Building the FutureThank you for joining us here tonight to help impact job creation, encourage economic de-velopment, support tomorrow’s leaders, and improve the future of our City.
The Miami Bayside Foundation seeks to ad-vance Miami’s growth by supporting minor-ity businesses and education. In the last six years, the Foundation has awarded 52 loans totaling more than $2,165,000 to City of Miami minority-owned businesses creating more than 300 jobs. The Foundation knows that by fulfi lling its mission of supporting minority entrepreneurship, the City of Miami will grow.
Along with our loan program, our educational initiatives are essential to our mission. In the last six years, we have provided 649 scholar-ships to City of Miami students. We have en-dowments at Miami-Dade College, Florida International University, and Florida Memo-rial University. We have made two multi-year gifts to organizations working with City of Miami Public High School students, Break-through Miami and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. In 2014, MBF launched a scholarship program at every public senior high school in the City of Miami. For the last three years, we have made gifts to the Golden Scholars Bridge Program at FIU and the Little Haiti Optimist Club. Last year, we launched our scholarship program for City of Miami students at Miami-Dade Technical Colleges and created our fi rst co-named scholarship in partnership with Baptist Health South Florida. We received a grant from Commissioner Willy Gort to fund a scholarship program for resi-
dents in his district. This year, working with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the City of Miami (Commissioner Carollo) and the marine industry, we helped create the Marine Service Technology Academy at Lind-sey Hopkins Technical College. The pilot class of 20 students matriculated in Au-gust. We also made a grant to the St. Al-ban’s Child Enrichment Center in Coconut Grove and to the Education Fund this year.
To help advance businesses in the City of Miami, we have partnered with SCORE Miami, the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund and the Small Business Development Cen-ter at FIU with whom we have provided more than 125 business owners with technical as-sistance, mentorship and training. We are running a small business training program that has just fi nished its fourth series of ten sessions and graduated 20 business owners.
None of this would have been possible with-out the support of our Board members who work tirelessly to fulfi ll MBF’s mission, and our generous donors. I am especially grate-ful to Bayside Marketplace and Ashkenazy Acquisition whose support is instrumental in MBF´s growth.

Welcome to We Are Miami 2016!
In 2011, the Miami Bayside Foundation (MBF) created a loan program to provide loans of $10,000 to $50,000 to City of Miami minority-owned businesses.
In 2013, seeing the need for smaller loans with a simpler underwriting process, MBF launched a microloan program with loans from $2,500 to $10,000. In 2014, MBF partnered with Enterprise Florida, Inc. (EFI) and through their State Small Business Initiative Loan Participation Program, MBF has been able to provide loans of up to $100,000. During 2016 this partnership moved to the State of Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity.
In September of 2016, MBF launched the Zika Emergency Assistance Loan (ZEAL) Program. This program was created to ensure job retention in minority and female-owned businesses adversely affected by the Zika Virus. These loans are from $2,500 to $20,000 and the funds are to cover payroll. Loan applications for all loan programs can be downloaded at miamibaysidefoundation.org.
MBF has provided loans to the following City of Miami businesses:
Panther Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster, retailer and wholesaler specializing in the small-batch roasting of coffee beans and the preparation of coffee beverages. They have coffee-houses in Wynwood, Miami Beach, and Coconut Grove with two new ones opening in the next three months in Little Haiti and MIMO. From 2011 to 2015, MBF awarded three loans to Panther Coffee. In 2016. MBF awarded a loan to Panther Coffee Roasters which handles the wholesale and training.
Sound Theory Live The Stage, was located in the famed Design District, a hub for live music, art, and film. The venue showcased great music nightly, all adding to the City of Miami’s ever-growing cultural scene.
IMR Development Corp. is a Miami based contract service and supplies company. Some of their clients are the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee.

LOANS
Nice Transportation Service, Inc. provides veterans with non-emergency transportation throughout the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and most of the State of Florida.
Viking Defense Inc. is a Miami based security company founded in 2008. It provides security officers, security consultations and audits to commercial buildings, retail businesses, warehouses, and special event venues. MBF awarded two loans to Viking Defense Inc. to help their business grow through the acquistion of larger contracts.
Bermejo & Associates LLC Med Aesthetics Miami was founded in 2012 with the mission to promote a positive self-image and healthy living. The company offers aesthetic and anti-aging services to South Florida.
DTC International Holdings Inc. H.I.M.-istry was incorporated in 2011 and distributes men’s grooming products that are tar geted towards multi-cultural men.
Juntos Traditionally Inc. redesigns and handcrafts traditional and common products from unique cultures into luxury goods with modern appeal. With each product sold, an Education Pack containing school supplies and resources is given to a child in need.
S&S 5 Star Foods Magic City Chefs is a family owned pastry shop operating in south Miami. They provide services ranging from a simple dessert to a lavish function requiring full service catering. Their talented Chefs create a fusion of European and Latin patisserie. In 2016, they opened Mundo Café in the Miami Green building.
Little Executives Daycare LLC provides innovative, high quality, nurturing and educational daycare personalized for children aged two to five years old in the Brickell/Downtown area of Miami.
