campus ministry. This allows campus ministers to contact their incoming students and extend invitations before a student arrives to campus! In addition to this, Saints Francis and Clare would like to partner our high school graduates with someone from our parish family who would stay in contact with them to provide support and prayers through the years ahead. Please go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044eafa82cabf58-college and share your plans for after High School with us so we can help you stay connected!!

‘In Via’ High School group meets Sunday Nights with it’s

snacks, discussion and prayer. Bring your friends!

Middle School Play and Pray will begin its summer hours (7-9pm)

MOCK DC — After our 8th graders arrived back from

their Washington, D.C. trip, they gave presentations on the buildings, monuments, and properties that they visited. The students worked very hard on their projects, which were built close to 1/100 scale of the original and set up in the parish parking lot.

Mock D.C. Presentations

8th Grade Trip to Washington, D.C. Every year, our 8th grade class goes to Washington, D.C..

8th graders and their families have been raising money for this event all year! While on this very exciting trip, they visited Gettysburg, toured the Capital and the Basilica, all the major monuments and War Memorials, and several other historical places.
