President’s Message 2016
It is with great pleasure that I welcome competitors, their parents, teachers and supporters to the 2016 Tauranga Festival of Performing Arts. The competition movement is alive and well in New Zealand. Competition is a platform for performance; it enables young people to measure themselves against their peers, and to take critique from expert adjudicators, confirming and reinforcing the opinions of their usual tutors. It also gives a purpose to those many hours of practice which have gone on prior. Tauranga Performing Arts Competitions Society is a committee of people and volunteers who freely dedicate their time and expertise to the management of the Tauranga Festival of Performing Arts. We would like to welcome others who feel they have a capacity for volunteer work, and who would like to give back a little to the competitions movement, and to their chosen art. To the competitors, I hope that you take away with you fond memories and positive experiences from your participation in the 2016 Tauranga Festival of Performing Arts Cathy Gifford President Tauranga Performing arts Competitions Society would like to acknowledge our major sponsors:
Tauranga City Council
Lion Foundation
Legacy Trust
Richard Carey
Pub Charity
Southern Trust
Creative Communities Tauranga
Federation of Lyceum Clubs
Acorn Foundation

MODERN DANCE SECTION Baycourt Addison Theatre
Commencing 9.00am Tuesday 12 July 2016 CONVENOR: Cathy Gifford Ph: 07 578 3214 e: [email protected] ADJUDICATOR: Angela Westerby, Waiarapa
Ange discovered her passion for dance growing up in New Zealand, where she was fortunate to have some
inspirational teachers who helped guide her passion in the right direction. She has trained in and
completed exams in Ballet (RAD) Tap (BBO and NZAMD) and Jazz (NZAMD and AJDA). She gained a lot of
experience dancing in competitions, performing in troupes and musical theatre shows. At the age of 19
Ange followed her passion, moved over to Melbourne and completed a full time year of Performing Arts
at Bartuccios Dance and Performing Arts Centre.
Ange had also been in high demand as a teacher, choreographer and adjudicator throughout Australia
and New Zealand and enjoys being able to teach at workshops and seminars. She has spent numerous
years working with the Wellington Performing Arts Centre, teaching the fulltime Commercial Dance and
Musical Theatre students who are training towards a professional career. Most recently Ange has taught
on the Cecchetti Summer School in Melbourne (2011, 2013), Wellington International Summer School
(NZ)(2009, 2013) and the Tauranga Performing Arts Workshop April 2013.
Since moving back to Australia in 2007 Ange has been teaching at the Sandra Clack Ballet Centre in
Geelong, choreographed Catwalk Theatre for the L’Oreal Fashion Festival as well as performances for the
Kids foundation charity ball, Wakkakerri , My Room Charity ball and The Royal Melbourne Show. In 2009
Ange took on the role of Dance School Manager at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance in Melbourne and
loved working to inspire so many young dancers.
Ange has now moved back home to New Zealand and is really excited to be teaching and working with
the new generation of dancers and performers.
PLEASE NOTE
Trophies will be presented at the conclusion of each session.