Very Tasty LLC is a manufacturer and distributor of Hispanic frozen food available
in many supermarkets in the Miami area. They provide delicious empanadas, pan de bono, and arepas that bring smiles to those who have tasted them.
Creative Nails by Tommy Inc. has created its own exclusive nail polishing process that has a strong following. They opened in 2001 and are located in Calle Ocho and 34th Avenue.
CamiAxle Construction Corp. is a family owned and operated general contracting and construction management company created in 2007. With extensive experience in the construction industry and as a performance driven certified general contractor, they are able to execute and manage small and large commercial and residential construction projects.
Bunnie Cakes LLC was founded in 2009 and is a manufacturer of vegan, gluten-free, kosher baked goods. They bake cupcakes, cakes, and brownies and serve lunches at their shop in Wynwood. They recently opened a party facility adjacent to their current facility. MBF has awarded three loans to Bunnie Cakes.
Miami Smokers LLC is a boutique meat curing and smoking establishment dedicated to providing quality best-in-class pork to local consumers and retailers alike. In 2015 they opened their smokehouse and deli on 27th Avenue and NW 3rd Street and in 2016 they opened a pop-up store on Brickell and two locations at the AmericanAirlines Arena.
Churros + LLC Sugar Yummy Mama was one of the pioneers in the food truck movement in Miami providing a unique gourmet sweet alternative for the Miami metro area. They were voted best bakery 2015 by Miami New Times.
Spinex Medical Inc. is a distributor of spine implants used in complex spine sur gery. The company was formed in November 2012.
Get Credit Healthy Inc. was founded in 2007 with the mission to help consumers restore their credit and rebuild their dreams. By assisting consumers to become qualified borrowers, the company created $40 million in loan opportunities for one of their partner banks in 2014.
Haynes Security Services, Inc. is a security company that provides security guards, security audits, and electronic surveillance to commercial buildings, retail businesses, government and city facilities and other clients in Miami since 2011.
Moonlighter, Corp. is a cutting-edge makerspace that opened its doors in Wynwood in August of last year. Moonlighter provides individuals of all ages, professions, and level of technical experience a space to design, prototype, and create innovations using 3D modeling and printing technologies.
Beefree Media LLC is a design firm with a specific focus on local business. Through their digital marketing, printing and creative services, they aim to assist clients with market discovery, audience targeting, strategic evolution, creative and development, and data analytics.
IMR Contracting Corp. Jennings Engineering & Construction is a full service and repair company specializing in the rehabilitation of antiquated sanitary sewer systems. Since the company was established in 2011, it has
secured several minority contracts throughout Miami-Dade.
Medical Equipment Solutions is an eighteen-year-old business that provides medical equipment and supplies. Their main products are power and manual wheelchair rentals, oxygen tanks, and hospital beds.
Barks and Tales Dog Spa Inc. provides pet grooming, boarding, and daycare services to Miami’s furry friends. Established in 2009, Barks and Tales Dog Spa is located in Wynwood on 2037 NW 1st Place.
Noa Catering Inc. is a catering company and cafe that offers customized menus that tap into the highest quality seasonal ingredients and specializes in incorporating Mediterranean, Asian, European and American cuisines.
Sound of Fun LLC distributes Kiddi Moto, a balance bike for young children ages 2-5 years. The bike is a new way of training young children to use a two wheeler while promoting balance and exercise. They also sell two system high end helmets.
Lunchology LLC is a meal delivery service that works on a contract basis with businesses and individuals. They have four distinct menus: a Meat Lovers menu, a Veggie Lovers menu, a Lu Kids menu, and a catering menu. All their offerings are organic, non-gmo, eco-friendly, made fresh and delivered daily.
MICROLOANS AutoPortation LLC is a premier auto transportation brokerage company that delivers vehicles safely and efficiently across the country. They fully inspect and insure all vehicles, as well as provide 24/7 support, daily status updates and friendly customer service. Lorimia Food Corp., founded in 2012, is a wholesale bakery business situated in the Little Haiti area of the City of Miami. Latitude Trading Corp. Maslov Beads situated in the heart of downtown Miami was established in 2005. They provide beads and notions for the jewelry trade and fash ion their own jewelry. FAMA Publishing Inc. is a media company that has served as a cultural voice for the Latino community in the U.S. since 1992. The company produces Descubriendo Historias, a 13 episode cultural show airing since 2013, a Hispanic magazine, FAMA Magazine, and website, Famaweb.com.
Two Coats Painting LLC is a painting contracting service that offers residential painting, commercial painting, and even concrete flooring services. With 25 years of experience, the owner and founder, James Coleman delivers dependable service and competitive pricing to his customers. R&A Shoeshine, Inc. is a shoeshine company with three locations in the City of Miami. After having been in the shoeshine business for over 30 years, Robert Abraham, owner and founder of R&A, recently opened his third location in the Stephen P. Clark Government Center. Super Kids Christian Day Care Center, Inc. in Little Haiti is run by Marie Aurubin and co-owned with her husband, Bengy Aurubin for the last 23 years. They are in the process of doubling their capacity from 37 to 77 students of 3 months to 5 years.
