During this period, a comprehensive training schedule was carried out dailY. root and helicopter patrols-were conducted over the Kansas-Line, There was continuous work, on the part of all units of the battalion, to 1mprove the area. A series of air raid drills were held during this period due to the increasing threat of Red air power. One hundred raplaoementa fr-om the 15th Replacement Draft Jo1ned the battalion on 6 December. Major K. w. Norton returned to duty e"nd ree"asumed oommand of the battalion. Major Lowell T, Keagy assumed duties as Battalion Executive Officer, and MaJor Robert L. Autry became the Battalion S-3.

On 19 December, "A 11 Company relieved "F" Company on the right flank of L1ne Minnesota and oame under the operational control of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines. This relief was eff'er.t.en bv helir.nnt.er. On 20 neoember. the rem~t1nder nf the bAt-talion -r~1i eveei- th.e- 2nd-sa -t-taiion; 5th. loiarine6- on -i.ine- Minneao.:. ta. This relief was effected by helicopter except for a few units which occupied a rear battalion OP. The let Battalion assumed responsibility for the zone of action by 13001, at which time 11 A11 Company reve1:•ted to parent control. Each front line company had its individual galley which permitted all personnel to get at leaet l hot meal per day, There was v1geroue patrol action on the part of all units. The patrols conducted were in the form of sniper patrols. ~urve1llanoe patrols. combat patrols, and night ambush patrols. ~here were several casualties, both enemy and friendly, for the fi·rst few days as a result of patrol action and enemy probing attacks. However, the latter part of the month found friendly casualties negligible, A delicious turkey dinner was served to every man in the battalion on Christmas Day. This day also brought with it, the beginning of en 18 1nch snowfall whioh curtailed the activities of our patrols for a brief period of time. The month was climaxed on 30 December by the emploYment of a reinforced olatoon sized combat patrol-with a mission to destroy all enemy resistance in the Sach 1 on-n1 area, from which vicinity, the enemy had ambushed several of our routine patrols.