PROGRAM PARTNERSSCORE Miami-DadeThe Miami-Dade Chapter of SCORE is dedicated to helping small businesses grow and prosper. SCORE has programs for owners of existing businesses seeking expert advice as well as for entrepreneurs starting a new business. With close to 100 counselors, SCORE’s resources are focused on all aspects of business development and operations. MBF first partnered with SCORE in January 2011 to provide technical assistance, counseling, and workshops to their minority business clients. Since then we have together assisted more than 139 small-business owners. HBIF (Hispanic Business Initiative Fund of Florida, Inc.)HBIF is the leading Hispanic economic development nonprofit organization in Florida. It specializes in providing bilingual assistance to Hispanic entrepreneurs trying to establish or expand their business in Florida. In 2014 MBF initiated a partnership with HBIF to offer entrepreneurs in the City of Miami business seminars, workshops, business consulting, as well as entrepreneurial grants. In 2016, MBF and HBIF continued to work together to assist Hispanic-owned businesses in the City of Miami. SBDC at FIU (Small Business Development Center at Florida International University)SBDC at FIU brings to local companies a team of highly knowledgeable business consultants that offer free mentoring to entrepreneurs and business owners looking to grow. In 2014, MBF initiated a partnership with SBDC at FIU to provide their minority business clients access to expert advice in order to launch, grow, and renew their businesses.
WORKSHOPSLaunched its first series of workshops, a 10-session Small Business Entrepreneurial Training for minority-owned City of Miami businesses. The workshops cover: compliance, intellectual property, access to capital, credit, banking, IT requirements, human resources, leases, marketing, finances, budgets, putting together an executive summary to present to a panel of funders. The workshops are facilitated my Marjory Weber and taught by specialists in these subjects. Since 2015, MBF has held a total of four series of workshops providing more than 80 small business owners with essential tools and skills to grow their companies.
The Miami Bayside Foundation Scholarship Endowment at Miami Dade College was created in 1999 and has awarded 382 scholarships to date. In 2011, MBF established the Miami Bayside Foundation Scholarship Endowment General Scholarship Fund and contributed to the First Generation Scholarship Fund at Florida International University. In 2012, MBF created the Miami Bayside Foundation Scholarship Endowment at Florida Memorial University. In 2013, MBF established the Miami Bayside Foundation MBA Scholarship Endowment at Florida International University College of Business, the first of its kind. MBF has awarded 747 scholarships to City of Miami minority students to date. In 2012, MBF made a five-year gift to Break through Miami, an award-winning organization that provides a tuition-free, eight-year academic enrichment program to motivated students from disadvantaged communities in the 5th through 12th grades. In 2013, a five-year gift was made to Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), an internationally recognized organization that provides programs that inspire students from low-income communities to stay in school, recognize business opportunities, and plan successful futures. This gift is impacting 500
students at Booker T. Washington Senior High School over those five years. In 2014, MBF created a scholarship program for seniors graduating from every Miami-Dade County Public High School in the City of Miami and going to college. To date, MBF has awarded more than 75 scholarships under this program. It made a gift to the Golden Scholars Bridge Program at Florida International University to transition students into college life and help ensure that they graduate through continued mentoring and monitoring. It also made a gift to Little Haiti Optimists Club for their after-school program.
In 2015, MBF established a scholarship program at Miami-Dade Technical Colleges. Since the program launched, MBF has awarded 88 scholarships to City of Miami students at D.A. Dorsey, Lindsey Hopkins, and George T. Baker Technical Colleges. Twenty of these scholarships were awarded under MBF’s first ever co-named scholarship with Baptist Health South Florida. That same year, MBF provided a second annual gift to the Golden Scholars Bridge Program at FIU and a gift to Little Haiti Optimist Club’s summer program which serves children in the Little Haiti area that are five through fourteen years of age.
EDUCATION
During 2015 and 2016, MBF helped create Miami’s only Marine Service Technology Academy. The program was launched at Lindsey Hopkins Technical College and is designed to help students develop necessary skills and competencies to pursue a career in boat/yacht repair within the marine industry. The pilot class will have 20 students that will graduate in October 2017. A second class is planned to start in the Spring or Summer of 2017. In 2016, MBF launched a scholarship program in collaboration with City of Miami Commissioner Wilfredo “Willy” Gort to provide funds for residents in District 1 to pursue technical education programs with high job placement rates at Miami Dade College, Lindsey Hopkins Technical College and George T. Baker Aviation Technical College. MBF’s Commissioner Willy Gort Scholarship Program awarded 25 scholarships in 2016. In 2016, MBF gave a third annual gift to the Golden Scholars Bridge Program at Florida International University. This year sees the graduation of two of the original class of MBF Golden Scholars. MBF also granted the Education Fund $10,000 for their SmartPath to College Programs at Booker T. Washington and Jackson Senior High Schools.
In March of 2016, MBF gifted funds for 7 iStartSmart terminals to strengthen St. Alban’s Child Enrichment Center in Coconut Grove to provide personalized educational programs for children from predominately minority, single parent and low-income households.
